Tag/Day 1.2 auf der/on BOUDICCA in Rosyth, Scotland

Leider war die BOUDICCA in Rosyth so eingebaut, dass dort keine Chance bestand, sie besser wie hier zu fotografieren:



Unfortunately BOUDICCA was so coopted in that I was unable to get any better picture.

The reception was in the ferry terminal building but you get only cruise card, health and debarkation questionaires.



Der Empfang fand im Fährterminal statt. Hier gab es aber nur die Cruise Cards, die Gesundheits- und Ausschiffungsfragebögen.

Leider dürfen wir nicht selbst zum Schiff laufen.



Unfortunately we were allowed to walk ourselves to the ship.

Although we were very early at the Cruise Terminal: 59 made it already ahead of us.



Obwohl wir früh vor Ort sind, 59 sind schon vor uns an Bord gegangen.

Da wegen Stau auf der Forth Bridge weit und breit kein anderer zu sehen, der in absehbarer Zeit kommt...



Due to heavy congestion on the Forth Bridge there was no further guests seen.

So they got us to the ship exclusively.



fährt man uns alleine zum Schiff.

Und hier erkennt man gut die Gründe, warum wir nicht selbst durchlaufen durften. In Leith wäre es viel schöner gewesen...

Finally we made it!



Endlich an Bord

Der Check-in erfolgt erst an Bord: Dafür wird kurzerhand der Fitnessraum umfunktioniert.



Check-in was onboard. For this reason the gym became temporary another function.

Our stateroom 8031.



Unsere Kabine 8031...

Zunächst einmal: sollte H1N1 und Norovirus gleichzeitig ausbrechen, würden wir uns nur hier in unserer Kabine wohlfühlen. Das liegt an unserer Perle Jona.

Alles ist blitzblank...



Subject there would an outbreak of Norovirus and H1N1 at the same time: we would feel safe and comfortable in our stateroom due to our Pearl Jona.

It could not be cleaner although the arrangement of furnitures was somehow strange to us.



auch wenn die Aufteilung etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig ist.

Alles ist vorhanden, damit wir uns vom ersten Moment an, an Bord uns zurecht finden.



All we need to find around was available from the first minute.

Enough drawers for stowage.



Genügend Schubladen.

Auch im Kleiderschrank, mit der Ablage für Wasserkocher, Tresor und Badetücher.



Also enough stowage in the closet - incl. water boiler, beach towel and safe.

It's an older air condition but worked properly within a range of +/- 1°C. We were excited as there was no dust on the outlet. Great job of Jona.



Die Klimaanlage ist älteren Datums und läuft aber ziemlich stabil, so im Bereich +/- 1°C. Vor allem freuen wir uns darüber, dass Jona sich schon die Mühe macht, das Teil abzustauben.

Auch die üblichen Staubfänger bei den Lüftungsdüsen: nichts schwarzes erkennbar.



Normally always dusty but not here: the air absorbtion.

Even no dust on the signposts like we experienced on our last cruises. Due to cost cutting you will not find it so clean like here.



Sogar die Schilder sind von oben abgewischt. Kein Vergleich mit unseren letzten Schiffen, die anscheinend unter Kostendruckgründen weniger auf solche Details achten.

Für Lerwick steht noch nicht fest, ob wir tendern oder direkt anlegen. Falls wir direkt anlegen, bietet man uns sicherheitshalber für 4 GBP schon mal Shuttle-Tickets an. Im Falle eines Tenderns, kämen wir direkt in die Stadt.



It was unclear for Lerwick if we need to tender or berth directly. Subject we berth directly they offered us shuttle tickets for 4 GBP just in case. If we need to tender we arrive anyway in the city center.

In the bath room you find everything you need.



Im Bad ist alles vorhanden, was man braucht.

Leider keine Kabine, sondern ein Vorhang, aber ich hatte den Eindruck mit mehr Platz als sonst.



Unfortunately no shower cabin but curtain but with more space than usual.

And additionally an all-you-need-on-your-voyage-package: cotton pads, de-make-up-pads, nail file, sewing set, shower cap, body lotion, shampoo, shower gel, conditioner and one for each of us.



Und zusätzlich nochmals alles, was man so für eine Reise braucht: Wattestäbchen, Nagelfeile, Abschminkpads, Nähset, Duschhaube, Body Lotion, Shampoo, Duschbad, Conditioner und für jeden ein eigenes.

Mangels Mini-Bar und Kühlschrank gibt es nur Wasser.



Just water as there was no fridge or mini-bar.

Our little balcony with a swinging door what was somehow inpractically as it was very narrow.



Und unser kleiner Balkon, leider mit einer Schwingtür, die angesichts der Platzverhältnisse etwas unpraktisch ist.

Aber so ausgestattet, dass man sich bequem draußen sich aufhalten kann.



... but furnished with everything you need for a comfortable outdoor-stay.

And everywhere: well painted.



Und überall: perfekt gestrichen.

Der kaputte Aschenbecher war das einzige, was uns so auffiel. Als Nichtraucher störte uns das allerdings nicht.



The only claim we might had was the damaged ashtray. But as we are non-smoker this was no problem for us.

And obviously nice chocolate which was not abolished because all guests disposed them.



Und anscheinend so leckere Schokolade, dass nie nicht abgeschafft werden musste, weil sie nur weggeworfen wurde.

Das einzige, was ein wenig schade war: warum diese Pommes-Frites-Buden-Beleuchtung im Fahrstuhl.



What did not look so nice: the lamp which reminded me more to a German Fish&Chips-outlet.

Very nice is the wooden promenade which allows you walk around the ship and the hang-over.



Schön war auch die Promenade zum Rundherum-Gehen aus Holz und unser Überbau auf dem Balkon.

Später konnte man auch hier sich auf Liegestühlen sonnen.



Later they put also sunbeds on to enable a nice sunbath.

But currently there was none onboard to use the fascility but the weather did not permit it either.



Aber noch ist quasi niemand da, der es nutzt, zumal es auch zu unbeständig ist.

Während die anderen Pech haben, dass ein Rettungsboot vor deren Balkon hängt, aber andererseits schnell evakuiert werden können, haben wir eine Kabine in der Verlängerung ohne Sichtbehinderung bekommen.



While others were unlucky to get a life boat just in front which make a quick evacuation in a case of emergency we got one stateroom without obstructed view.

Subject it's not closed the promenade looks inviting for a night walk.



Nachts sieht es auch immer sehr einladend aus, wenn es nicht gesperrt ist.

Und überall soll man freundlich in die Kamera lächeln.



You should keep smiling everywhere.

As the internet-center was under construction and upgrading the computers were stowed into the library.



Da das Internet-Center umbaut und auf den neuesten Stand gebracht werden soll, sind die Computer vorübergehend in die Bibliothek verbannt worden.

Ansonsten ist es bestimmt eine wichtige Institution auf so einem kleinen Schiff.



Library is a very important function on a smaller ship.

No printer, no packages - only 40 Pence/minute and very sloooooooowwww....



Es fehlen Drucker usw. Packages gibt es nicht. 40 Pence pro Minute und sehr sehr sehr laaaaaangsaaaaaam...

Interessant: das Gepäck wird über ein offenes Deck mit einem Kran aufgeladen.



Interesting they loaded the baggage over an open deck by crane.

Everywhere space and wood.



Überall Platz und Holz.

Überall kann man herumlaufen.



You can walk everywhere.

The shape of the bow is somehow strange to me.



Die Heckfom ist etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig.

Unser Gepäck kommt uns entgegen.



Our bags came along.

Tea-Time was already in progress when we came.



Die Tea-Time läuft schon, als wir kommen.

Also for diabetic guests and guests who need gluten-free food.



Auch für Diatebetiker- und Gluten-Allergiker gibt es etwas.

Das ist die Neptune-Lounge, in der alles Gesellschaftsleben stattfindet.

Around 18.00 hrs it was set-sail.



Gegen 18.00 Uhr ist Abfahrt.

Wir können auch hier Kapitän Bjarte Roksund bei der Arbeit zugucken.



It's also possible on this ship to observe Captain Bjarte Roksund during his work.

On July 23, 2009 he replaced Captain Jan Thommessen.



Am 23.07.2009 hat er Kapitän Jan Thomessen ersetzt.

Wir können allen anderen auch bei der Arbeit zugucken.



But we could watch all other's at their work as well.

Allerdings ziehen vom Westen her dunkle Wolken auf.

Und bald regnet es auf der anderen Uferseite auch schon Bindfäden.



And very soon it was raining dogs and cats on the other river bank.

Slowly we were pulled away from the berth.



Langsam werden wir hinausgezogen.

Freundlich winken wir den Cruisern zu, die es vielleicht nicht geschafft haben und noch oben auf der Brücke im Stau stehen.



We were friendly waving to those cruisers who might be still on the bridge due to congestion.

That's by the way South Queensferry.



Das ist übrigens South Queensferry.

Und hier nochmals das Hawes Inn, in dem wir am Abend zuvor gegessen haben.



And here again Hawes Inn where we had last night our wonderful dinner.

Normally you should have taken the train over this bridge. Fred Olsen would have got us at Inverkeithing station and took us by bus to the Cruise Terminal for free. But this was too much stress for us.



Normalerweise hätten wir die Bahn nehmen sollen und wären über diese Brücke gefahren. Fred Olsen hätte uns am Bahnhof Inverkeithing abgeholt und kostenlos zum Cruise Terminal gebracht. Das war uns aber zuviel Stress.

Ist schon Wahnsinn, wie lange so eine Konstruktion schon steht.



It's mad how long this construction already exists.

It was obviously ebb tide.

Who has good eyes might see the former Royal Yacht BRITANNIA and the original place we should embark to our cruise.



Wer genau guckt, kann die ehemalige königliche Yacht BRITANNIA im Hintergrund genau erkennen. Und das wäre unser ursprünglicher Startpunkt gewesen.

Es gibt drei Hauptrestaurants auf dem Schiff. Wir sind hier im Four Seasons zugeteilt.



There are three main restaurants available onboard. We have been allocated to the Four Seasons.

That's our table we will have our meals.

Der Salat war uns allerdings zu sauer. Aber den Briten kann es ja nicht sauer genug sein: Sogar auf die Pommes Frites kommt Essig. Andererseits sauer macht ja bekanntlich lustig. Allerdings nicht an unserem Tisch. Wir haben Pech:

Die vier anderen kennen sich bereits und sind noch nicht mal so kommunikativ, dass sie ein "Good Evening" erwidern oder ein "Thanks" kennen, wenn man denen den Brotkorb rüberreicht. Wir fragen einen anderen Tisch an. Allerdings ist nur noch in der 1. Tischzeit etwas frei. Gerne wechseln wir, weil wir am nächsten Tag sowieso früh ins Bett wollen.



For our taste the salad was too sour. But maybe it was not sour enough for Britons: they put vinegar on chips (french fries). We say in Germany: sour makes funny. But not at our table. So we had unluck:

The other four knew each other and they were so incommunicative that they did not reply to a "Good Evening" or said "Thank you" if you handed over the bread basket. So we asked for another table which was avaialbe at the first seating. As we need to go anyway early to bed we accepted the early seating.

Bruno's sorbet was great - tasted like fresh fruits.



Das Sorbet von Bruno war richtig lecker. Schmeckte nach frischen Früchten.

Und Geburtstagsgrüße erfolgen mit Gitarrenbegleitung.

For Bruno Fred Olsen got the diary products from his home region.



Und für Bruno haben sie extra heimatliche Milch besorgt: Milch-Union Hocheifel. Das ist ja nicht so weit weg vom Saarland.

Alternativ kann man auch im Secret Garden Café essen. Es ist ein legerer Ort mit einem SB-Angebot. Allerdings machte es einen besser situtierten Eindruck, als die SB-Angebote auf den großen Schiffen.



Alternatively you can also dine at the self-service venue Secret Garden. It should be a casual place but looks much more elegant than other self-service restaurants on other cruise ships.

The munu does not sound too bad.



Auch das Angebot klang gut.

Damit die richtige Bettschwere erreicht wird, werden entsprechende Kaffeegetränke angeboten...



To get the right sleep you can buy the appropiate coffee speciality.Cruise Director Ricky Shaw managed it very well. When he asked for international guests he got a loud "Yeah" from me. They put the spot on me and he asked where we are from.

The show took us back to the 60s and 70s - back to Swinging London.



Der Cruise Director Ricky Shaw hat die Sache gut im Begriff. Als er ins Publikum fragt, ob auch internationale Gäste an Bord sind, kommt von mir ein lautes "Yeah". Der Spot wird auf mich gerichtet und ich werde gefragt, woher ich komme.

Die Show bringt uns in die 60er und 70er zurück. Quasi das Swinging London.

Eigentlich weiss ich nicht mehr, wo ich hingucken soll: vorne auf die Bühne... oder zu den drei Mädels, die voll in der Stimmung sind.



I did not know where to look: the stage or the three girls who were in a great mood.

And when the Beatles showed up (only three) it was like in the movie "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah (A hard Day's Night)".



Als natürlich die Beatles (allerdings nur zu dritt) kommen, ist es so unfähr wie im Film "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah (A hard Day's Night)"

Und einer der drei Mädels wartet darauf, dass einer der Beatle auch zu ihr kommt, um vor ihr auf den Knien zu singen, wie bei einem anderen Gast zuvor.

Schade, dass ich kein Feuerzeug mithabe, um im Takt mitzuwinken.

Hier dürfte klar sein, dass das "Stop in the name of love" ist.

An dieser Stelle: Ich bin vermutlich zu jung, um diesen Titel zu kennen, und wen sie darstellen.

When they moved over to the 70s you can feel the disco-fever in the lounge.

And when ABBA came: you cannot stop anyone more in the lounge.

Even it was a jump on the success of "Mamma mia". Who cares? We had our fun.



Sicherlich ein Sprung auf das Trittbrett von "Mamma Mia". Hauptsache Spaß!

Alle Hits werden kräftig mitgesungen.



Everybody in the lounge was singing their hits and dancing.

When "Thank you for the Music" came: no arm was left down.



Und auch mitgetanzt.

Bei "Thank you for the music" bleibt natürlich kein Arm unten.

Bruno ist schon längst zu Bett. Mich sprechen die drei Mädels an, weil sie natürlich wissen wollen, wie wir als Deutsche auf eine schottische Kreuzfahrt kommen.

Ein fast perfekter Start liegt also hinter uns.
