Tag/Day 1.1 auf der/on DELPHIN VOYAGER in Hamburg, Germany

Letztes Jahr wollten meine Mitarbeiter unbedingt nach der letzten Partynacht mit den Weather Girls auf der DELPHIN wieder auf die Partynacht.

Leider war die DELPHIN dann so gut ausgebucht (Hafengeburtstag und QUEEN MARY 2 in Hamburg), dass es nicht genügend Kabinen für uns gab. Denn waren wir im Vorjahr noch elf Mitfahrer, so sind es dieses Jahr 26 geworden. Viele wollten ihre Partner mitnehmen, damit sie einfach auch mal mitbekommen, wie es so auf einer Kreuzfahrt zugeht.

Da ich keine Lust mehr hatte, mich um unsere reservierten Plätze in der Bahn herumzustreiten, hatte ich dieses Mal einen Bus bestellt, der uns pünktlich im Harz abholte. Die Organisation übertrug ich Karin Kolan, die uns den Bus samt Ehemann Lothar stellte, der uns pünktlich zum Schiff brachte.



After last year's party night on DELPHIN (only in German) my employees want to go again on a party night.

Unfortunately DELPHIN was booked well (Port anniversary and QUEEN MARY 2 in Hamburg) that they could not offer us enough cabins. Last year we were 11. Now 26. Many of them wanted to have their partners with us to learn about crusing life.

As I did not want anymore having a fight for our reserved seats I ordered a bus which collected us right on time in the Harz highlands. We did all arrangements with Karin Kolan who organised the bus incl. husband Lothar who was our driver and took care that we should be there right on time.

Unfortunately we were unlucky with the weather so my Panama-Hat (made in Equador) which I bought while we cruised on CELEBRITY EQUINOX was helpful as it was made for the rainforrest. I welcomed my employees by personal handshake.



Leider spielte das Wetter nicht so mit, so dass der Panama-Hut (made in Ecuador), den wir auf der CELEBRITY EQUINOX-Kreuzfahrt erstanden, sich gut machte, da er ja für die Regenwälder konzepiert ist. Meine Mitarbeiter werden natürlich alle mit Handschlag begrüßt.

Damit niemand großes Frühstück noch vor der Fahrt auffahren muss und wir so an Bord gehen, dass wir noch alle kullinarischen Angebote wahrnehmen können, haben wir auf ein Mittagessen wie im letzten Jahr verzichtet. Stattdessen gibt es ein schönes spätes Frühstücksbüffet in der Lüneburger Heide im Hofcafé Betzhorn.



To avoid that each of us must prepare a large breakfast and that we cannot enjoy all offers on board we did not want to have lunch like last year. Instead we had a great late breakfast buffet in Lüneburg Heath in Hofcafé Betzhorn.

As I dislike to let everything unchecked we went there a day ahead and were surprised about the opening hours as I did not want have breakfast after 14.00 hrs. But the weekend opening hours differed.



Da ich ja nicht immer alles dem Zufall überlasse, waren wir tags zuvor schon mal da und waren über die Öffnungszeiten geschockt, weil wir nicht erst um 14.00 Uhr frühstücken wollten, aber am Wochenende sind sie zum Glück anders.

So konnten wir beim Testessen die tollen selbstgemachten Kuchen probieren...



So we had the occassion to test all the great self-made cakes...

There was a gift shop annex to the nice inn.



Zu dem Hofcafé gehört auch ein schöner Laden, bei dem man wirklich auch schöne Geschenke aller Art kaufen konnte.

Als wir dort ankamen erwartete uns ein tolles Frühstücksbüffet.



When we arrived a great breakfast buffet waited for us.

Nearly everything was home made and lovely decorated.



Fast alles war hausgemacht und liebevoll dekoriert.

Noch eine Eisskulptur und viele Mitesser mehr, und wir hätten uns auch auf dem Schiff befinden können.



One more ice sculpture and more guests and it could be on a ship.

It was the perfect rehersal for the midnight buffet. We really only need some more persons to fight with.



Es wäre die perfekte Generalprobe für das Mitternachtsbüffet geworden. Wir hätten bloß noch ein paar Statisten mehr gebraucht.

Auch die Anlagen um das Café sind sehr schön.



Around the inn it was just lovely.

While the smokers took the occassion to have a last cigarette before we continued some other browsed around in the shop.



Während die Raucher noch die Gelegenheit für eine letzte Zigarette für die Weiterfahrt genutzt haben, haben wir doch mal geguckt, was es so alles im Laden gab.

Gegen 13.00 Uhr erreichen wir den Freihafen in Hamburg.



Around 13.00 hrs we reached the port in Hamburg.

When we arrived two ships were at the cruise terminal MSC POESIA and DELPHIN VOYAGER.



Als wir ankommen, erwarten uns MSC POESIA und DELPHIN VOYAGER.

Ich erkläre, dass die DELPHIN VOYAGER das kleinere Schiff sei. Man merkt die Enttäuschung an.



When I explained that DELPHIN VOYAGER is the smaller of the two ships I could fee the disappointment.

The reaction were some comments to walk by mistake to the wrong ship. I stop their enthusiasm and pointed out that the cruise would terminate just opposite of the river Elbe in the drydocks of Blohm and Voss.



Es kamen dann die Kommentare, dass man doch einfach in das falsche Schiff einsteigen kann. Ich bremse die Euphorie, in dem sie darauf aufmerksam mache, dass dann die Kreuzfahrt gegenüber bei Blohm und Voss beendet sein wird, da sie ins Trockendock geht.

Also mache ich nochmals klar: wir müssen später nach hinten...



So I make another time clear: we need to go to the ship in the rear...

So far we knew it from DELPHIN: when we came to the time they published to start the check-in we were the last... with all other sailings the check-in started one or two hours earlier than published. But with DELPHIN VOYAGER it did not work like with the others. As no beverages were served for waiting guests we need to pay the monopoly prices: 2.50 EUR for 0.5 l of water.



Bisher kannten wir es so von der DELPHIN: wenn wir zu dem Zeitpunkt erschienen sind, an dem der Check-in anfangen sollte, waren wir fast die letzten... und bei allen anderen Abfahrten fing das Check-in doch ein bis zwei Stunden früher an. Aber bei DELPHIN VOYAGER geht wohl die Uhr anders. Da auch keine Erfrischungen für Wartende gereicht werden, müssen wir hier die monopolistischen Preise zahlen (0,5 l Wasser: 2,50 EUR).

Ein Shanty-Chor baut sich auf, um uns die Wartezeit zu verkürzen.

Als sie anfangen zu singen, flüchten auch die letzten meiner Mitarbeiter zum Unilever-Haus. Ich genieße das jedoch und singe lauthals mit...



When they started to sing the last of my employees escaped tot he Unilever-Building. I enjoyed it and sung loudly.

Typical German shanties: "Wo die Nordseewellen treffen an den Strand...", "Seemann, lass das Träumen...", "Auf der Reeperbahn nachts um halb eins..." etc.

Die fand ich hier immer etwas reserviert. Ein Schild, dass nur VIPs und Transitgäste bis 15.00 Uhr an Bord gelassen werden, hätte sich vor zudringlichen Gästen, wie mich, die natürlich nachfragen, warum schon andere an Bord dürfen und wir nicht, wirksam geschützt.



They were not very open to the guests. Just a signpost that only VIPs and transit guests (not just Hamburg-Kiel-guests) will be allowed to embark before 15.00 hrs would protected them from any contacts from other guests and discussions why other are allowed to embark.

Something good came from the ship... some beverages...



Nun gibt es doch was... es kommen Getränke vom Schiff...

... und Schnittchen... doch Service wie bei anderen...



... and sandwiches... so same standard like the other lines...

But it was not. The minute the crew returned to the ship the minute the choir stopped to sing. Beverages and sandwiches were only for the musicians.



Doch nicht. Kaum waren die Crew wieder an Bord, hörte die Musik auch schon auf. Die Getränke und Schnittchen waren nur für die Musiker.

Langsam füllt sich Terminal 2. Ich bitte aber meine Mitarbeiter noch nicht anzustellen, bevor nicht die Zuteilung klar wird, wer wo sich anstehen muss.



Terminal 2 filled up slowly but I asked my employees not to queue up until it's clear which queue is allocated for whom.

They start a little earlier than 15.00 hrs.



Etwas früher als 15.00 Uhr geht es dann doch los.

Erst als diese Schilder aufgestellt wurden, habe ich meine Mitarbeiter entsprechend verteilt. Manche haben es einfach ignoriert und so getan, als ob sie es nicht gelesen hätten und dann mussten die Mitarbeiter zwischen den Reihen springen und andere ärgerten sich, als sie an der Theke standen und es dann sahen und sich umdrehten, um sich korrekt anzustellen.



When they placed the signposts I asked my employees to find the right queue. Some just ignored it and so the agents must jump between the lines to find the right documents. Other saw it just in front of them and turned around to find the right queue and to be correct.

Everything was well prepared. Against presentation of ID-card and tickets they handed the prepared envelopes.



Alles war vorbereitet: gegen Vorlage der Pässe und des Tickets, werden die fertig vorbereiteten Unterlagen herausgesucht.

Im Umschlag finden wir die Cruisecards und die Tischreservierung.



In the enevelope we found the cruisecards and our table reservation.

My "survival box" which I got from my employees for my 44th birthday went trough the scanner without any complaints although I had wood with me to make an open fire like with Tom Hank's "Cast away"... But electrial appliances like hair dryer came into a special inspection and were reported.



Meine "Überlebenskiste", die mir meine Mitarbeiter zum 44. Geburtstag zusammengestellt haben, geht erstaunlicherweise anstandslos durch, obwohl zwei Holzscheitel in der Kiste sind, falls ich wie bei "Cast Away/Verschollen" wie Tom Hanks ein Notfeuer machen muss... Aber elektrische Geräte wie ein Haarfön, werden einer Sonderkontrolle unterzogen und erfasst.

Wer den Terminal 2 kennt, weiss dass am Ausgang der Container der Bundespolizei und des Zolls steht. Dort werden die Einschiffungsfotos gemacht. Bis dass sich 26 entsprechend aufgestellt haben, ist natürlich ein kleiner Stau verursacht. Für die letzten Meter zum Schiff, die wir hätten auch bequem laufen können, werden Shuttlebusse eingesetzt.



Who was familiar with Terminal 2 knew about the container for the immigration and customs officer. There they did the embarkation pictures. Setting 26 together for a picture occured a small congestion. For the last mile (better yards) they used bus shuttle although this distance was walkable.

As they only use liner buses which had no baggage racks the buses were quickly filled so that we cannot get all into one bus.



Da normale Linienbusse eingesetzt werden und kein Gepäckservice angeboten wird, sind die Busse sehr schnell voll, so dass wir nicht alle mitkommen.

Wir nehmen den nächsten, der jedoch gar nicht an der DELPHIN VOYAGER halten will, sondern Oldesloer Straße???



We took the next but this one does not want to stop at the DELPHIN VOYAGER but Oldesloer Strasse in Hamburg???

In front of the ship they waited for us to embark together.



Vor dem Schiff treffen wir uns alle wieder und betreten das Schiff gemeinsam.

Kaum zu glauben, dass es schon drei Jahre her ist, dass wir auf dem Schiff die Schiffsbesichtigung gemacht haben.



I cannot believe that it was already three years ago when we made the ship visit.

In front of us MSC POESIA was still there. I hoped so much that we will become witness when she moved into the dry dock...



Vor uns liegt noch die MSC POESIA und ich hatte so gehofft, dass wir dabei wären, wenn das Schiff in das Trockendock geht...
