Tag/Day 8 auf der/on VENTURA in Southampton, England

Die Rechnung ist da. Sehr diskret im Umschlag.



The invoice arrived. Very discreet in an envelop.

We got a lot of onboard credit: on the one hand from P&O when we booked in the UK and on the other hand Bruno as Carnival-shareholder.



Wir haben sehr viel Bordguthaben: einerseits durch P&O bei der Buchung in Großbritannien und andererseits Bruno als Carnival-Aktionär.

Insgesamt empfinde ich das ganze als sehr günstig an Bord: 3 x Zuzahlrestaurants und Getränke überwiegend.



In total it appeared to me very cheap on board: 3 x alternative dining and mostly beverages.

Tyson had a new partner. So we could not say goodbye from Joe. Tyson saved the soups for me and warmed them up. At the service station, he was stirring them before serving to ensure that were evenly warm.



Tyson hat einen neuen Partner. Leider kann ich mich daher von Joe nicht verabschieden. Tyson hat meine Suppen aufgehoben und aufgewärmt. An der Servicestation rührt er sie noch vor dem Servieren durch, um sicherzustellen, dass es gleichmäßig warm ist.

Und am Schluss noch ein paar weichgekochte Eier.

Southampton, England presented itself in a very sunny but icy and windy way.



Southampton zeigt sich von der sonnigen, aber leider auch sehr kalt und windigen Seite.

Als wir unter den Betten kontrollieren, ob wir etwas vergessen haben, haben wir Rochelles Abschiedsgeschenk für uns gefunden: eine große schwarze Kiste... fix und fertig gepackt... Das ist ja so lieb...



When we checked under the beds if we might lose something, we found Rochelle's farewell-gift for us: a big black box... readily packed... that was so cute...

I needed to have also a shot of Sigi and Bruno in front of the Lake District.



Auch Sigi und Bruno muss ich nochmals am Lake District festhalten.

Als wir ins Theater kommen, wird unsere Nummer bereits aufgerufen. Aber das ganze hier läuft noch militärischer ab, als auf der ARTANIA 2014 (zuvor ARTEMIS 2010!!!). Da die erste Reihe bereits losmarschiert ist, dürfen wir als Neuankömmlingen uns nicht in die 1. Reihe setzen, obwohl wir bereits aufgerufen sind.



When we arrived in the theater, our number was already paged. It was managed more military style I experienced it on ARTANIA 2014 (former ARTEMIS 2010!!!). When the first row left the theater, we were not allowed to sit in the 1st row although our number was already paged.

In the baggage hall, they had sufficient baggage trolleys.



In der Gepäckhalle stehen genügend Gepäckwagen.

Wir schätzen ja solche Dienste, wie zuletzt auf der NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2018 in Barcelona oder auf der GRAND PRINCESS 2018 in San Francisco: Dienste, die das Gepäck handhaben: The Baggage Handling Company. Diese Werbung sehe ich zum ersten Mal im Terminal.



We appreciate such service we knew from our last cruise on NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2018 in Barcelona, Spain or from GRAND PRINCESS 2018 in San Francisco, CA: facilities who handled baggage: The Baggage Handling Company. I saw this advertising the first time in the terminal.

They were just opposite on the parking lot.



Sie sind gegenüber auf dem Parkplatz.

Die Prüfung auf der Homepage ergibt: nur Tür zu Tür-Gepäckservice innerhalb Großbritanniens. Kein Ausland - keine Flughäfen. So wie zuletzt zur QUEEN MARY 2 2018 mit tefra in Deutschland direkt von zu Hause auf die Kabine ist möglich. Aber nicht umgekehrt. Man muss sein Gepäck selbst von Bord bringen und übergibt es dann einem Repräsentanten.



Checking on their website showed that they only offered a door-to-door-service within Great Britain. No foreign country - no airport service. Like we had recently on QUEEN MARY 2 2018 with tefra in Germany it was possible to have door-to-cabin service. But not vice versa. You needed to get off the baggage yourself and handed it later over to a representative.

According to the instruction I already informed Penguin Parking when we supposed to leave the ship. They allocated a bus number to us.



Gemäß Anweisung habe ich bereits Penguin Parking informiert, wann wir rauskommen. Wir bekommen eine Busnummer mitgeteilt.

Als wir aus dem Terminal rauskommen, sehen wir hinten schon den Bus warten.



When we left the terminal, we could see the bus was waiting.

It went extremely fast: we were a total of five guests, who were allocated to this bus and we started immediately.



Es geht extrem schnell: wir sind insgesamt fünf Gäste, die diesem Bus eingeteilt sind und sofort geht es los.

Nach wenigen Minuten sind wir zurück am Auto.



After a few minutes, we were back at the car.

Good to know: when it was cold like now, you could also wait inside, and they had nice toilets before you were leaving.



Gut zu wissen: bei der Kälte kann man auch drinnen warten und schöne Toiletten, bevor man losfährt.

Im Fährterminal von Red Funnel gibt es frische Beeren.



In the ferry terminal of Red Funnel they also had fresh berries.

Blueberry-Muffins were an excellent alternative to fresh blueberries and were probably taken as well.



Heidelbeer-Muffins sind Alternativen zu frischen Heidelbeeren und werden auch ggfls. genommen.

Ich bin ja mehr für salzig und nehme stattdessen Erdnüsse.



I preferred more salty and took some peanuts.

We had luck: one week ago we got the tip to book the ferry by the internet. It would be the cheapest we could get. You were allowed to try to get on an earlier connection on stand-by. And we made it joining RED OSPREY. Onboard they had a special lounge against a fee and a lounge for dog-owners incl. complimentary goodies for the dogs.



Wir haben Glück: vor einer Woche bekamen wir ja den Tipp die Fähre im Internet zu buchen. Das wäre am preiswertesten. Auf Standby-Basis darf man versuchen auf einer früheren Fähre mitzukommen. Und es klappt mit der RED OSPREY mitzukommen. An Bord gibt es eine besondere Lounge gegen Zuzahlung und eine Lounge für Hundebesitzer inkl. kostenloser Leckerlis für die Hunde.

Ganz schön sonnig aber kalt bei der Ausfahrt in Southampton.



It was lovely sunny but chilly when we set sail in Southampton.

The ferry terminal was just next to the Town Pier.



Das Fährterminal ist direkt nebenan vom Town Pier.

Here you could see the distance between the City Cruise Terminal and the hotels Holiday Inn or The Grand Harbour Hotel. Both in walkable distance.



Hier sieht man die Entfernung zwischen City Cruise Terminal und den Hotels Holiday Inn bzw. The Grand Harbour Hotel. Sehr gut zu Fuß erreichbar.

Und hier sieht man links Marchwood. Hier hat unser Auto geparkt und eben rechts City Cruise Terminal.

Die Fahrt nach Isle of Wight ist sehr schön.



The passage to Isle of Wight was very lovely.

Only one more parking available and next you had a dumbass.



Nur noch ein Parkplatz und daneben parkt ein Vollidiot.

Und in der anderen Richtung Halbidioten.



And towards the other direction you had half idiots.

We were in the Osborne House. It was a residence of Queen Victoria. A location, managed by English Heritage. But it was not worth to buy an Overseas Visitors Pass since this was the only location we saw. Another site with the same level of admission fee: it would be worth to buy.



Wir sind im Osborne House. Eine Residenz der Königin Victoria. Eine Stätte der English Heritage. Aber es lohnt sich nicht, einen Overseas Visitors Pass zu kaufen, da wir nur diese Stätte während der Reise sehen. Eine weitere Stätte für den gleichen Eintritt: es hätte sich schon gelohnt.

Now also from inside... not always "family safe"... and from inside you see why the beauty of the view to the outside was the reason for that location.



Jetzt auch von innen... und nicht immer "jugendfrei"... und von innen sieht man, dass sehr schöne Aussichten nach außen für den Standort sprechen.

Der Einfluss Indiens, deren Kaiserin Victoria war: auch ein Grund für den Besuch. Ausgelöst durch den Film "Victoria und Abdul" mit Judy Dench.

Also fantastic outdoor facilities: it was so sad that it was so cold.



Auch sehr schöne Außenanlagen: wirklich schade, dass es so kalt ist.

In The Terrace Restaurant gehen wir essen. Sehr unfreundlicher Service. Speziell, als die Kellnerin einen Fehler machen und wir gerne das Bestellte hätten. Sonderwünsche, wie Espresso Macchiato werden nicht erfüllt.



In The Terrace Restaurant we went for lunch. They provided a very unfriendly service. Especially when the waitress made a mistake, and we insisted on getting this, what we ordered before. Special requests, like an Espresso Macchiato, they were unable to supply.

While the others walked down to the bathhouse at the beach, I was looking around in the gardens and in the glasshouses. In the greenhouse, it was nicely warm.



Während die anderen runter zum Badehaus am Strand laufen, sehe ich mich in den Gärten und im Gewächshaus um. Im Gewächshaus ist es schön warm.

Ich gehe in The Petty Officer's Quarters Café und warte hier: hier macht mir gerne einen Espresso Macchiato und sogar einen sehr leckeren. Ein interessanter Jimmy's Iced Coffee macht mich neugierig. Und etwas, was ich in der Schweiz hasse: Ein Eiersalat-Sandwich. Hier aber auf weißem Toast leider in Vierecken statt Dreiecken und leider mit dickem statt dünnen Toast... sonst genauso perfekt, wie ich es aus Kindertagen her kenne.



I went to The Petty Officer's Quarters Café and waited here: here, they prepared an Espresso Macchiato for me and a very yummy one. An interesting Jimmy's Iced Coffee made me curious. And something, I hated in Switzerland: an Egg Salad Sandwich. But here it was on white toast but unfortunately, in a square shape but a triangle shape and unfortunately, with thick but thin toast... apart from that, it was perfect like I used to have it from my days in the childhood.

Here and on the way home I was buying a lot of stuff. A few gloves of English Heritage: it was just too cold. Grate Britain Stilton Biscuits: the yummiest cheese biscuits - but in an oversized packaging which appeared that it had more inside. Shortbread from France by La Mère Poulard, which I really needed to try, if it was better than Scottish ones.



Hier und unterwegs nach Hause kaufe ich alles mögliche noch ein. Ein paar Handschuhe von English Heritage: es ist einfach zu kalt. Grate Britain Stilton Biscuits: das leckerste Käsegebäck - allerdings in einer Mogelpackung. Shortbread aus Frankreich von La Mère Poulard, muss ich unbedingt probieren, ob das besser als schottisches ist.

Wir fahren auf die andere Seite der Insel nach Yarmouth. Unter normalen Umständen hätten wir die Maut für den Steg bezahlt und wären bestimmt gerne darauf rausgelaufen. Aber keiner will. Und die Burg ist so klein, dass der Eintritt kaum etwas kostet im Gegensatz zum Osborne House.



We went to the other end of the island to Yarmouth, England. Under normal circumstances, we would pay the toll for the pier and would walk all the way out. But none of us was willing. And the castle was so small, that the admission fee was so little compared to the Osborne House.

But as it was so chilly and windy, we went back to the car and drove around in the heated vehicle.



Aber da es so kalt und windig ist, steigen wir schnell ins Auto und fahren lieber im geheizten Auto durch die Gegend.

Von hier fahren wir nach Fishbourne. Hier vom Strand können wir rüber nach Portsmouth gucken.

And here you could see the Solent when the ships were leaving Southampton.



Und von hier sieht man die Solent, wenn die Schiffe Southampton verlassen.

Der Wind schiebt die Wolken sehr schnell weiter. Die Dunkelheit bricht leider sehr schnell ein.



The wind moved the clouds very fast. It became dark very quickly.

Here, also the car ferry of WightLink docked.



Hier legt auch die Autofähre von WightLink.

Man erlaubt uns nicht zwei Fähren vorher auf Standby-Basis mitzunehmen. Die Preisdifferenz ist recht hoch.



They did not allow us to join two ferries earlier as stand-by. The price-difference was quite high.

They did not allow us at the terminal either. So we had to leave and saw outside how the ferry arrived and departed.



Wir dürfen aber auch nicht am Terminal warten. So fahren wir einmal kurz heraus und sehen der Fähre beim Anlaufen und Ablegen zu.

Nach dem sie abgelegt hat, fahren wir zum Terminal zurück und von hier nach Portsmouth.



After it left, we returned to the terminal and from here we went to Portsmouth.

The last view to MY VENTURA when she left heading for Zeebrugge, Belgium. Here too, the camera was blown out of my hand. So sad!



Ein letzter Blick auf MEINE VENTURA, als sie uns wieder Richtung Zeebrugge verlässt. Auch jetzt wird mir die Kamera aus der Hand geweht. Schade!

Auf der Fähre später gibt es aber nichts aufregendes.



On the ferry, there was not anything exciting.

When we docked, you had a beautiful view of the Spinnaker Tower. Unfortunately, we could not make it, to visit it.



Beim Anlegen gibt es einen schönen Blick auf den Spinnaker Tower. Leider schaffen wir es nicht, ihn noch besuchen.

Im China Restaurant Mary Rose & Dragon essen wir schnell zu Abend. Es liegt auf dem Weg von unserem Fährhafen zum großen Kanal-Fährhafen. Drinnen sitzen sehr viele Chinesen beim Abendessen. Ein sehr gutes Zeichen. In der Tat bieten sie tolle Spezialitäten, wie Feuertopf usw. an. Wir bestellen aber Dim Sum, die hausgemacht und lecker sind. Leider ist es drinnen sehr zugig und kalt, weil die Fenster nicht dicht sind. Selbst das Personal läuft dick angezogen in Jacken herum. Das "chinesiche" Signal für "bitte mehr heißes Wasser" kennen sie hier nicht.



In the Chinese restaurant Mary Rose & Dragon we went quickly to have dinner. In was on the way from our ferry terminal to the big Channel ferry terminal. Inside, there were many Chinese here to dine. A perfect sign. Indeed they offered great specialties like hot pot etc.. We ordered Dim Sum, which was homemade and delicious. Unfortunately, inside it was very draughty and cold because the windows were not sealed well. Even the staff members were walking around in warm clothes like winter jackets. Here, they did not know the "Chinese" signal for "more hot water please".

We went on the ferry NORMANDIE of Brittany Ferries. The vessel was built in 1991. I want to get back into the cabin on MY VENTURA!!! They only needed to find a way with P&O to carry my car and took us to Zeebrugge. Onboard they were all very friendly, but they were necessary to be to conceal the age of the ship. You really needed more than just paint. Just the "individually adjustable" air-condition made us made. We need to survive one more night.



Es geht auf die Fähre NORMANDIE von Brittany Ferries. Baujahr 1991. Ich will auf MEINE VENTURA zurück in meine Kabine!!! Sie hätten doch nur bei P&O einen Weg finden müssen, wie man mein Auto noch mitnehmen könnte und man hätte uns ganz einfach in Zeebrügge uns absetzen können. An Bord sind sie sehr freundlich, aber das müssen sie auch sein, um das Alter des Schiffes etwas zu kaschieren. Dazu hätte man aber auch schon mehr als Farbe gebraucht. Schon alleine die "individuell einstellbare" Klimaanlage treibt uns zum Wahnsinn. Eine Nacht müssen wir durchstehen.
