Tag/Day 5 auf der/on VENTURA in La Rochelle, France

Ich suche die Arztstation auf, um den Schwestern für ihre tolle Gesangs- und Tanzeinlage gestern Abend, auch Schokolade zu geben. Aber wie bereits am Vortag erwähnt: wegen eines medizinischen Notfalls, kann ich leider nicht mit denen sprechen.



I went to see the Medical Center, to thank the nurses for the beautiful vocal and dance performance last night and to give them some chocolate. But as said the day before: due to a medical emergency, I had no chance to talk with them.

Heading for breakfast. I need to introduce the team which tried their best to have a nice table for us: Dallo, Dorn, Nasir, and Lincoln. This morning I got my cranberry juice because I bought it myself before. They offered Kedgeree. I had to check what it was at all and I liked it at first attempt: why could not they offer it every day? With pleasure with chicken or veal or lamb. Somehow the plant at our table drove me wild, and I thought that the habit of the plant was not proper in public... Shame...



Auf zum Frühstück. Ich muss mal das Team vorstellen, die jeden Tag versucht, uns einen tollen Tisch zuzuweisen: Dallon, Dorn, Nasir und Lincoln. Heute Morgen bekomme ich einen Cranberry Saft, weil ich zuvor einen gekauft habe. Es gibt Kedgeree. Da muss ich erstmal nachschlagen, was das überhaupt ist und ich mag es auf Anhieb: warum gibt es das nicht jeden Tag? Vor mir aus auch gerne mit Hühnchen oder Kalb oder Lamm. Ich fühle mich allerdings etwas durch die Pflanze auf dem Tisch angemacht und ich finde so ein Verhalten in der Öffentlichkeit als unanständig... Schäm...

Das sieht aber ganz schön steil aus.

Wieder nur ein Stand vom Fremdenverkehrsbüro. Aber es werden gar keine Touren angeboten. Taxis sind allerdings verfügbar.



Again only a booth of the tourist office. But they did not offer any tours. Taxis were available.

We had a sweet reunion with ADONIA. Maybe we see her soon again as AZAMARA PERSUIT.



Eine schöne Wiederbegegnung mit der ADONIA. Vielleicht sehen wir sie ja bald als AZAMARA PERSUIT wieder.

Später, als wir wieder kommen gibt es eine Riesenschlange, weil sie die Brücken umsetzen mussten, weil sie sonst noch steiler geworden wären. Bevor wir aus dem Shuttlebus aussteigen, kommt aber schon jemand vorbei, der sich für die besonderen Umstände, entschuldigt. Im Schiff wird schon alles für das Einsammeln von Alkohol vorbereitet.



Later, when we returned, there was a huge waiting line, because they needed to move the bridges before they became steeper. Before we could leave the shuttle bus, somebody came by to explain and to apologize for the individual circumstances. In the ship, they prepared already for the collection of alcohol.

The shuttle terminated after 30 minutes at the intersection Avenue du Général de Gaulle/Quai de Marans.

Zurück geht die Warteschlange zwei Mal um die Ecke um den Block.

La Rochelle is the smallest of the ports of call: With every bus, which arrived, the city became crowded. The pink umbrellas reminded to the destinies of the victims of breast cancer. Unfortunately, we came too late for the market hall. Very sad. A modern garden gnome would not fit in our garden.



La Rochelle ist der kleinste der Häfen, die wir anlaufen: Mit jedem Bus, der ankommt, läuft die Innenstadt über. Die rosa Regenschirme erinnern an das Schicksal der Brustkrebsopfer. Leider kommen wir für die Markthalle zu spät. Sehr schade. Auch ein moderner Gartenzwerg passt nicht in unseren Garten.

Wir gehen ins Café de la Place, um eine Tasse Kaffee und ein Croissant einzunehmen.



We went to Café de la Place to have some coffee and a croissant.

Like usual in France, the bill came with a small plate, and you could leave some change as tip inside on the left.



Wie in Frankreich üblich, kommt die Rechnung auf einem Tellerchen, um darin das Trinkgeld am Tisch zu lassen.

Bei Mobilboard buchen wir eine kurze Tour. Leider gibt es wohl keine Einigkeit über den Beginn der Tour. Hätten wir gewusst, dass es doch sehr spät anfängt (uns wurde zunächst eine andere Zeit genannt, die dann zwei Mal nach hinten verschoben wurde), in den 30 Minuten auch noch die Übungszeit für die Gruppe dabei ist und das die Leiterin der Tour keine Lust hatte, mal abzusteigen, um den kleinen Mädchen auf dem E-Scooter (weil sie noch nicht Segway fahren darf) zu zeigen, wie man vorwärts kommt, das zu erheblichen Frust geführt hat, hätten wir auf die Tour verzichtet. Sonst ist die Tour sehr nett.



With Mobilboard, we booked a short tour. Unfortunately, there was no unity at the beginning of the tour. Should we know before, that it would start much later (we were told a different time, which was postponed two times), we might cancel the tour. Same was because the exercise of the group was part of the 30 minutes and the guide was not willing to descend and to show the little girl on the e-scooter (because she was not allowed to use a Segway) how to ride forward, which became very frustrating for all. Apart from that, the tour was lovely.

After the tour, we really would love to eat with Le P'tit Nicolas. One reason: as a pupil, I needed to read "Little Nicholas" of René Goscinny (who also wrote Asterix) and Jean-Jacques Sempé.



Nach der Tour hätten wir gerne bei Le P'tit Nicolas gegessen. Ein Grund: als Schüler musste ich "Der kleine Nick" von René Goscinny (hat auch Asterix geschrieben) und Jean-Jacques Sempé.

Der zweite Grund: ein Teil des Stammbaums von Bruno sind die Nicolas. Leider sind sie komplett ausgebucht.



A second reason: a part of Bruno's family tree were the Nicolas. Unfortunately, they were completely booked.

The next alternative was Bistrot Au La Rochelle who had excellent reviews, but everything was dark.



Die nächste Alternative Bistrot Au La Rochelle hat sehr gute Kritiken, aber es ist alles dunkel.

Aber dann gehen wir einmal um die Ecke und haben Glück. Am Morgen hat die Mitarbeiterin vom Fremdenverkehrsbüro spontan die Bar André genannt, um sehr gut Meeresfrüchte zu essen. Es ist ein tolles Restaurant mit sehr freundlicher Bedienung. Ein Paradies für Liebhaber historischer Kreuzfahrtschiffe. Ein Paradies von Thunfisch-Tartars, frischen Salaten und Muscheln. Und alles frisch - auch zum Verkauf. Der Besuch und das Essen machen sehr viel Spaß.



So we went around the corner and had luck. In the morning we asked an agent of the tourist office and she mentioned Bar André spontaneously as must go place for seafood. It was a great restaurant with very friendly waiters. It was paradise for lovers of historical cruise ships. It was paradise for tuna-tartare, fresh salads, and mussels. And everything was fresh - and also for sale. The visit and the food made a lot of pleasure.

Again due to the recommendation of the agent of the tourist office: D'Jolly as best pastry shop of the town. For a coffee-éclair, I would really let everything go. And for Bruno raspberries were his decision-makers.



Wieder auf Empfehlung derselben Mitarbeiterin des Fremdenverkehrsbüros: D'Jolly als beste Patisserie der Stadt. Für ein Kaffee-Liebesknochen lasse ich alles stehen und liegen. Und bei Bruno entscheiden die Himbeeren.

We checked again for cruises, which should not depart out of Southampton, England, like from Valetta, Malta. Here, the flight was always included from Great Britain.



Wir gucken nochmals wegen Kreuzfahrten, die nicht ab Southampton gehen: z. B. ab Valetta. Hier ist immer der Flug ab Großbritannien inkludiert.

Aber in der Tat ist es dann günstiger, wenn man sie in Deutschland bucht. Das kann jetzt ggfls. für Kreuzfahrten ab Dubai interessant sein, weil sie ja auch nach Indien und länger als eine Woche gehen.



So it was cheaper to book in Germany. So it might be very interesting for cruises out of Dubai, U.A.E. because they should go to India too and last longer than one week.

During the evening, we turned back to La Rochelle due to a medical emergency. Should we also could call St. Nazaire?



Im Laufe des Abends drehen wir aufgrund des medizinischen Notfalls wieder nach La Rochelle zurück. Hätte man auch nicht auch St. Nazaire anlaufen können?

Very angry: someone threw his cigarette butt over the railing, and it landed on our balcony.



Sehr ärgerlich: einer hat seine Zigarettenkippe über die Railing geworfen und landet auf unserem Balkon.

Für den Abend haben wir in The Epicurean gebucht. Als wir ankommen, ist unsere Reservierung nicht bekannt. Wir werden in der Lounge platziert und erst dann wir ein Tisch hergerichtet. Auch bekommen wir keinen angefragten Tisch mit Melanie, die uns allerdings zwischendurch mal bedient. Es ist so ziemlich die letzte Bastion (von den Schiffen im Massenmarkt), an der noch einzelne Gerichte am Tisch zubereitet wird, was ja bei vielen Kreuzfahrtgesellschaften abgeschafft wurde. Für meinen Hauptgang hätte ich mir einen größeren Teller für die Tischabfälle gewünscht, weil die Dinger einfach riesig waren. Es wird auch noch live flambiert, was bei US-Gesellschaften unüblich ist. Zwischendurch gibt es Sorbet-Lollies und am Schluss noch ein paar Leckerlis. Mary und Rhea bieten uns einen exzellenten Service.



For the night we booke The Epicurean. When we arrived, our reservation was unknown. We were placed in the lounge area, and they had to set up a table. So we did not get the requested table with Melanie, who came to serve us in between. It was the last bastion (within the mass market ships), where they were preparing selected dishes right at the table, which was withdrawn with many cruise lines. For my entree, I wished I could get a larger plate for the waste at the table, as the pieces were gigantic. They also flambéd live, what was not meanwhile common anymore with US-companies. Between the courses, they served sherbet-lollies and finally some goodies. Mary and Rhea provided an excellent service.

Later we saw too: others had reservation reminders at their cabin door.



Später sehen wir auch: andere haben Buchungserinnerungen an der Kabinentür.

Wir haben so etwas nicht bekommen. Das erklärt wohl, dass unsere Reservierung wohl verloren gegangen ist.



We did not get something like that. It would explain, that our reservation was lost.

For the end of the day, we went to the show of the Goldstone. Because one of the three microphones was not set properly, it was fun to watch but not always to listen. The selection of the pieces of music met my taste.



Zum Schluss des Tages geht es in die Show von Goldstone. Weil aber einer der drei Mikrofone nicht richtig ausgesteuert ist, macht das Zusehen Spaß aber nicht immer das Zuhören. Die Auswahl der Stücke entspricht meinem Geschmack.
