Tag/Day 3 auf der/on VENTURA in Gijón - Oviedo, Spain (anstatt/instead of La Coruña, Spain)

Es geht zum Frühstück. Obstsalat.

Ich bekam kein Congee. Auch nicht aus der Crew-Galley: die Struktur der Crew ist anders. Die sind hier an Bord "indischer" als bei den Amerikanern, die "philippinischer" sind und Congee zum Frühstück essen. Es gibt aber heute eine Eierspeise, die für den philippinischen Teil der Crew ist. Erinnert fast an eine Eierspeise meiner Mutter, die ich bestimmt schon seit meiner Kindheit nicht bekommen hat. Ich muss mal Verhandlungen führen: ob ich nicht einfach bei der Crew frühstücken darf...



I did not get any congee. None from the crew-galley either: they had a different crew-structure. They were here onboard more "Indian" than with the Americans, who were more "Philippines" and ate more congee for breakfast. They had a special egg dish which was more for the Philippine part of the crew. It reminded me to an egg dish, which I got from my mother and the last time, I got it, was in my childhood. I need to negotiate, to get my breakfast with the crew...

Before I ordered some scrambled eggs made of one single fresh egg. You needed to say this onboard explicitly.



Zuvor bestelle ich Rührei aus einem frischem Ei. Muss man auch hier an Bord ausdrücklich sagen.

Da wir mittags nicht an Bord sind, will ich sehen, was ich mittags hier verpasse.



Since we would not be on board at noon, I wanted to see, what we would miss for lunch.

The most important number, which you always should have with you on your shore excursion: the phone number of the port agent.



Die wichtigste Nummer, die man auf jeden Ausflug mithaben sollte: die Nummer vom Hafenagenten.

Sehr gut: man musste nie nachfragen, wo es zum Ausgang geht. Die Beschilderung auf dem Schiff ist wirklich vorbildlich.



Very good: there was never a need to ask, where to find the exit. The signpost on board was exemplary.

We needed to be back at 17:30 hrs. Why did not they publish the times, in advance? Just to unsettle guests with individual shore arrangements and to sell more shore excursions?



17:30 Uhr müssen wir zurück sein. Warum veröffentlicht man das eigentlich nicht vorher? Nur, um Gäste, die individuell von Bord wollen, zu verunsichern und mehr eigene Ausflüge zu verkaufen?

Gijón, Asturien - ich komme.

In einem Zelt. Es gibt hier aber gar nichts zu kaufen. Es gibt hier auch kein Taxi und keine Touranbieter..



In a tent. There was anything, you could buy. They had no taxi or any tour operator either around.

Und da kommen endlich Bruno und Sigi.



And finally, Bruno and Sigi came.

Actually, we were far away: Puerto de el Musel. The shuttle needed approx. 30 minutes to get us to Calle de Claudio Alvargonzáles around Puerto Deportivo de Gijón. Here they had no taxi rank or tour operators either. The shuttle was managed superbly. There was never a need to wait long, and they also had some vehicles integrated, which could carry wheelchairs.



Wir liegen eigentlich ziemlich weit weg: Puerto de el Musel. Der Shuttle bringt uns in ca. 30 Minuten zur Calle de Claudio Alvargonzáles auf die Höhe Puerto Deportivo de Gijón. Hier gibt es aber auch keinen Taxistand oder Touranbieter. Der Shuttle ist super organisiert. Man muss nie lange warten und es sind auch immer Fahrzeuge dabei, die Rollstühle mitnehmen können.

Mit einem Taxi, das wir unterwegs finden, fahren wir zum Bahnhof. Wir fahren nach Oviedo, die Hauptstadt Asturiens. Hier fährt neben einzelnen Fernverkehrszügen auch alle 30 Minuten eine S-Bahn (Cercanias) nach Oviedo, die nur wenige Minuten mehr braucht als der Fernverkehrszug. Die Fahrkarten bekommt man nur am Automaten. Man muss die Fahrkarten gut aufheben, da sie auch beim Verlassen eingelesen werden.



We caught a taxi on the way to the train station. We went to Oviedo, Spain, Capital city of Asturia. You had a few long-distance trains, but you also had every 30 minutes a commuter train (Cercanias) to Oviedo, which would need only a few minutes more than the long-distance train. You could only get the tickets at the ticket machine. You needed to save the tickets since they would be rechecked at the exit.

We used the commuter train to Oviedo and later back to Gijón. The orientation was very easy.



Wir nehmen die S-Bahn nach Oviedo und später wieder zurück nach Gijón. Die Orientierung ist einfach.

Da wir ja ursprünglich auf der BRITANNIA zuvor hätten Gijón anlaufen sollen, stand ich bereits mit Guias Turísticos Oficiales de Asturias in Kontakt. Dann hatten wir ja umgebucht und dann musste ich wieder stornieren. Das war kein Problem. Und es ist dann auch jetzt kein Problem, jetzt wieder eine private Tour zu bekommen. Elvira hat uns am Bahnhof abgeholt und macht mit uns einen Stadtrundgang. Wir erfahren, dass die Moslems es nicht geschafft haben, in diesen Teil Spaniens vorzudringen und wurden von hier zurückgeschlagen. Schöne Bänke in Regenbogenfarben.



Since we were booked originally on BRITANNIA and would call Gijón before, I was already in touch with Guias Turísticos Oficiales de Asturias. Since we rebooked, I needed to cancel again. That was not any problem. And it was not any problem, to book another private tour again. Elvira met us at the train station and did a walking tour with us. We learned that the Muslims did not make it conquer this part of Spain and were beaten back from here. They had nice benches in the rainbow colors.

The reason to see Oviedo. Woody Allen and his movie "Vicky Cristina Barcelona". Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem) invited Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) to stay a weekend with him in Oviedo. With the help of the beauty of Oviedo, he tried to seduce the two women. That was why we were here too...

Und deswegen sind wir auch hier...

Juan Antonio erklärt im Film, dass er sich eine Skulptur ansehen will. Nur es gibt in der Stadt zig Skulpturen in der Stadt. Eine Stadt voller Kunst.

Here they had a great exhibition.

The most popular St. James Pilgrim Way started in Roncavalles, France.



Der bekannteste Jakobsweg beginnt in Roncavalles, Frankreich.

Der allererste beginnt jedoch hier in Oviedo: Uns wird erklärt, dass König Alfons II. von Asturien der erste gewesen sei, der von hier nach Santiago de Compostela gepilgert ist. Dort waren wir ja schon auf der Kreuzfahrt auf der KONINGSDAM 2016.



The very first started here in Oviedo: We were told that King Alfonso II. of Asturia was the very first, who walked from here to Santiago de Compostela. There, we were on our cruise on KONINGSDAM 2016.

We headed to the market hall Mercado El Fontan. Here you could get Fabada and also all ingredients for the Asturian bean soup. For the crew, we bought some small treats since they had no chance to buy anything around the port.



Es geht weiter in die Markthalle Mercado El Fontan. Hier bekommt man Fabada und auch alle Zutaten für die asturische Bohnensuppe. Für die Crew kaufen wir ein paar Kleinigkeiten, da es ja keine Einkaufsmöglichkeiten in Hafennähe gibt.

Weiter geht es durch Oviedo. Ich kaufe mir eine Lotterielos für El Gordo - die spanische Weihnachtslotterie, bei der man den ganzen Tag Schulkinder die Gewinnzahlen singen hört. Später treffen wir noch Mafalda, die wir dann im Januar 2019 in Buenos Aires wieder treffen. Sind es wirklich 27°C - Ende Oktober?



We were continue to walk through Oviedo. I bought a lottery ticket for El Gordo - the Spanish Christmas lottery you needed to listen to school kids were singing the winning numbers. Later we met also Mafalda whom we would meet again in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Was not it really 27°C - End of October?

The last sight was the Eurostars Hotel de la Reconquista. Here they also taped some scenes from the movie "Vicky Cristina Barcelona". A high end of our guided tour.



Es geht noch in das Eurostars Hotel de la Reconquista. Hier wurden eben auch Szenen zum Film "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" gedreht. Ein tolles Ende der geführten Tour.

Und am Schluss müssen wir noch im Café Rialto vorbei. Die Nr. 1 Hausspezialität: Moscovitas - die wir mit nach Hause nehmen.



At the end we needed to see Café Rialto. The No. 1 specialty of the house: Moscovitas - which we took home.

We went back to Gijón. There we needed to see another café after the long train ride and the walk from the station: La Casa del Café. You needed to order a Cappuccino! Some churros were served complimentary.



Wir fahren nach Gijón zurück. Dort müssen wir zunächst nach der Bahnfahrt und dem Fußweg vom Bahnhof erst mal wieder in ein Café: La Casa del Café. Hier muss man einfach Cappuccino bestellen! Es gibt auch kostenlos Churros dazu.

Noch ein paar Schritte durch die Stadt bevor wir den Shuttlebus wieder erreichen.

In the cabin, a few canapés were waiting for us. But they were not very special.

The Retreat on P&O-Ships was adequate to The Sanctuary with the Princess-Ships. Would I knew it earlier: maybe I would have booked an inside stateroom again like then on DIAMOND PRINCESS 2016 and spent outdoor in The Sanctuary.



Das Retreat an Bord der P&O-Schiffe entspricht The Sanctuary bei den Princess-Schiffen. Hätte ich es vorher gewusst: vielleicht hätte ich ja doch wieder eine Innenkabine gebucht, wie damals auf der DIAMOND PRINCESS 2016 und draußen in The Sanctuary verbracht.

Aber es gibt hier noch tolle andere Sonnendeckbereiche.

Und heute findet man kaum noch Spuren davon damals. Außer im Atrium. Dort werden ein paar Tricks noch beigebracht.



Today, there were not so many traces to find. But in the atrium. Here they still taught some tricks.

Above in the self-service restaurant, they offered a Spanish buffet. The tea-assortment, they provided were a little disappointing. But the selection of soft drinks was really surprisingly good. They also had a pizza outlet. They had an ice-cream sale of Jude's. And they also had a barbecue station.



Oben im SB-Restaurantbereich wird ein spanisches Büffet angeboten. Die angebotenen Teesorten sind etwas enttäuschend. Dafür ist das Angebot an alkoholfreien Getränken sehr erfreulich. Es gibt noch eine Pizza-Ausgabe. Es gibt einen Eisverkauf von Jude's. Sowie noch eine Grillstation.

Wir gehen wieder Cappuccino-Trinken. Wie üblich bekommen wir immer zunächst die Untertasse, einen Löffel und ein Cantuccini. Oft wartet man noch 10-20 Minuten, bis dass man dann auch die Tasse mit Cappuccino bekommt.



We went again to have some cappuccino. As usual, first, we got the saucer, a spoon, and a Cantuccini. Mostly you were waiting another 10-20 minutes before the cup of cappuccino arrived.

Here they also offered some gluten-free items.



Hier gibt es auch ein glutenfreies Angebot.

Und auch zuckerfrei.



Or sugar-free too.

As I could see with the wrap: cream cheese could not be so unknown on board.



An dem Wrap sehe ich: so unbekannt kann Frischkäse an Bord nicht sein.

Es geht zum Abendessen. Ein tolles Angebot.

Elvira hat mir beim Versenden von Schokolade an David geholfen. Der spanische Postmitarbeiter verlangte, dass ich keinesfalls darauf bestehe, dass im Falle einer Nichtzustellung, die Rücksendung nach Deutschland erfolgen muss. Aber es hat ja geklappt. Vielen Dank nochmals an David und das nächste Mal hoffentlich lernen wir auch A Coruña endlich kennen.



Elvira helped me to dispatch some chocolate to David. The agent of the Spanish Postal Services required that I would not insist on returning the shipment to Germany, in case they could not deliver. But it worked. Thanks again to David and hopefully the next time we would have a chance to know A Coruña finally too.
