Tag/Day 2.4 auf der/on ARTEMIS in Zeebrugge, Belgium

Der Teil, der sich nur mit der Hardware an diesem Tag befasst, endet hier. So geht es weiter mit dem Leben an Bord - und drumherum. P&O (genau wie damals Cunard) bot wieder den kostenlosen Shuttle nach Blankenberge an.



The part which is dedicated to the hardware on this day is finished. So I continue with the life onboard - and around. P&O (as well as Cunard) offered a complimentary shuttle to Blankenberge.

Nobody could say that they did not know the departure time of the last bus at 16.30 hrs. To be completely safe you need to add Central European Daylight Time....



Es konnte niemand behaupten, dass er nicht gewusst hätte, dass der letzte Bus um 16.30 Uhr geht. Wasserdicht wäre es gewesen, wenn man sicherheitshalber noch MESZ geschrieben hätte...

Im Bus bekam man kostenlos eine Übersicht. Am Ende der etwa zehnminütigen Fahrt stand sogar eine Mitarbeiterin der Busgesellschaft bereit, die Auskunft gab, was man unternehmen könnte oder wann der nächste Zug nach Brügge, Gent, Antwerpen oder Brüssel geht.



You got in the bus an overview free of charge. At the ride came to the end an agent of the bus company gave information about what you can do or when the next trains would leave for Brugge, Ghent, Antwerp or Brussels.

Behind the church is the access to the city center.



Hinter der Kirche fängt die Innenstadt an.

Man läuft also hier lang, damit auch zum Bahnhof kommt.



But for the station you need to walk here as well.

The train station is around the corner.



Um die Ecke ist schon der Bahnhof.

Da hängt auch schon die Bahnhofsuhr.



There is already the clock tower of the station.

Now you see it was the train station building.



Und jetzt sieht man auch, dass es der Bahnhof ist.

Links hängt der Fahrplan, der an Werktagen gilt und rechts der Fahrplan, der für Wochenenden und Feiertagen gilt.



On the left side there is the schedule for the weekdays, and on the right side, you find the timetable for the weekend.

The only problem: the ticket machine only works with the Belgian bank card. So you need to queue up if one entire ship arrives. Before you miss the train: you can buy with a credit card or in cash also with the conductor. Or check before the internet: https://www.b-rail.be.



Das Problem: der rechte Automat funktioniert nur mit belgischer Bankkarte. So muss man sich anstellen, wenn ein ganzes Kreuzfahrtschiff ankommt. Bevor man jedoch den Zug verpasst: Mit Kreditkarte oder in bar kann man auch beim Schaffner kaufen. Oder vorher im Internet gucken: https://www.b-rail.be.

Hier geht es dann zunächst Richtung Brügge. Von dort aus geht es dann weiter nach Gent, Antwerpen und Brüssel.



Here the Bruges-bound trains depart. From there you can transfer to Ghent, Antwerp or Brussels.

We did not want to use the bus back to the cruise terminal but to try how you can get back on the coastal tramways.



Wir wollen aber nicht mit dem Bus zurück, sondern mal testen, ob und wie man mit der Küsten-Straßenbahn zurück zum Cruise Terminal kommt.

Einfach über die Straße und dort halten die Bahnen.



Just across the street and here the trams stop.

Left is a ticket-outlet. Do not wonder if you buy two tickets. You get it on one ticket, and you do not need to cancel/validate/punch. To Zeebrugge, it's 1.20 EUR again.



Links ist eine Verkaufsstelle. Nicht wundern, wenn man zwei Karten dort kaufen will, bekommt man alles auf eine Karte, die man auch nicht mehr entwerten muss. Bis Zeebrügge sind es wieder 1,20 EUR pro Person.

Zeebrügge geht in Richtung Knokke.



Zeebrugge is Knokke-bound.

But here you cannot find any information we need to get back.



Leider findet man gar keine brauchbaren Informationen hier.

Während der Saison fährt die Bahn so alle 15 Minuten. Anscheinend fängt ein Tag später die Nebensaison an. Nur noch alle 20 Minuten.



During the peak-season the tram runs every 15 minutes. The next day obviously the off-season starts: every 20 minutes.

The tram approached.



Da kommt sie.

Die Haltestelle Zeebrugge Kerk (Kirche) haben wir bei der Fahrt nach Blankenberge gesehen. Sie liegt also vor dem Cruise Terminal. Die danach folgende wäre dann Zeebrugge Zeesluis (Seeschloß).



During the bus transfer we saw already the stop Zeebrugge Kerk (Church). It should be from here ahead of the port gate. After that, it should be Zeebrugge Seesluis (Sea Palace).

So we passed the port entrance.



So fahren wir an der Terminaleinfahrt vorbei.

Nach einer Riesenschleife, die wir im Moment fahren, weil Brückenbauarbeiten angesetzt sind, kommen wir Zeebrugge Zeesluis an.



After a very big loop which we had to go due to bridge closure we arrived at Zeebrugge Zeesluis.

We were happy that the bridge was open for cars, bikes and pedestrians.



Zum Glück ist die Brücke für Fußgänger, Radfahrer und Autos offen.

Oben auf der aufgeklappten Brücke hätte man vermutlich die beste Möglichkeit die ARTEMIS aufzunehmen.



On the top of the reclined bridge you must have the best possibility to take pictures of our ARTEMIS.

After 10-15 minutes (incl. breaks for taking pictures) we arrived at the port gate. To the church (the other stop) it would not be much closer.



Nach ca. 10-15 Minuten (inkl. Pausen zum Fotografieren) kommen wir wieder an die Einfahrt zum Terminal. Bis zur Kirche (die andere Haltestelle) wäre es nicht sehr viel näher gewesen.

Und so weit war Zeesluis auch nicht. Für mich als Shipspotter ist das die beste Option, um auch mal das Schiff zu fotografieren. Nur morgens wäre es besser gewessen.



It was not too far away to Zeesluis. For me, as shipspotter, it was the best option to take pictures of the ship. But in the morning time, it would be better.

Now we had our cruise card. So it should not apply to us.



Wir haben doch eine Bordkarte. Das gilt für uns bestimmt nicht.

Hier ist für uns der Lauf zu Ende: wir müssen auf einen Shuttle warten, der uns von hier zum Schiff mitnehmen muss.



This was the end of our walk: we were asked to wait for a bus shuttle which would take us to the ship.

So close the tram was running from the cruise terminal. But there was no close-by tram stop and no way to walk to the tram.



So nah wäre die Küsten-Straßenbahn am Cruise Terminal. Bloß keine nahe Haltestelle und keine Möglichkeit von hier zum Schiff zu laufen.

Als wir auslaufen ist es nicht mehr so diesig, so dass wir bis Heist gucken konnten.



When we set sail it was not any more so dizzy, so we had a chance to see Heist.

From there we took the pictures of the ship.



Dort haben wir also fotografiert.

Wir werden herausgeschleppt.



A TUG pulled us away from the pier.

We did not see more of Captain David Perkins on board. The next 30 minutes we tried to reach Lufthansa German Airlines in Belgium. No success. But we could not reach Lufthansa in Germany and in the UK either. Who cares??? We enjoyed the evening onboard. The reception made the print-outs of the boarding passes for us, so we thought to have something in our hand before they canceled the flight again. We thought to be on the safe side, but we were not.



Mehr von Kapitän David Perkins sehen wir leider nicht an Bord. Die nächsten dreißig Minuten versuchen wir Lufthansa in Belgien zu erreichen. Leider ohne Erfolg. Auch in Deutschland und Großbritannien erreichen wir Lufthansa nicht. Was soll es? Wir genießen den Abend an Bord. Unsere Bordkarten hat die Rezeption für uns ausgedruckt und so haben wir etwas in der Hand, bevor der Flug später storniert wurde. Wir dachten, dass wir auf der sicheren Seite waren.
