Tag/Day 0C auf dem Weg zur/on the way to VENTURA in Birmingham - Liverpool - Glenridding, England

Man müsste sich bei der Anreise etwas angewöhnen: Probeduschen und dann ggfls. reklamieren. Die Steuerung mit der Wasserstärke funktioniert nicht so.



When you were checking you need to become familiar to take a test shower and then to complain eventually. The control of the water pressure did not work correctly.

Totally annoying: the sealing of the shower head did not fit. So not all the water came out from the shower head.



Total nervig: Die Dichtung zum Duschkopf passt nicht. Also kommt nicht alles durch den Duschkopf.

Und die Duschkabine ist undicht.



And the shower cabin was leaky.

And just setting the temperature of the heat to 25°C (77F)...



Und kaum haben wir die Heizung auf 25°C gesetzt...

... springt sie automatisch auf 21°C. Die Haustechnik scheint die Schwäche des Hotels zu sein.

We went for breakfast. You had bacon, you had beans - but no eggs. They ran out of eggs, and they could not manage to send someone to a supermarket to buy some eggs. I a city of one million inhabitants like Birmingham! And again a toaster which you could not set anything and the toast was burned, and the house technicians even could not fix here anything.



Es geht zum Frühstück. Es gibt Speck, Bohnen - nur keine Eier. Die Eier sind ausgegangen und sie haben es nicht geschafft, jemanden zu einem Supermarkt zu schicken, der Eier besorgt. In einer Millionenstadt wie Birmingham! Und wieder ein Toaster, der nicht einstellbar ist und das Brot darin verbrennt und die Haustechnik schafft es auch hier nicht, etwas zu machen.

Wir müssen weiter und warten auf Uber. Heute ist nicht wegen Marathon die halbe Innenstadt gesperrt, sondern wegen einer Baustelle. Deswegen dauert es wieder eine Ewigkeit, bis dass wir am Parkplatz wieder zurück sind.



We had to head on and were waiting for Uber. Today, half of the city center was not closed because of the marathon but a construction site. So it took us an eternity to find us back on the parking.

Right on time, we arrived at our meeting point at Royal Albert Dock in Liverpool, England.



Rechtzeitig kommen wir am Treffpunkt am Royal Albert Dock in Liverpool an.

Zunächst brauche ich einen Kaffee und die anderen die Toiletten. Schnell zu Puffle Waffle. Leider reicht die Zeit nicht mehr, um eine Waffel zu probieren.



I needed first a coffee while the other needed to see toilets. Quickly to Puffle Waffle. Unfortunately, there was not enough time to try one of the waffles.

Here, the Magical Mystery Tour started too.



Hier beginnt auch die Magical Mystery Tour.

Sie wird vom Cavern Club angeboten. Den Besuch hier heben wir uns für das nächste Mal auf.



It was provided by the Cavern Club. We saved the visit for the next time.

But honestly spoken: we were quite happy, that we did not join this tour! Later at the place where Ringo Starr lived: the bus came by. Nobody walked off.



Wir sind aber sehr froh, dass wir die Tour nicht gemacht haben! Später am ehemaligen Wohnhaus von Ringo Starr: der Bus kommt vorbei. Niemand steigt aus.

Zehn Sekunden später ist er wieder weg, während wir noch vor Ort alle Geschichten erzählt bekommen.



Ten seconds later, it was gone, while we still learned more of the old stories.

On the website, they also offered private tours, which would be provided by The Liverpool Tour Guide Service. The tour was for sure not cheap with an extra driver (Mark), vehicle (leather equipment and water) and tour guide (Debbie), but inexpensive since it was worth the money! In a short time, we saw a lot. We started in the area, where Ringo Starr grew up.



Auf der Webseite werden auch private Touren angeboten, die dann von The Liverpool Tour Guide Service arrangiert werden. Die Tour ist mit extra Fahrer (Mark), Fahrzeug (Lederausstattung und Wasser) und Fremdenführerin (Debbie) sicherlich nicht billig, aber preiswert! In einer sehr kurzen Zeit sehen wir extrem viel. Los geht es in dem Viertel, in dem Ringo Starr aufgewachsen ist.

As just recently Carpool Karaoke of The Late Late Show with James Corden and Paul McCartney was broadcasted, you could easily see, why the street sign was under glass now.



Da ausgerechnet vor kurzem Carpool Karaoke aus der The Late Late Show mit James Corden und Paul McCartney lief, kann man hier sehr schön sehen, warum jetzt das Straßenschild jetzt unter Glas ist.

In dem Video geht es in Tony Slavins Friseurladen rein, der im Lied "Penny Lane" erwähnt wird. Und wir dürfen auch rein, um "Hallo" zu sagen! Wir haben auch andere Gruppen hier gesehen, aber keine andere Gruppe ist hier reingegangen. Nur wir!

In the video they went into Tony Slavin's barber shop, which was mentioned in the song "Penny Lane". And we could also get in, to say "hello"! We also saw other groups here, but none of the other groups went into. Just us!

No bus could come to this place: one former place John Lennon lived before.



Hier kommt kein Bus hin: ein mal kurz an einem ehemaligen Haus vorbei, in dem früher John Lennon lebte.

Der heutige Eigentümer hat in Erinnerung an ihn, die Treppenstufen gravieren lassen.

Es geht weiter zu einem weiteren Haus, in dem John Lennon aufgewachsen ist. Besichtigungen innen sind über den National Trust möglich.



We were heading further to another house, where John Lennon grew up. Visits inside could be arranged by National Trust.

We were not allowed to walk in unless we had booked the other tour too.



Wir dürfen hier leider nicht rein, weil wir sonst eben die gesonderte Tour buchen müssen.

Mit etwas Erstaunen: eine Plakette von English Heritage hängt am Haus. Aber hierüber kann man es nicht besuchen.



I was surprised that there was a plaque of English Heritage was on the house. But you could not make any visits through them.

And here again: while Debbie was telling us in front of the house everything worth to know of John Lennon's childhood: a bus came. Stopped for less than one minute. And soon it was heading on.



Auch hier wieder: während Debbie uns vor dem Haus alles über John Lennons Kindheit erzählt: der Bus kommt. Stoppt für weniger als eine Minute. Und schon ist er weiter.

Es geht weiter zu St. Peter Kirche.

It was the place 1957 Paul McCartney, and John Lennon met the very first time due to a Garden Fete.



Hier begegneten sich Paul McCartney und John Lennon zum ersten Mal anlässlich einer Gartenfeier 1957.

Natürlich müssen wir hier halten.



Certainly we had to stop here.

Weiter geht es zum ehemaligen Haus von Paul McCartney. Auch das kann innen nur im Rahmen mit der Tour von National Trust besucht werden. Im Carpool Karaoke Video gibt es aber Bilder von innen.



We were continuing to the former house of Paul McCartney. This was also a place, you could only see inside when you booked a tour with National Trust. You could see some insight into the Carpool Karaoke Video.

The return journey was used for requests of Beatles-songs. Indeed, I requested "Here, There, and Everywhere". Although my favorite version was not from the Beatles but from Celine Dion together with the 5th Beatle: George Martin, who released 1998 the album "In My Life" and let many stars singing the Beatles-Song in a new way.



Die Rückfahrt wird genutzt, damit wir selbst uns Beatles-Lieder wünschen können. Ich wünsche mir natürlich "Here, There, and Everywhere". Wobei meine Lieblingsfassung ist gar nicht von den Beatles, sondern von Celine Dion gemeinsam mit dem 5. Beatle: George Martin, der 1998 das Album "In My Life" aufgenommen hat und hier viele Stars die Beatles-Songs neu interpretieren.

Weiter geht es zu Jamie's Italian. Nach den tollen Erfahrungen nach der QUEEN MARY 2 2017 in London und QUEEN MARY 2 2018 in Reading, sind wir komplett enttäuscht. So einen unmotivierten, schlechten Service haben wir schon lange nicht mehr erlebt. Wir merken, dass Jamie Oliver wenige Tage vorher die Kette vor dem Bankrott mit einer Millionenspritze retten musste. Ich hätte gerne die Karma Cola probiert. Aber offensichtlich werden sie nicht mehr damit beliefert. Hoffentlich geht es denen bald besser, damit sie sich wieder besseres Personal leisten können.



We were walking over to Jamie's Italian. After great experiences after QUEEN MARY 2 2017 in London, England and QUEEN MARY 2 2018 in Reading, England, we were totally disappointed. For a long time, we did not experience a more unmotivated and worse service. We could feel, that Jamie Oliver had to spend millions out of his pocket to beware the chain of becoming bankrupt. I loved to try Karma Cola. But obviously, they were not supplied anymore. Hopefully, they would be good soon again, to afford better staff members again.

Back to the car. It was still there.

We were heading on for the Lake District in Northern England. I confess: most of the time, I see a movie, and I want to go there too. Here it was "Miss Potter".



Es geht zum Lake District in Nordengland. Ich bekenne mich: meistens sehe ich einen Film und dann will ich auch hin. Hier ist es "Miss Potter".



We had luck: the weather was inviting. The roads became hillier, narrower, winding... "The Long and Winding Road"...



Wir haben Glück: das Wetter ist einladend. Die Straßen werden immer hügeliger, enger, windiger... "The Long and Winding Road"...

Bevor es jedoch Dunkel ist haben wir Glück, dass wir noch rechtzeitig Mosscrag Guest House in Glenridding erreichen. Allerdings ist es hier schon arschkalt, als die Sonne weg ist. Es macht von außen einen netten Eindruck. Die Zimmer sind etwas eng. Wir vermissen einen Stuhl oder ähnliches im Zimmer. Sehr nervig: wenn das Waschbecken im Zimmer ist. Hat den Vorteil, dass man sich weiter fertig machen kann, wenn einer im Bad duscht, aber auch den Nachteil, dass man nach einem nächtlichen Besuch der Toilette, man das Licht im Schlafzimmer anmachen muss, um sich die Hände zu waschen. Das Internet ist zwar im Haus verfügbar, aber nicht in jedem Zimmer. Und unsere einzige Möglichkeit mit unseren iPhones zu telefonieren: über den VPN-Zugang zu Hause rufe ich unsere Fremdenführin in England an.



Before it became dark, we had the luck to arrive right on time at the Mosscrag Guest House in Glenridding, England. But it was quite chilly here when the sun was away. From the outside, it made a lovely impression. The room was somehow narrow. We missed a chair and something like this in the place. Very annoying: when the sink was in the room. It has the advantage that you could finish while the other was taking a shower in the bathroom. But it also had the disadvantage that you need to turn on the light in the sleeping room after a nighty visit of the toilet to wash your hands. You could get the internet in the building but not in every place. And the only way to make phone calls with our iPhones: to call our tour guide in England via our VPN-access home.

For dinner, we saw Beckside-Bar in The Glenridding Hotel. Nothing exciting. Typical English: order and pay at the bar and let them serve you at the table.



Zum Abendessen geht es in die Beckside-Bar in The Glenridding Hotel. Nichts aufregendes. Typisch englisch: an der Theke bestellen und bezahlen und sich an den Tisch bringen lassen.
