Seetag/Day at Sea 6 auf der/on VENTURA

Seetag. Es geht zum Schwimmen.



I went swimming.

I did not want to say anything, but the bathrobes were really cheap. From GOLDEN PRINCESS 2016, we still had one from the Behind-the-Scenes-Tour.



Ich will ja nichts sagen, aber die Bademäntel sind sehr preiswert. Von der DIAMOND PRINCESS 2016 haben wir ja noch einen von der Behind-the-Scene-Tour.

Leider habe ich das Badetuch in der Kabine vergessen.



Unfortunately, I left the beach towel in the cabin.

And around the pool, I could not find any.



Und am Becken finde ich keine.

Das Schiff ist im Dunkeln "sexy". Wir haben Glück mit dem Tag. Es ist nicht warm, aber schön sonnig. Sogar ein Vogel schafft es an Bord und fährt als blinder Passagier mit. Tanzkurse gibt es zu jeder Zeit und an jedem Ort. Solo-Tea-Time und Fussball-Übertragung gehört zum Standard an Bord. Girls und Boys. Oder Ladies und Gentlemen. Aber hier an Bord gilt: Girls und Gentlemen. Ich freue mich nochmals auf Helen Mirren und den Lake District.



When it was dark, the ship appeared "sexy" to me. It was not warm, but nice sunny. Even a bird made it on board and joined as a stowaway. They had dance lessons all the time everywhere. Solo-Tea-Time and Football-Broadcast were standard onboard. Girls and Boys. Or Ladies and Gentlemen. But here onboard they had: Girls and Gentlemen. I was happy to see Helen Mirren and the Lake District again.

I was surprised, how many items for dietary nutrition they had. For Bruno, I got a personal container for the soy-yogurt, which I could take to our cabin.



Ich bin erstaunt, wieviele Diät-Angebote es an Bord gibt. Für Bruno bekomme ich einen eigenen Becher Soja-Joghurt mit, den ich auf die Kabine mitnehmen kann.

While I was editing the pictures for Facebook, I was surprised that Bruno was tagged more frequently as his father.



Während ich die Bilder für Facebook fertigmache, bin ich erstaunt, dass Bruno immer öfters als sein Vater identifiziert wird.

Ich bei der Arbeit.

I ordered me a kit for preparing iced tea since I was on an English ship. Getting a glass was easy. Getting some tea was easy. But ice cubes were quite "normal" at this time of the day, but here it was more unusual.



Ich bestelle mir meinen Bausatz für Eistee, den man selbst machen muss, weil wir auf einem englischen Schiff sind. Ein Glas zu bekommen ist einfach. Einen Tee zu bekommen ist einfach. Aber Eiswürfel um diese Zeit sind auf einem amerikanischen Schiff "normal", hier eher etwas ungewöhnlich.

Dann noch mein Cranberry Saft.



Then I had my cranberry juice too.

A steak with a fried egg and HP-Sauce: could a day start in a better way? And you would get it in the main dining room. Every day should be a Thursday. In the future, I book instead of a 7-nights-cruise: 7 1-night-cruise from Wednesday to Thursday.



Ein Steak mit einem Spiegelei und HP-Sauce: kann der Tag besser beginnen? Und das im Hauptrestaurant. Es müsste jeder Tag Donnerstag sein. In Zukunft buche ich statt einer einwöchigen Kreuzfahrt, lieber sieben Kreuzfahrten mit der Dauer von einer Nacht, die immer von Mittwoch auf Donnerstag gehen.

Im Tazzine gibt es Tee von teapigs.

I liked my cold coffee specialties very much.



Ich mag ja meine kalten Kaffeespezialitäten.

Aber gibt es gar keine Alternativen als sie immer nur in Plastik zu servieren?



But were there no alternative containers they could serve but plastics?

What was less pleasant: the posters were fixed with some adhesive tapes.



Weniger schön: die Plakate, die man nur mit Tesa-Film billig angebracht hat.

Irgendwie passt das doch nicht zu einem professionellen Kreuzfahrtschiff.



But that did not fit to a professional cruise ship.

We checked what we could have for lunch and considered one of the alternative dining options, where we might go. They only had The Glasshouse which should be open from 11:00 hrs to 23:00 hrs. According to that list, Shindu at East should be open at 18:00 hrs. By coincidence, we mentioned it, during the breakfast and we were asked, why we would not like to see Shindu at East? They booked us a table and our reservation was known when we came. They gave an adorable table. Unfortunately, they had many times only the names of a dish without further explanations. That made us need to ask for additional information. It was sometimes quite challenging to understand acoustically (accent/dialect) the explanations, and we needed to ask again. It was nice to get the condiments still as silver service.



Wir prüfen, was es mittags zu essen gibt und überlegen uns auch nochmals evtl. in einer der Zuzahlrestaurants zu gehen. Es gibt jedoch nur The Glasshouse, das geöffnet hat: von 11:00 Uhr bis 23:00 Uhr. Das Shindu at East hat offiziell lt. Liste erst ab 18:00 Uhr geöffnet. Zufällig erwähnen wir das beim Frühstückstisch und wir werden gefragt, warum wir nicht mittags zum Shindu at East gehen wollen? Man bucht für uns einen Tisch und dieses Mal ist auch unsere Reservierung bekannt. Wir bekommen einen sehr schönen Tisch. Leider gibt es oft nur die Bezeichnung für ein Gericht ohne weitergehende Beschreibung. Das führt dazu, dass wir immer wieder rückfragen haben. Oftmals verstehen wir akustisch (Akzent/Dialekt) nicht immer sehr gut die Erläuterungen und müssen dann nochmals nachfragen. Sehr schön, dass es hier die Beilagen wieder als Silverservice gibt.

Einer der wenigen Gerichte, die ausführlicher beschrieben werden: "'Tay Cai' Fruit Salad with Ice Cream". Der Obstsalat vom Frühstück sieht genauso aus, nur dass die Kugel Eis fehlt. Dafür bezahlt man eben eine Zuzahlung von 10 GBP für das dreigängige Menü!



One of the few dishes, which were described more detailed: "'Tay Cai' Fruit Salad with Ice Cream". The fruit salad looked the same as the one we had for breakfast, but without the scope of ice cream. For that, you were paying a cover charge of 10 GBP for a three-course-menu!

And mainly: that was the Nan-bread we hot with our local Indian restaurant at home in Germany in a small town - where you had a flatbread, which you could form to dip in a sauce. Well, I had to admit that my entree was any way to dry since there was no sauce. But my complain that the bread was hard as a rock, they did not accept and appreciated: "Sir, the bread is complimentary. You have no right for any complaints! It has nothing to do with Indian food. It is Pan-Asian." and we did not see the waitress again since she was not interested in serving us anymore. I was already in Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore: but from there, I did not know such a hard bread either.



Und vor allem: das ist das Nan-Brot von unserem Inder in Heppenheim an der Bergstraße - tiefste Provinz in Südhessen: dort gibt es ein Fladenbrot, das man formen kann, um es in die Saucen zu dippen. OK. Ich gebe zu, dass mein Hauptgang eh zu trocken war, weil es gar keine Sauce gab. Aber meine Kritik, dass das Brot hart wie (Thyssen-)Krupp-Stahl sei, ist unerwünscht: "Sir, das Brot ist kostenlos. Es steht Ihnen daher nicht zu, das zu reklamieren! Es hat mit indischem Essen nichts zu tun. Es ist pan-asiatisch." und die Kellnerin haben wir dann nie wieder gesehen, weil sie wohl keine Lust mehr hatte, uns weiter zu bedienen. Ich war schon in Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Kambodscha, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapur: aber von dort kenne ich auch kein so hartes Brot.

Wir gehen kurzerhand in The Glasshouse. Karibi rettet mein Leben: sie macht für uns sofort einen Tisch sauber und ich bekomme Wan-Tan mit Schokoladenfüllung und Matcha-Tee-Sauce - das nenne ich pan-asiatisch.



We went at short-notice to The Glasshouse. Karibi saved my life: immediately she cleaned a table for us, and I got some Won-Tons with chocolate filling and matcha-tea-sauce - that was Pan-Asian.

And she got us again our Espresso Macchiato.



Und sie besorgt uns wieder unser Espresso Macchiato.

Only BRITANNIA I could get in front of my camera: but it was so windy - my camera was more or less blown off my hands.



Nur die BRITANNIA bekomme ich vor die Linse: Aber es ist so windig - meine Kamera wird mir quasi aus der Hand geweht.

Bruno geht waschen. Man muss entweder eigenes Waschmittel mitbringen oder im Geschäft unten kaufen.



Bruno went laundry. You needed to have your own detergents with you or buy some in the shops downstairs.

So sad, that they did not have any laundry flat rate like we had on KONINGSDAM 2016. For that, we loved Holland America.



Schade, dass es keine Wäsche-Flatrate gibt, wie zuletzt auf der KONINGSDAM 2016. Dafür lieben wir Holland America.

Die Stichwörter Barockmusik und Johann Sebastian Bach sorgen dafür, dass ich zum Konzert des Gitarristen Christopher Bundhun gehe.



The keywords baroque music and Johann Sebastian Bach made me attending the concert of the guitarist Christopher Bundhun.

Someone else came on the stage. It did not look like the one in the daily programme.



Es kommt allerdings jemand anders auf die Bühne. Der sieht nicht so aus, wie der im Tagesprogramm.

Der Klassik-Teil gefällt mir sehr gut.



I liked very much the classical part.

They had another problem on board: it was the only ship where you had to die on thirst: after 45 minutes, you could not order anything.



Es gibt noch ein anderes Problem an Bord: es ist das einzige Schiff, in dem man verdurstet: nach 45 Minuten kann ich immer noch nichts bestellen.

Auf anderen Schiffen, wie hier auf der GRAND PRINCESS 2018, wird man sehr offensiv auf einem separaten Bogen gefragt, wie man wieder gedenkt das Schiff zu verlassen.



On other ships, like here on GRAND PRINCESS 2018, you were addressed very offensive on a separate sheet, to find out how you would like to leave the ship.

Here you had it as a small notice between "Responsible service with alcohol" and "Go green" in the daily programme, and you should report to the front desk to tell them your request. I asked at the front desk when they would deliver the debarkation information and I was told that I needed to report my individual wishes with them until noon the day before.



Hier steht so etwas als kleine Notiz zwischen "verantwortungsvollen Umgang mit Alkohol" und "geschlossenen Bereichen" im Tagesprogramm und man soll sich an der Rezeption melden, um seine Wünsche vorzutragen. Ich habe irgendwann an der Rezeption angefragt, wann eigentlich die Ausschiffungsinformationen kommen und ich bekomme die Mitteilung, dass ich mich hätte bis gestern 12:00 Uhr melden müssen, um individuelle Wünsche anzumelden.

Wir bekommen eine Zeit zugeteilt, die uns nicht passt.

And we got a new time slot.



Und wir bekommen eine neue Zeit zugeteilt.

Obwohl kostenpflichtig, versuche ich mal den Kabinenservice.



Although you had to pay: I tried the cabin service.

Everything came quite fast.



Alles kommt sehr zügig.

Allerdings ist das schon wieder Kartoffelpürree als Suppe.



But again mash potatoes as soup.

I was surprised that the rolls appeared like those you get from a gas station. They usually were delivered as frozen dough blanks and only were freshen on site. But the Hotel Director assured: if we did this, you would have no more storage room onboard.



Und etwas verwundert mich: die Brötchen wirken wie die von der Tankstelle, die als gefrorene Teigrohlinge geliefert und dort vor Ort aufgebacken werden. Aber der Hotel Direktor versichert mir: wenn man das machen würde, hätte man kein Stauraum mehr.

Es ist Schwarz und Weiß-Nacht. Wie bereits geschrieben: es stand nicht auf der Homepage. Die Essensauswahl ist heute sehr gut. Tolles Brot. Joe entfernt meine Hummerschale. Und Tyson serviert mit sehr viel Stil den Käse am Schluss. Insbesondere der Blue Stilton, der vom Portwein abgedeckt werden muss, um den Gestank zu vermeiden. Am Ausgang liegen die Speisekarten der Woche als Souvenir-Sets aus.



It was Black and White-Night. As written before: it was not on the website. The selection of food was tonight excellent. Great bread. Joe removed my lobster shell. And Tyson served with a lot of styles the cheese at the end. Especially the Blue Stilton which needed to be covered by Port to avoid the bad smell. At the exit, you could get a souvenir-set of the menu of the week.

There was still another problem: We should have Bouillabaisse. Again we had liquid mash potatoes with seafood flavor. It looked like a light diet for toothless people from a hospital. That was the Bouillabaisse on KONINGSDAM 2016 looked like in the Main Dining Room.



Ein Problem gibt es dennoch: Es sollte ja Bouillabaise geben. Schon wieder flüssiges Kartoffelpürree mit Meeresfrüchtegeschmack. Sie sieht aus, wie aus Schonessen für Zahnlose aus einem Krankenhaus. So sieht eine Bouillabaise auf der KONINGSDAM 2016 im Hauptrestaurant aus.

Und so auf der KONINGSDAM 2016 in einem Zuzahlrestaurant. Keinesfalls so gebunden, wie jetzt auf der VENTURA.



And on KONINGSDAM 2016 in an alternative dining venue. Definately not binded the way like here on VENTURA.

The early appearance would allow having the best seats. But not in the Havana Lounge. It was still kids' disco. Until everything was correctly set, everything was retaken. However what we did not understand: in front of the stage they had a podium which was used as a bar table. Very annoying. We had a performance of Beautiful World with an homage on Take That.



Frühzeitiges Erscheinen sichert die besten Plätze. Leider nicht in der Havana Lounge. Hier ist noch Kinderdisco. Und bis dass alles wieder korrekt aufstellt ist, ist wieder alles besetzt. Warum auch immer: direkt vor der Bühne steht ein Podest als Stehtisch. Total nervig. Es treten Beautiful World mit einer Hommage an Take That auf.

In der Kabine werden wir nach unserer Meinung gefragt.

Ich bekomme Post.

Meine E-Mail hat den Hoteldirektor erreicht. Er lädt mich zu einem persönlichen Gespräch ein. Es hat sich doch einiges angehäuft, was mich interessiert, was mich ärgert und was mich freut. Das würde ich ihm doch gerne persönlich sagen.



My email reached the Hotel Director. He invited me for a personal meeting. Some items accumulated, what I am interested to know more, what made me angry and what made me happy. Something I would like to tell him personally.

So sad that they did not have a box like here on NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2018. I found it very exemplary: easy access to the Hotel Director. Although I need to say: I had luck since, in contrast to BRITANNIA 2016 and GRAND PRINCESS 2018, I did not hear that I had to follow a protocol.



Schade, dass es nicht so eine Box gibt, wie hier auf der NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2018. Das finde ich persönlich sehr vorbildlich: ein einfacher Zugang zum Hoteldirektor. Wobei ich habe dieses Mal Glück: im Gegensatz zur BRITANNIA 2016 und GRAND PRINCESS 2018 habe ich bislang noch nicht gehört, dass ich dem Protokoll folgen muss.
