Als ich aufwache, sehe ich, dass wir schon längst in Kiel beim Einlaufen sind. Schade, dass ich das Marinedenkmal in Laboe und die Schleuse in Holtenau verpasst habe. Aber noch Zeit zu erleben, wie es langsam immer heller wird. Immer wieder schön. Und vor allem, wenn es so schön ist wie in Kiel.
When I wake up, I see that we are already well into our arrival in Kiel. It’s a shame I missed the Naval Memorial in Laboe and the Holtenau locks. But there is still time to watch the light gradually grow brighter—something that is always lovely, and especially so when the setting is as beautiful as Kiel.We were here for the maiden voyage of MSC EURIBIA 2023. So it’s nice to see her again. She has just returned from the Arabian Gulf after being stuck there for weeks. It’s great that she is available for cruises once more.
Wir waren damals auf der ersten Reise der MSC EURIBIA 2023 hier. Daher ist es schön, sie wiederzusehen. Sie ist gerade aus dem Arabischen Golf zurück, nachdem sie dort wochenlang feststeckend war. Schön, dass sie wieder für Reisen zur Verfügung steht.Da ich ja eh schon um 04:45 Uhr auf bin, gucke ich mal, was es im SB-Restaurant gibt. Aber ich kann irgendwie nicht feststellen, dass mich das Angebot reizt. AUch hier gibt es keine hochwertigen Sachen wie Lachs. Sonst aber typisch eben Costa. Um 05:56 Uhr wollte ich gerne eine Scheibe Toast. Draußen am Pooldeck. Während andere bereits mit den Händen zugreifen, frage ich nach einer Zange. Mir wird mitgeteilt, dass sie erst um 06:00 Uhr öffnet. Ich gehe rein, um ein Stück Brot zu holen, aber man muss ziemlich weit laufen, bis man eine Brotstation findet. Als ich wieder rauskomme, sagt ein Kollege ihr, dass sie doch endlich die Zangen rausnehmen soll.
Since I’m up at 04:45 hrs anyway, I decide to see what’s on offer at the self-service restaurant. Somehow, though, nothing really appeals to me. There are no high-end items like salmon here, either—it’s just typical Costa fare. At 05:56 hrs, I want a slice of toast out on the pool deck. While other people are already helping themselves with their bare hands, I ask for a pair of tongs. I’m told that the service doesn’t start until 06:00 hrs. I go inside to get a piece of bread, but it’s quite a walk to find a bread station. When I come back out, a colleague tells the staff member she really ought to put the tongs out.We could have had breakfast as early as 06:30 hrs. We are registering our friends at the club restaurant again so that we can disembark together. I love the option of paying for some peace. Incidentally, there is another place where you can dine in peace — at least in the evening. Part of the self-service restaurant transforms into the Corona Blu Restaurant at night, offering table service and the same dinner menu.
Wir hätten bereits ab 06:30 Uhr frühstücken können. Wir melden unsere Freunde wieder im Clubrestaurant an, damit wir gemeinsam von Bord gehen können. Die Möglichkeit, für Ruhe zu zahlen, begeistert mich. Es gibt übrigens noch einen Ort, an dem man zumindest abends in Ruhe essen kann. Ein Teil des SB-Restaurants wird abends in das Corona Blu Restaurant umgewandelt. Mit Service am Platz und identischer Abendkarte.
A sign that I'm in a good mood: voluntarily putting myself in the hands of an onboard photographer. But the Vespa as a subject wouldn't leave me alone.
Ein Zeichen dafür, dass ich gut drauf bin: wenn ich mich freiwillig in die Hände eines Bordfotografen gebe. Aber die Vespa als Motiv hat mir keine Ruhe gelassen.

Das Programm kam ja gestern Abend zu spät. Von den anderen Gesellschaften kennen wir ja eher, dass die Information z.T. bereits am vorletzten Abend kommt. Aber so wie es hier gelaufen ist. Wir sollen die Kabinen bereits um 07:00 Uhr räumen. So fehlt auch der Hinweis darauf, dass es eine Gepäckaufbewahrung für Handgepäck gibt.
The schedule arrived too late last night. With other cruise lines, we’re used to getting the information as early as the second-to-last evening. But the way things went here, we’re supposed to vacate our cabins by 07:00 hrs. There’s also no mention of the fact that luggage storage is available for hand luggage.
The last time we were here at the Ostuferhafen — aboard MSC EURIBIA 2023 — we were taken to the "terminal" by bus. This time, however, everyone has to walk to the terminal unaccompanied, crossing paths with trucks along the way. Fortunately, the weather is nice, though the walkway to the terminal isn't covered the whole way. Someone even collapses en route; the combination of struggling with hand luggage and having limited mobility necessitates calling for first aid. Chaos ensues after the immigration check. We were lied to by the reception staff again, just as we were back on COSTA FAVOLOSA 2017: naturally, the luggage isn't in the baggage hall at 05:30 hrs. There is no designated space for our color-coded group, so our bags have been stowed wherever there is room. No one can give us any information about it; most of the staff work at the Ostseekai terminal and can't say much beyond that they are on duty there. One staff member arrives later, helps us search, and apologizes. She emphasizes once again that this is an exceptional situation — no one could have imagined that such a massive amount of luggage would be unloaded from a transatlantic voyage. Beim letzten Mal, als wir mit der MSC EURIBIA 2023 hier im Ostuferhafen waren, wurden wir mit einem Bus zum "Terminal" gefahren. Hier müssen alle unbegleitet zu Fuß zum Terminal laufen. Zwischendurch queren LKWs die Wege. Zum Glück ist es schönes Wetter. Aber der Gang zum Terminal ist nicht durchgehend überdacht. Es bricht sogar jemand unterwegs zusammen: keine Kraft für das Handgepäck und gleichzeitig Mobilitätseinschränkung – das führt dazu, dass man die Erste Hilfe rufen muss. Nach der Einreisekontrolle kommt es zum Chaos. Wir wurden wieder von der Rezeption belogen, so wie damals auf der COSTA FAVOLOSA 2017: Natürlich ist das Gepäck nicht um 05:30 Uhr in der Gepäckhalle. Für unsere Farben gibt es keinen Platz. Daher wird unser Gepäck dahin gepackt, wo Platz ist. Niemand kann uns dazu etwas sagen. Die meisten arbeiten sonst am Ostseekai und können daher wenig sagen, außer dass sie Wache stehen. Eine kommt später, hilft beim Suchen und entschuldigt sich. Sie betont nochmals, dass es eine Ausnahmesituation sei und niemand sich vorstellen könne, dass so viel Gepäck von einer Transatlantik heruntergeladen werde.Taxi Kiel hatte auch kein Großraumtaxi für mich. Und wieder ist es Mare Taxi, das mir sofort einen Wagen bestätigt, wie damals bei DELPHIN 2009. Wir müssen zur Autovermietung Enterprise, die direkt am Hauptbahnhof liegt. Komischerweise meldeten sich zwei Fahrer und es hieß, dass schon alles bezahlt sei. Ich blicke nicht mehr durch.
Taxi Kiel didn’t have a large-capacity taxi for me either. And once again, it was Mare Taxi that immediately confirmed a vehicle for me — just like back on DELPHIN 2009. We needed to get to the Enterprise car rental office, located right at the central station. Oddly enough, two drivers got in touch, and I was told that everything had already been paid for. I can’t make heads or tails of it anymore.
Auf der QUEEN VICTORIA 2025 haben wir Philipp und Stefan kennengelernt. Philipp muss arbeiten. So essen wir gemeinsam mit Stefan (Philipps Stefan) in Hamburg zu Mittag. Ich freue mich daher immer über neue Freunde. Unsere Freunde Stefan (Martins Stefan) und Martin setzen wir dann in Goslar aus und fahren schnell weiter nach Hause. Einige größere Probleme erwarten mich im Büro, und ich möchte gerne früher zurück sein, um ggf. am Wochenende aktiv werden zu können. Es war eine schöne Fahrt: gerne jederzeit wieder - mit allen von denen.
We met Philipp and Stefan on QUEEN VICTORIA 2025. Philipp has to work, so we have lunch in Hamburg with Stefan (Philipp’s Stefan) instead. I always love making new friends. We then drop off our friends Stefan (Martin’s Stefan) and Martin in Goslar and quickly drive home. Some major issues await me at the office, and I want to get back early so I can take action over the weekend if necessary. It was a lovely trip—I’d gladly do it again anytime with all of them.
Bei Kassel sind wir in Hessen zurück: Hinten sehen wir das Herkules-Denkmal im Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe. Gerne hätte ich hier noch übernachtet, aber das müssen wir auf ein anderes Mal verschieben.
We are back in Hesse, near Kassel; in the background, we can see the Hercules Monument in Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe. I would have loved to spend the night here, but we’ll have to save that for another time.
