Tag/Day 4 auf der/on VISTA SKY in Miltenberg - Wertheim, Germany

Ich wache auf und frage mich: wieviele Schleusen hast du wohl "verschlafen". Manchmal muss ja eine Nacht darüber schlafen, aber ich hasse immer noch die Schleusen. Ich hoffe, dass ich möglichst viele "verschlafen" habe.



I wake up and ask myself: how many locks have you "overslept". Sometimes I have to sleep over it for a night, but I still would not say I like the locks. I hope that I "overslept" as many as possible.

Since I am not allowed on the sun deck, I decide to walk in the panorama salon. I could always go to the cabin corridor on one floor and back again on the other level. But I do not want to bother anyone. There is only the restaurant under the salon.



Da ich ja nicht auf das Sonnendeck darf, beschließe ich im Panorama-Salon zu laufen. Ich könnte ja auch immer im Kabinengang auf einer Etage hin und auf der anderen Etage wieder zurück. Aber ich will niemanden stören. Unter dem Salon ist ja nur das Restaurant.

Wie auf den Hochseeschiffen oder an Land: ich habe meine Musik dabei und laufe los. Wenn ich etwas schönes sehe, kann ich eben an Steuerbordseine am Bug schnell mal raus und fotografieren.

So sehr ich über alle verpasste Schleusen freue, so sehr ärgere ich mich über den "Filmriss" bei der Landschaft, der mir fehlt. Ich sehe Nebel über dem Main. Das sieht mystisch aus: wieviele kleiner Wolken über dem Wasser habe ich verpasst? Irgendwie war es schöner, dass wir die letzten zwei Nächte stehend verbracht hatten. Ich hatte nicht das Gefühl, etwas versäumt zu haben. Vielleicht ist ja der Main nicht so attraktiv wie der Rhein. Wir müssen wieder kommen, mit dem Schiff, mit dem Auto oder mit dem Fahrrad. Wir wohnen ja nicht so weit weg.



As much as I am happy about all the missed locks, I am annoyed about the "film tear" in the landscape that I miss. I see fog over the river Main. It looks mystical: how many small clouds over the water did I miss? Somehow it was more beautiful that we spent the last two nights docking. I did not feel like I missed anything. Maybe the river Main is not as attractive as the river Rhine. We have to come back, by boat, by car or by bike. We do not live that far away.

Arrival in Miltenberg, Germany. The next but one county from us. But already in Bavaria - better Franconia. We even could get home by our regional transport association VRN on eTicket based on aerial distance.



Ankunft in Miltenberg. Der übernächste Kreis von uns aus. Aber schon in Bayern - besser Franken. Wir kämen sogar zum eTarif nach Luftlinien-Entfernung mit unseren Verbundkarten vom VRN nach Hause.

Wo sind wir? Immer noch auf der VISTA SKY? Waren Außerirdische hier, die die Körper der Crew übernommen haben? Zumindest sieht es nach den selben Crewmitgliedern aus, die wir schon kennen. Nach dem es gestern ja einen Schritt zurückgegangen ist, sind heute wieder zwei Schritte vorwärts möglich. Am Tisch stehen Butter und Brotaufstriche.

Auch steht etwas Frühstücksgebäck am Tisch. Für einen ersten Bissen reicht es um hugrige Mägen ruhig zu stellen.

Da wir recht lange hier stehen und wir erst für den Nachmittag einen Ausflug gebucht haben, laufe ich zunächst mal kurz durch die Stadt. Ich nutze die Chance ein paar Kleinigkeiten zu besorgen und bekomme auch spontan einen Termin für eine Maniküre. Nägel schneiden könnte ich auchs selbst, aber mit Nagelhaut entfernen und Handmassage finde ich es einfach schöner. In der Stadt treffe ich auch auf Brunos Eltern und Bruno läuft auch herum und besorgt sich auch ein paar frische Beeren. Ich habe ja wieder einen Kirschstand leergekauft.

I feel sorry for them: they have to work at night when you can get in and out of the locks. They are so humble and do not want me to mention them by name. They say they are just doing their job. They are just as important to me as the captain. He would not be able to steer the ship without help.



In Miltenberg und später in Wertheim entstehen wieder Außenaufnahmen von MEINER VISTA SKY. Drei der vier Matrosen bekomme ich auf das Bild. Sie tun mir leid: sie müssen auch nachts arbeiten, wenn es rein und raus aus den Schleusen geht. Sie sind so bescheiden und möchten nicht, dass ich sie namentlich erwähne. Sie sagen, dass sie nur ihren Job machen. Für mich sind sie genauso wichtig, wie der Kapitän. Der würde ohne Hilfe auch das Schiff nicht steuern können.

Auch wenn Ramona anscheinend immer dann arbeitet, wenn wir nicht in der Nähe unserer Kabine sehen, bemerken wir doch ihren aufmerksamen Service, den sie uns bietet... Mein T-Shirt wurde schön zusammengelegt... Mal gucken, was passiert, wenn ich ein Hemd ohne Knopf und Nadel und Faden auf dem Bett liegen lasse... Sie hat ein großes Herz und würde mich nie mit einem fehlenden Knopf aus meiner Kabine lassen... Ich teste es beim nächsten Mal!

Ich habe die Folie vor der Klimaanlage so angebracht, dass die kühle Luft wie bei einer Trockenhaube nach unten geleitet wird. Also stelle ich mich kurz darunter, um mich abzukühlen.

So it would be "best" if they disposed of them in front of the cabin door. Also, they have likely processed their lace panties into mouth and nose protection masks. They are usually very inconsiderate when you meet them ashore.



Neben dem "Laserpointer-Jedi-Ritter" würde ich noch ein paar "Vorstadtweiber", die sich wie "Desperate Housewives" verhalten, in das Schlauchboot mit aussetzen. Sie sind Dauerraucher, aber weil das Sonnendeck nicht auf ist, müssen sie im Außentreppenhaus rauchen. Dort ist aber der Frischlufteinzug der Klimaanlage. Je nach Windrichtung riecht es in unserer Kabine auch so, als sie direkt bei uns rauchen würden. Außerdem rennen sie zum Teil barfuß von der Kabine in die Bar und schleppen alles was kostenlos und nicht niet und nagelfest ist, in ihre Kabine und entsorgen es wie in einem amerikanischen Billig-Motel. Dort stellt man ganze Tabletts vor die Tür, weil man wenig Platz hat, aber hier reden wir über 25 cm²... die zwei Schälchen übereinander nehmen wohl zuviel Platz, dass man sie einfach vor der Kabinentür entsorgt. Außerdem haben sie wohl ihr Spitzenunterhöschen zu Mund-Nasenschutz-Masken verarbeitet. Sie sind meistens sehr rücksichtslos, wenn man ihnen auch an Land begegnet.

Mittags steht auch der Vista Grill für ein "leichtes" Mittagessen zur Verfügung. In intimer Atmosphäre. Hier nutzen wir die 1. Tischzeit, weil es besser in unsere Ausflugspläne passt. Beim leichten Mittagessen werden lediglich die drei Hauptgänge durch Baguette-Sandwiches bzw. ein Pastagericht ersetzt. Bei den zwei Mittagessen, die wir hier mitmachen, gibt es jedoch beides Mal die gleichen Sandwich-Angebote.



At lunchtime, the Vista Grill is also available for a "light" lunch. In an intimate atmosphere. Here we use the first table time because it fits better into our excursion plans. When driver Willi notices that Bruno's parents could not go so far in the morning to see the highlights in Miltenberg, in the end, he insists on taking a short drive through the historic old town on the way back to the ship. The taxi company has a special permit, and so Bruno's parents see a little more of Miltenberg. Even the "Staffelbrunserbrunnen": Manneken Pis (Little peeing man fountain in Brussels, Belgium) times three and much more significant than back then after the GRAND PRINCESS 2011, when we showed American friends in Brussels, Belgium, they turned bright red. Willi tells us that today's Schlosshotel Mespelbrunn is the film set of the German movie "Das Wirtshaus im Spessart" (The Inn in the Spessart Highlands - 1958 with Liselotte Pulver (maybe known in Billy Wilder's "One, Two, Three" and the Argentinian actor Carlos Thompson).



Über das Schiff wird ein Ausflug nach Schloss Mespelbrunn angeboten, aber da ich nicht auf solche Touren stehe, bei dem ich später warten muss, dass 40 Leute von der Toilette zurück sind und Postkarten gekauft haben, habe ich zwar dankend die Anregung für den Ausflug dahin angenommen, aber ein rollstuhlgeeignetes Fahrzeug von Taxi7177 bestellt. Als Fahrer Willi mitbekommt, dass Brunos Eltern am Morgen nicht so weit gehen konnten, um die Höhepunkte in Miltenberg zu sehen, lässt er es sich am Schluss nicht nehmen, auf dem Weg zurück zum Schiff kurz durch die historische Altstadt zu fahren. Das Taxiunternehmen hat eine Ausnahmegenehmigung und so sehen Brunos Eltern doch ein wenig mehr von Miltenberg. Sogar den "Staffelbrunserbrunnen": Manneken Pis mal drei und sehr viel größer als damals nach der GRAND PRINCESS 2011, als wir in Brüssel amerikanischen Freunden das gezeigt haben und sie knallrot angelaufen sind. Willi weißt uns darauf hin, dass das heutige Schlosshotel Mespelbrunn tatsächlich der Drehort des Filmes "Das Wirtshaus im Spessart" (1958 von Kurt Hoffmann mit Liselotte Pulver und Carlos Thompson) ist.

Ich gebe zu, als ich Wasserschloss gelesen habe, dachte ich mehr an den Peterhof in St. Petersburg wie bei der NORWEGIAN GETAWAY 2016-Reise oder auch an Villa d'Este in Tivoli bei Rom vor unserer OCEAN PRINCESS 2011-Reise. Nun gut: mit solchen Erwartungen sollte man Schloss Mespelbrunn nicht entgegentreten. Es ist klein, niedlich und nett. Loriot hätte gesagt: das sieht sehr übersichtlich aus. Die Außenanlagen sind ganz nett. Vor allem heute, weil wohl eine Influencerin aus Osteuropa dabei war, die sich sehr gut in Szene setze und wohl live über Instagramm, YouTube, TicToc oder sonst etwas live übertragen hat. Sie war auf jeden Fall nicht vom Schiff. Sie wäre sonst schon aufgefallen. Dadurch wurde es während der Wartezeit auf unseren Führer nicht langweilig. Feste Tourzeiten gibt es nicht, aber es wird auch nicht gewartet, dass die Maximalzahl einer Gruppe erreicht wird. Wegen Covid-19 dürfen wir in den Garten statt in die oberen Räumichkeiten.

Especially today, because there was probably an influencer from Eastern Europe who put herself in the limelight and perhaps broadcast it live via Instagram, YouTube, TicToc, or something else. She was not from the ship. Otherwise, she would attract our attention. It kept us from getting boring while waiting for our guide. There are no fixed tour times, but there is no wait for the maximum number of a group to be reached. Because of Covid-19, we are allowed into the garden instead of the upper rooms.

The entrance fee was only 5.50 EUR (2020 - 6.00 USD) and for the handicapped 2.50 EUR (2020 - 3.00 USD).

Der 3. Plamen in meinem Leben. Zwei kenne ich noch von unserer Reise auf der NORWEGIAN SUN 2019: der Chef-Ingenieur und unser Mitreisender. Daher weiß ich, dass es ein bulgarischer Name ist. Und jetzt endlich mal sehe ich ein vollständiges Gesicht: die Schutzvisiere sind geliefert worden.



I make the acquaintance of the 3rd Plamen in my life. I still know two from our trip to NORWEGIAN SUN 2019: the chief engineer and our fellow traveler. Hence I know it is a Bulgarian name. And now I finally see a full face: the protective visors have been delivered.

After Plamen noticed that the standard recipe for the Virgin Mary on board was too weak for me, his honor as a trained bartender was challenged.



Nachdem Plamen mitbekommen hat, dass mir die Standardrezeptur des Virgin Marys an Bord zu schwach ist, sieht er sich in seiner Ehre als ausgebildeter Bartender herausgefordert.

Es gibt leider keine Selleriestange an Bord, aber dafür hat er Ersatz geschaffen, damit auch mein Auge den Cocktail genießen kann.

Da es leider so kalt ist, muss ich mir meine Weste holen. Aber wie gesagt: ich habe mich definitiv am Essen nicht verbrannt. Schweinekrustenbraten ist auch wieder etwas, was ich mir zu Hause auch selbst machen würde. Vielleicht liegt es ja auch am Geschmack der anderen Mitfahrer. Vielleicht werden sie ja sonst von Essen auf Rädern beliefert und ein frisch-zubereiteter Schweinekrustenbraten stellt einen Höhepunkt dar. Auf den Keksen zum Espresso Macchiato stelle ich fest, dass sie aus dem Hause "Maitre" kommen. Hat Milian seine Pause genutzt, um uns Kekse zu backen?

Instead of a mouth and nose community mask, I will try a bandana. I saw on a magazine show that it would be more fashionable for men. But I cannot get used to it. We arrive in Wertheim in the early evening and do not leave until next noon. So we briefly walk into town. Without a guide (as a book/as an app/live) and without a city map. Just walk around a little. While we change for dinner every evening and show up with long trousers, some come to eat with shorts and go out later. We discover evidence of barista coffees, but everything is already closed. The missing tourists, especially overseas, even ensure that Lindt does not reopen its branch in Wertheim's old town. There is a public tour with the night watchman, but since we have booked a private excursion for tomorrow anyway, we walk past the group. The train to the castle no longer runs, so we walk up there. I am amazed at the Star of David with a beer mug in the middle at the Bach brewery. The next day, however, I am informed that it is not the Jewish Star of David but the South German brewer's star.



Statt Mund-Nasen-Community-Maske versuche ich es mal mit einer Bandana. Ich habe in einer Magazinsendung gesehen, dass es wohl für Männer modischer wäre. Ich kann mich aber nicht daran gewöhnen. Wir kommen am frühen Abend in Wertheim an und legen erst am kommenden Mittag ab. So laufen wir kurz in die Stadt - ganz ohne Fremdenführer (als Buch/als App/live) und ohne Stadtplan. Einfach ein wenig rumlaufen. Während wir ja uns jeden Abend zum Essen umziehen und auch mit langen Hosen erscheinen, gibt es welche, die mit Shorts zum Essen erscheinen und auch später so rausgehen. Wir entdecken Hinweise auf Barista-Kaffees aber es ist schon alles geschlossen. Die ausbleibenden Touristen, speziell aus dem Übersee, sorgen sogar dafür, dass Lindt seine Filiale in der Altstadt von Wertheim nicht mehr wiedereröffnet. Es findet eine öffentliche Führung mit dem Nachtwächter statt, aber da wir für morgen eh eine private Führung gebucht haben, laufen wir an der Gruppe vorbei. Die Bahn zur Burg fährt nicht mehr, so laufen wir zu Fuß hoch. Ich wundere mich über den Davidstern mit einem Bierkrug in er Mitte bei der Bach'schen Brauerei. Am nächsten Tag werde ich jedoch aufgeklärt, dass es sich nicht um den jüdischen Davidstern sondern um den süddeutschen Brauerstern.

Für das Innere der Burg ist es zu spät, aber zum Burg-Restaurant ist es noch früh. So gehen wir hoch und genießen den Blick über der Stadt. Vor allem erleben wir Stadt als es noch hell ist und später schön beleuchtet. Wir sehen, dass hier der Main-Spessart Jakobsweg verläuft. Also auf nach Santiago de Compostela, wie damals auf der KONINGSDAM 2016, als wir in A Coruna angelegt haben.

We are glad that we climbed up here and enjoy the warm evening high above the city. We could certainly have eaten here. Should the opportunity arise again, I would eat here. But now we are full.



Wir sind froh, dass wir hier aufgestiegen sind und genießen den warmen Abend hoch über der Stadt. Hier hätten wir bestimmt auch essen können. Sollte sich wieder eine Gelegenheit ergeben, würde ich hier essen. Aber jetzt sind wir satt.

Am Ende des Tages: mehr als 17.000 Schritte - mehr als 12 km gelaufen. Ich bin jetzt stolz auf mich und müde! Gute Nacht.
