Frühstück im Club-Restaurant: Zusätzlich zu den Mini-Brötchen vom Abendessen gibt es noch ein paar Scheiben Vollkornbrot. Neben dem Büffet erwartet uns hier eine schöne morgendliche Ruhe. Die warmen Sachen werden hier à la carte bestellt.

We always appreciate the friendly service provided by Shibinlal, Sachin, and Marcos. Unfortunately, the barstools have been removed. You are only allowed to consume drinks while standing, even when the pizzeria is empty (or, in my case, occupied by only three tables). A member of the restaurant management team gave me the response: "It is like it is!" In other words, they would rather guard empty tables than let a guest drink an espresso at one. I wanted a Virgin Mary, but unfortunately, it was only available as a "hardcore DIY kit" that you had to assemble yourself.

Wir freuen uns immer über den freundlichen Service von Shibinlal, Sachin und Marcos. Leider haben Sie hier die Barhocker demontiert. Man darf leider nur im Stehen konsumieren, auch wenn die Pizzeria komplett leer ist (in meinem Fall mit drei Tischen belegt). Ich bekam als Antwort von einem Mitglied der Restaurantleitung: "It is like it is!" D.h. lieber leere Tische bewachen als einen Gast einen Espresso an einem Tisch trinken lassen. Ich wollte gerne eine Virgin Mary. Leider nur als Hardcore-Bausatz zum Selberbasteln.MyItalian Genusspaket - eine Zauberformel für eine Zeitreise für ausgewachsene Männer. Abgesehen davon, dass es hier leckeren Kaffee gibt (leider keine anderen Getränke), findet man im Eiscafé Amarillo noch leckeres Eis. Zu Hause esse ich eigentlich nicht so viel Eis, aber hier holt man sich ein Eis, setzt sich in die Ecke und ist wieder in seiner Kindheit. Es ging aber nicht nur mir so. Auch die anderen fühlen sich genauso wie ich.

Aside from the delicious coffee (though, unfortunately, no other beverages are served), the Amarillo ice cream parlor offers tasty ice cream. I don’t usually eat much ice cream at home, but here, you grab a scoop, sit in the corner, and find yourself back in your childhood. It wasn’t just me, though; everyone else felt the same way.C-Dreams is the onboard travel agency. Linda and I listen in as other guests explain what they are expecting: to book an inside cabin and be guaranteed a balcony cabin. The answer was no. What about booking an outside cabin and getting a balcony cabin? Well, they had heard from others that this was the standard practice at Costa when booking onboard. We find these unrealistic expectations amusing. By chance, I've come across another interesting cruise around the Italian "boot." At the time of booking in Germany, the trip cost us 1,514 EUR. Back then, the "MyItalian" indulgence package wasn't included in the German offer. Onboard, we are getting this trip for 1,290 EUR in an aft cabin, including the "MyItalian" package and social media Wi-Fi access. As I write this blog post, the price is 1,400 EUR, including the "MyItalian" package but without Wi-Fi access. I had considered potentially rebooking later on. But that's when I learned a lesson: Costa isn't MSC. Being a club member doesn't guarantee a discount on every cruise.
C-Dreams ist das Bordreisebüro. Hier hören wir gemeinsam mit Linda zu, was die anderen Gäste erwarten: eine Innenkabine zu buchen und eine Balkonkabine garantiert zu bekommen. Es hieß nein. Und eine Außenkabine buchen und eine Balkonkabine bekommen? Nun, sie hätten von anderen gehört, dass das der Standard bei Costa wäre, wenn man an Bord bucht. Wir amüsieren uns über die unrealistischen Erwartungen. Zufällig habe ich mal wieder eine interessante Kreuzfahrt um den italienischen Stiefel gefunden. Die Reise hat uns in Deutschland zum Zeitpunkt der Buchung 1514 EUR gekostet. Damals gab es das MyItalian Genusspaket in Deutschland nicht mit dazu. Wir bekommen diese Reise an Bord für 1290 EUR in einer Heckkabine inkl. MyItalian Genusspaket und WLAN-Zugang für Social Media. Zum Zeitpunkt, zu dem ich am Blog arbeite, sind es 1400 EUR inkl. MyItalian Genusspaket aber ohne WLAN-Zugang. Ich hätte später in Erwägung gezogen, ggf. umzubuchen. Aber da musste ich lernen: Costa ist nicht MSC. Als Clubmitglied erhält man nicht auf allen Reisen Rabatte.Facebook weiß ja, dass ich eine gewisse Ader für Maritimes habe. Ich arbeite für eine Reederei, höre sehr gerne Claude Trenets "La mer" und bin überzeugter Kreuzfahrer. So streuen sie Werbung für die T-Shirts mit Signalflaggen, und dann wird hier Bruno "buchstabiert". Wir testen später ein paar Offiziere an einer Kaffeebar, ob sie das lesen können. Nicht alles, aber einige Buchstaben. Es stellte sich heraus, dass sie nicht aus der nautischen Abteilung stammen.

So, they slip in ads for T-shirts featuring signal flags — and that’s how "Bruno" gets spelled out here. Later, we test a few officers at a coffee bar to see if they can read it—not the whole thing, just a few letters. It turns out they aren't from the nautical department.A few ferries are passing by, and there are white chalk cliffs. We must be near Dover, England. So, we clearly set off from Southampton at a much slower pace; otherwise, we would have had to dock in Zeebrugge, Belgium, as early as this morning.
Es fahren ein paar Fähren und es gibt Kreidefelsen. Wir müssen in der Nähe von Dover sein. Wir sind also deutlich langsamer in Southampton losgefahren, sonst hätten wir ja heute Morgen bereits in Zeebrugge anlegen müssen.
Irgendwie habe ich Pech: Auf der COSTA DELIZIOSA 2025 fand Aqua-Gym nicht statt und heute fand es auch nicht statt. Aufgrund des Wellengangs gab es das Angebot nicht. Aber der Trainer sagt niemandem Bescheid. So gehe ich aus dem Pool und frage, ob er für den Kurs zuständig ist. Ich fasse das Gespräch zusammen: Er sah keine Notwendigkeit, die Kunden zu informieren. Handyaktivitäten sind ein perfekter Ersatz für einen ausgefallenen Kurs. Für den Kursleiter. Somehow, I’m out of luck: aqua aerobics didn’t take place on COSTA DELIZIOSA 2025, and it didn’t happen today either. The session was canceled due to the swell, yet the instructor didn’t let anyone know. So I got out of the pool and asked if he was in charge of the class. To sum up the conversation: he saw no need to inform the guests. After all, playing on one’s phone is a perfect substitute for a canceled class — for the instructor, that is.The head chef pointed out that they have created something special in the self-service restaurant. But I couldn't quite make out what he meant by that.

Aber ich konnte nicht so genau erkennen, was er damit meinte.Wir gehen ins Club-Restaurant zum Mittagessen: Hühnercremesuppe. Einfach lecker. Könnte ich zum Frühstück, zum 2. Frühstück, zum Mittagessen, zur Tea-Time, zum Abendessen oder als Betthupferl essen? Das Antipasti-Büffet ist auch jetzt wieder total genial. Dafür könnte ich Costa lieben.
We’re heading to the club restaurant for lunch: cream of chicken soup. Simply delicious. Could I eat it for breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, tea time, dinner, or as a bedtime snack? The antipasti buffet is absolutely brilliant again, too. That alone makes me love Costa.The atrium, with its blue color scheme, is truly impressive.

Sushino’s menu distinguishes between lunch and dinner. This is also reflected in the all-you-can-eat offer. We didn’t try the steakhouse. Das Angebot von Sushino unterscheidet zwischen Mittag- und Abendessen. Das spiegelt sich auch im All-You-Can-Eat-Angebot wider. Before dinner, we’re going to see Gisèle and Daniel’s show. It strongly reminds me of the crossover combination of Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé.We head to the Teppanyaki restaurant after the Archipel has closed. We're lucky to be such a small group. Having been to the Teppanyaki before, we know the show is good. The food could be better, but we pay significantly less here than at the American-style venues. Unfortunately, the lobster here is a letdown, too. Biologically speaking, it certainly belongs to the lobster family, but I'd say they must have kidnapped it straight from the gym — it was that lean and tough. Above all, unlike at the other restaurants, they didn't remove the shell. Still, we really enjoy the service provided by Wilson, Armando, and Adriana.
Wir gehen zum Teppanyaki, nachdem das Archipel geschlossen hat. Wir haben Glück, dass wir nur eine sehr kleine Runde sind. Da wir schon öfter beim Teppanyaki waren, ist die Show gut. Das Essen könnte besser sein, aber hier zahlen wir deutlich weniger als bei den Amerikanern. Den Lobster hier kann man leider auch vergessen. Biologisch gesehen zählt er bestimmt zur Gattung der Hummer, allerdings würde ich sagen, dass sie ihn aus dem Fitnessstudio entführt haben. So mager und fest wie er war. Vor allem aber: Sie haben, im Gegensatz zu den anderen, die Schale nicht entfernt. Dennoch genießen wir den Service von Wilson, Armando und Adriana sehr.Um 23:00 Uhr wird noch etwas an Bord geboten, das viele andere Gesellschaften bereits ersatzlos abgeschafft haben. So eine Art Mitternachtsbüffet. Er durfte von oben nur gucken und fotografieren, und dann durften alle runter zum Essen. Ich hatte keinen Hunger und bin daher erst später runtergegangen, als wieder die Hälfte der Besucher weg war und Durchkommen gab. So bin ich immer wieder erstaunt, welche menschlichen Abgründe ich in 60 Jahren bisher noch nicht kannte. Leute, die sich nicht mal die Mühe machen, sich etwas auf einen Teller zu packen und zu einem Tisch zu gehen. Zum Teil wird einfach alles mit den Fingern angefasst, abgebissen und, wenn es nicht schmeckt, wieder auf den Tisch gelegt. Es war bunt, aber nicht unbedingt anspruchsvoll. Es wurde eher etwas fürs Auge als fürs Gaumenschmaus geboten. Der Meeresfrüchtesalat, der auf Muschelschalen angerichtet war, dürfte das hochwertigste gewesen sein. Sehr viel Fingerfood - evtl. Eben Convenience. ABER BITTE NICHT VERGESSEN: Wir haben auch nicht die Preise bezahlt, die wir an Bord von Azamara zahlen, um am White-Nights-Buffet teilzunehmen. Und dennoch fand ich es schön, dass es eben mit so einer Tradition fortgeführt wurde.
At 23:00 hrs, the ship offered something that many other cruise lines have already discontinued without replacement: a sort of midnight buffet. Passengers were initially allowed only to look and take photos from the deck above; then, everyone was permitted to go down to eat. I wasn't hungry, so I went down later, once half the crowd had left, and there was actually room to move. It never ceases to amaze me — the depths of human behavior I've encountered over the last 60 years. Some people couldn't even be bothered to put food on a plate and take it to a table. Some handled everything with their bare hands, took bites, and — if they didn't like it — put the food back on the table. It was a colorful spread, though not exactly sophisticated; it was more of a feast for the eyes than a culinary delight. The seafood salad, served in seashells, was likely the highest-quality item. There was a lot of finger food — essentially convenience products. But let's not forget: we didn't pay the kind of prices we would on an Azamara cruise to attend a "White Nights" buffet. Even so, I appreciated that they kept this tradition alive.
