Und in der anderen Richtung das gleiche: kurz nach dem schönen Stockholm-Plakat folgt wieder eine Sackgasse am Heck. Wir mochten sehr die Stockholmer Schären während unserer Fahrt auf der NORWEGIAN GETAWAY 2017.

I was browsing in the night on the ship. Later also again, when it was bright. First of all, I checked the open decks.

So sieht der Ausflugsschalter aus, wenn er nicht komplett mit Menschen belegt ist, die noch eingecheckt werden müssen.

Das ist gut: ein Sofa vor der Rezeption. Ich liebe so etwas seit der OCEAN PRINCESS 2010.

In front of the shore excursion desk, I would not need any.



Vor dem Ausflugsbüro brauche ich eigentlich keines.

Ich sehe mich noch ein wenig drinnen in den Bars rum.



I was browsing a little more in the indoor bars.

Also in the Show Lounge, Marco Polo Lounge rehearsed a musician at the piano at this time. While the show was running in the evenings, a sign indicating that a private event was taking place there. Either you offered a show for all, or it was private and not advertised in the daily program!



Auch in der Show-Lounge Marco Polo Lounge probt um diese Zeit ein Musiker am Klavier. Während abends die Show läuft, hängt ein Schild, dass eine private Veranstaltung darin stattfindet. Entweder man bietet eine Show für alle an, oder sie ist privat und wird nicht im Tagesprogramm beworben!

Normalerweise heißt es: oben im SB-Restaurant. Hier heißt es unten im SB-Restaurant Marco's. Nichts zum zeigen.



Normally, it was upstairs in the self-service restaurant. But here it was downstairs in the self-service restaurant, Marco's. Nothing I could show.

Ich sehe mich ein wenig um: auffällig ist, dass alles schief und krumm ist. Am besten sieht man es in den Toiletten. Man kann als Gast direkt mit der Brücke telefonieren: im Fahrstuhl ist das wohl möglich. Ich wollte immer schon mal mit dem Kapitän sprechen.



I looked around a bit: it was striking that everything was crooked. The best way to see it in the toilets. You could call as a guest directly the bridge: in the elevator that was probably possible. I always wanted to talk to the Captain.

At the shore excursion desk, it was very well explained on the screen, what to expect when were tendering. What annoyed me on the ship: you had to gather all the necessary information, because not everything needed was available on one single sheet or screen. The reciprocal references to the tender info, daily program, and excursion desk were ANNOYING! The next morning they released the tender tickets at the counter of the Future Cruise Consultant. To get a map from the Isles of Scilly, you had to go somewhere else again. Someone who requested a tender ticket wanted to go ashore, and a plan would be helpful. Something they did not match.



Am Ausflugsschalter wird sehr gut am Bildschirm erklärt, was man beim Tendern erwarten sollte. Was mich auf dem Schiff stört: man muss sich seine Informationen zusammensuchen, weil nicht alles notwendige auf einem Blatt bzw. Bildschirm steht. Die gegenseitigen Verweise auf die Tenderinformationen, Tagesprogramm und Ausflugsschalter NERVEN! Am nächsten Morgen gibt es am Schalter des Bordreisebüros die Tendertickets. Um einen Plan von Isles of Scilly zu bekommen, muss man sich wieder woanders anstellen. Dass derjenige, der ein Tenderticket braucht, an Land gehen will, und einen Plan bräuchte, bringt man nicht so zusammen.

Der Seegang ist leicht unruhig. Die Schubladen gehen daher selbstständig auf und zu, auf und zu.

In the evening we got an attentive goodie for Easter Holiday.

The main lounge was the Captain's Club. Here you could get an excellent coffee for additional payment. We did not use the free coffee and tea offer on board. They even had "Pharisaer" (North German coffee specialty: to disguise the consumption of alcohol, they in a coffee cup a little coffee and add with alcohol (mostly rum). Typically it was topped with whipped cream to avoid the smell of alcohol) here. On the beverage prices, nothing was added. As usual on British ships: you had to pay extra for snacks. The bar staff was extremely "case-hardened", unmotivated, disinterested in sales. An additional tip was not a motivator. The international sign, "The guest is already served" (napkin or coasters on the table) did not apply. Although completely underemployed, each of them relied on the other that the other already asked. So I walked to the bar and got my drink myself in the evening. The waitress, who has never come, wanted to register the revenue for herself. I refused to give her my card and declared that I did not want her to be involved in my revenue. This was a different world that I was no longer used to experience.



Die Haupt-Lounge ist der Captain's Club. Hier gibt es sehr guten Kaffee gegen Zuzahlung. Das kostenlose Kaffee und Tee-Angebot an Bord nutzen wir nicht. Hier gäbe es sogar Pharisäer. Auf die Getränkepreise wird nichts aufgeschlagen. Wie auf britischen Schiffen üblich: für Snacks muss man extra zahlen. Das Personal an der Bar ist extrem "abgebrüht", unmotiviert, am Umsatz desinteressiert. Zusätzliches Trinkgeld ist kein Motivator. Das internationale Zeichen "Der Gast wird schon bedient" (Serviette oder Untersetzer auf dem Tisch) wird nicht angewendet. Obwohl komplett unterbeschäftigt, verlässt sich jede auf die andere, dass die andere schon gefragt hat. So gehe ich zur Bar und hole mir abends mein Getränk selbst. Die Kellnerin, die nie gekommen ist, will den Umsatz für sich registrieren. Ich weigere mich ihr meine Karte zu geben und erkläre, dass ich nicht will, dass sie am Umsatz von mir beteiligt wird. Das hier ist eine andere Welt, die ich nicht mehr gewohnt bin.

Ankunft auf den Isles of Scilly.



We arrived at the Isles of Scilly.

We went to the Waldorf Main Dining Room for breakfast. Unfortunately, that was not my world: only the daily special, the hot drinks, the hot cereals, warm fish dishes, a cheap orange juice that tasted even worse than any discounter orange nectar from the Tetrabox, were served at the table. Everything else you had to get yourself from the buffet. There was at least one egg station here. All bread rolls were soft.



Wir gehen zum Frühstück ins Waldorf Hauptrestaurant. Leider ist das nichts für mich: es wird das Tages-Spezial, die Heißgetränke, die warmen Cerealien, warmen Fischgerichte, ein billiger Orangensaft, der noch schlimmer schmeckt als Discounter-Orangennektar aus der Tetrabox am Tisch serviert. Alles andere muss man sich selbst vom Büffet holen. Hier gibt es zumindest eine Eierstation. Alle Brötchensorten sind soft.

Der Tenderdienst wird landseitig gestellt. Es geht sehr viel schneller, als wir erwartet haben. Die Gäste mit Schiffsausflügen auf anderen Inseln werden nämlich direkt von unserem Schiff auf die anderen Inseln gebracht und müssen gar nicht mit auf die Tender nach St. Mary's.



The tender service was provided from the shoreside. It worked much faster than we expected. The guests with boat trips to other islands were taken directly off our ship to the other islands and did not need to go on the tender to St. Mary's.

The open tender boats allowed adorable shots of the outside of the ship. And later from the boat to St. Agnes and from the shore side.



Die offenen Tenderboote lassen schöne Außenaufnahmen zu. Und später noch mehr vom Boot nach St. Agnes und vom Land aus.

Wir warten ein wenig am Pier, da es schneller ging, als erwartet. Ich sehe mich im Cafe On the Quay um: kein Plastik. Der Dienst wird durch die Europäischen Fonds für regionale Entwicklungen der EU unterstützt. Mal gucken, was der Brexit bringt.

Katharine of Scilly Walks came to meet us at the appointed time. Most providers who were selling public tours, told us, that there would be none on days when cruise ships were in town. So we asked the Isles of Scilly-Tourist Board, who helped to find Katharine. We were happy that she was flexible and available that day too since the call was initially scheduled for the next day.



Katharine von Scilly Walks holt uns zum verabredeten Zeitpunkt ab. Die meisten Anbieter öffentlicher Touren sagen uns, dass sie an Tagen mit Kreuzfahrtschiffen in der Stadt nichts anbieten. So wenden wir uns an das Touristenbüro von Isles of Scilly, die uns geholfen haben Katharine ausfindig zu machen. We schätzen ihre Flexibilität, dass sie auch heute für uns verfügbar ist, obwohl der Ausflug für morgen vorgesehen war.

Zunächst gehen wir kurz in den Ort. Es herrscht Ebbe.



First, we went into the village. They had the low tine.

In the afternoon they had the high tide.



Nachmittags ist die Flut da.

Viele interessante Geschäfte (z.B. Kavorna Café und Bistro), die leider schon alle gegen 17:00 Uhr schließen.

Here, they had an ATM of the Lloyds Bank. One of two banks on the island.

Wir kaufen Karten bei St. Mary's Boatmen's Association für die GOLDEN SPRAY nach St. Agnes, die von St. Agnes Boating betrieben wird. Der Dienst wird durch die Europäischen Fonds für regionale Entwicklungen der EU unterstützt. Mal gucken, was der Brexit bringt.

Tresco (especially Tresco Abbey Garden) would be completely overcrowded today. Therefore, Katharine suggested that we should see St. Agnes: 70-80 inhabitants. When we arrived: even here high-speed internet was under installation. Poor Germany. It all looked like the scenery from German TV-love dramas adapted by the British author Rosamunde Pilcher. That was such a film set too. They had here in The Turks Head Cornish pasties on pre-order. Everything was very colorful. Very nice flora! We really liked, how Katharine explained everything to us.



Tresco (vor allem der Klostergarten von Tresco wäre heute komplett überlaufen. Daher schlägt Katharine vor, dass wir nach St. Agnes fahren: 70-80 Einwohner. Als wir ankommen: sogar hier wird Hochgeschwidigkeits-Internet installiert. Armes Deutschland. Es sieht alles so aus, wie bei Rosamunde Pilcher. Hier war ja auch ein Drehort. Hier in The Turks Head gibt es Cornish Pasties auf Vorbestellung. Alles sehr bunt. Sehr schöne Flora! Uns gefällt es sehr gut, wie Katharine uns alles erklärt.

Wir laufen zur Insel Gugh, das man nur während der Ebbe fußläufig erreichbar ist. Ein sehr schöner Rundgang.



We walked over to the Isle of Gugh, which was only accessible by walk when you had a low tide. We had a beautiful walk around.

We returned to St. Agnes. Again beautiful flora. There was even a small shop with a Post Office. Here I got a Capri Sun Cherry and a Sausage Roll (like you would get in the Netherlands or Switzerland). In Germany, it was an hour later, and I was thirsty and hungry.



Wir laufen nach St. Agnes zurück. Wieder schöne Flora. Es gibt sogar einen kleinen Laden mit einem Postamt. Hier hole ich mir eine Capri Sonne Kirsch und ein "Wurstweggli" (Sausage Roll/Saucijzen broodje). In Deutschland ist es ja eine Stunde später und ich habe Durst und Hunger.

Wenige Meter später erreichen wir auch den Ort, an dem wir zu Mittag essen: tagsüber Coastguards Café und abends ein Seafood-Restaurant High Tide. Ein wunderschöner Ausblick erwartet uns hier. Hier lernen wir auch einen neuen Typ von Dosen von Cano Water kennen, die besser recyclebar sind, als Plastikflaschen und auch wiederverschließbar und dicht sind. Mein Pastrami-Sandwich ist sehr lecker.



After walking another few yards, we reached the place where we had lunch: Coastguards Café during the day and as the Seafood-Restuarant High Tide in the evening. A beautiful view awaited us here. Here we also got to know a new type of cans of Cano Water that were easier recyclable than plastic bottles and also resealable and dense. My pastrami sandwich was delicious.

We went to Troytown Farm. This was where ice cream was made and clotted cream that you had to fight against, like with alcohol and with tobacco! It was dangerous and addictive, like drugs. Delicious drugs.



Es geht zur Troytown Farm. Hier wird Eis hergestellt und Clotted Cream, die man bekämpfen muss, wie Alkohol und Tabak! Die ist gemeingefährlich und macht süchtig, wie Drogen. Leckere Drogen.

Wir halten kurz an der St. Agnes Kirche. In der Kirche ist alles sehr schön natürlich mit Blumen geschmückt. Keine teuren kunstvolle Arrangements, sondern man hatte das Gefühl, dass man alles von draußen nach drinnen gebracht hätte. Wir gehen über den Friedhof. Katharine zeigt uns die Grabstätte eines deutschen Auswanderers aus Erfurt.



We stopped briefly at the St. Agnes Church. Everything in the church was beautifully decorated with flowers, of course. No expensive artful arrangements, but you had the feeling, that one brought everything from outside to inside. We went over the cemetery. Katharine showed us the burial place of an immigrant from Erfurt, Germany.

We went back to the pier. The boat arrived later so we could enjoy some sunshine.



Wir gehen zurück zur Anlegestelle. Das Boot kommt allerdings später, so dass wir ein wenig die Sonne genießen können.

Hintergrund der Verspätung: das Fährschiff SCILLONIAN III trifft später ein. Übrigens muss man im Hafen die Größe seines Gepäcks überprüfen lassen, so wie beim Handgepäck im Flugzeug.

Since they also carried freight for the other islands, they were loading them directly into feeder ships.



Da sie auch die Fracht für die anderen Inseln bringt, wird direkt auf die Zubringerboote umgeladen.

Wir laufen noch in St. Mary's herum. Das ist mein Fehler, dass ich noch mitgegangen bin. Nach einer Meniskus-OP laufe ich heute 10 km. Der weiche Boden auf St. Agnes ist nicht schlimm. Aber der Asphalt in St. Mary's hätte ich mir besser erspart. Ich hätte es sehr bedauert, wenn ich es nicht gesehen hätte und stattdessen wieder an Bord gegangen wäre. Am Ende der Tour verabschieden wir uns von Katharine. Ein toller Ausflug geht zu Ende.



We were still walking around on St. Mary's. That was my mistake that I even went with the others. After meniscus surgery, I walked 6 miles today. The soft soil on St. Agnes was not unfortunate. But I would have better spared the asphalt on St. Mary's. I would have very much regretted it if I would not see it and instead went back on board. At the end of the tour, we said goodbye to Katharine. A great trip came to an end.

In the Hugh Street Café, I really wanted a scone and some clotted cream. That did have any here. So I had a Cherry Cola from Fentimans. Here we still bought jams and marmalades from Something Scilly. I would really love ordering some jams and marmalades from Dalemain in the Lake District, which we visited before our trip on VENTURA 2018, but they were not able to answer timely inquiries via e-mail or on Facebook. Since I had to pay for the nuts on board the MARCO POLO anyway, I could also choose my favorite varieties. Mr. Filbert's tasted very delicious.



Im Hugh Street Café möchte ich eigentlich ein Scone und Clotted Cream. Das gibt es hier gar nicht. So gibt es für mich eine Cherry Cola von Fentimans. Hier kaufen wir noch Marmeladen von Something Scilly. Ich hätte ja sehr gerne noch Marmelade von Dalemain aus dem Lake District bestellt, die wir vor unserer Reise auf der VENTURA 2018 besucht haben, aber sie sind nicht in der Lage zeitnah Anfragen per E-Mail oder per Facebook zu beantworten. Da ich an Bord der MARCO POLO eh für die Nüsse zahlen muss, kann ich mir auch meine bevorzugten Sorten auswählen. Mr. Filbert's schmecken sehr lecker.

Es gibt zwar kein alternatives Restaurant, aber eine Möglichkeit etwas besonderes auch zu bekommen. Allerdings muss man es vorher bestellen. Jetzt sofort ist nichts möglich. Das indische Menü reizt. Das Surf und Turf auch. Für 16,00 GBP hätte es einen Hummer Thermidor gegeben. Aber nicht mehr für sofort. Auch 24,90 GBP für das Steakhouse wären auch interessant, aber eben niemals spontan. Heute Abend wäre wieder spontan. Es soll ja noch ein formeller Abend folgen. Ausgerechnet, wenn man alles wieder zur Ausschiffung einpacken muss. Oder es findet gar nicht statt und wir haben den Smoking vergeblich eingepackt. Ich bin mal gespannt. Wieder ist für zehn gedeckt, weil zur 2. Tischzeit alle zehn Plätze gebraucht werden. Es gibt Gemüse nach Bruno Art in der Kalbsessenz. Das indische Essen ist lecker, aber es fehlt das Mango Chutney. Ich nehme eine Käseplatte als Dessert. I Putu freut sich über mein Bild mit ihm auf Facebook. Er bedankt sich mit Kartentricks. Er zeigt mir das Menü für morgen. Ich entscheide mich für das reguläre Menü. Aber was ist der Unterschied zwischen der Kürbiscremesuppe und Kürbiscremesuppe (vegan)?



Although there was no alternative restaurant, but there was a way to get something special. However, you had to order it prior. Now nothing was possible. The Indian menu was tempting. I Putu was happy about my picture with him on Facebook. He thanked us with card tricks. He showed me the menu for tomorrow. I decided on the regular menu. But what would be the difference between Cream of Buttersquash soup and Cream of Buttersquash soup (vegan)?

The disembarkation information came very late. I hanged the "Do not disturb"-sign outside. And no information about the shuttle back to Bristol. The information on the ticket and in the disembarkation plan contradicted each other. I went to the reception. They referred me to the shore excursion desk. It was not occupied anymore. Not until tomorrow morning.



Die Ausschiffungsinformationen kommen sehr spät. Ich hänge danach das "Bitte nicht stören"-Schild draußen dran. Und keinerlei Information zu dem Busshuttle zurück nach Bristol. Die Angaben im Ticket und im Ausschiffungsplan widersprechen sich. Ich wende mich an die Rezeption. Die verweist mich an den Ausflugsschalter. Der ist jedoch nicht mehr besetzt. Erst morgen früh wieder.

An der Rezeption kann ich meinen Douglas Ward zurückholen. Ich musste dieses Mal die 2018-er-Ausgabe mitführen. Das ärgert mich schon, weil ich sie 2018 auf der MSC SEAVIEW 2018 mithatte und da stand das Schiff noch nicht drin. Die 2019-er-Ausgabe lag zu Hause, in der das Schiff schon gelistet ist.

Und dieses Mal hat der Kapitän unterschrieben. Seit ROYAL PRINCESS 2013 achte ich sehr darauf, weil damals das Buch ohne Unterschrift des Kapitäns zurück kam.

Ich hätte lieber die 2019-er Ausgabe mitgeführt, aber Douglas Ward schreibt, dass bereits Mai 2018 MARCO POLO aus dem Dienst scheiden sollte und daher ist sie nicht mehr in der 2019-er Ausgabe aufgeführt.



I would instead carry the 2019 edition, but Douglas Ward wrote that MARCO POLO should leave the service as early as May 2018, and therefore she was no longer listed in the 2019 edition.

In the Duty-Free Shop, I was told that it did not apply the tax-regulations here, as I knew them from the other companies. They had Greek olive oil of ACAIA on offer here. And Greek marmalade that I had never heard of. I bought some for our Greek hairdresser, and she told us that it was not Hebe fruit preserves but that they were made to top on Greek natural yogurt to flavor them.



Im Duty Free Shop erklärt man mir, dass man hier die Regelungen nicht anwendet, wie ich sie von den anderen Gesellschaften kenne. Hier gibt es griechisches Olivenöl von ACAIA im Angebot. Und griechische Marmelade, von der ich noch nie gehört habe. Ich bringe sie unserer griechischen Friseurin mit und sie erklärt uns, dass es sich nicht um Marmelade (Hebe Fruit Preserves) handelt, sondern dass man sie auf griechischen Naturjoghurt macht, um sie zu aromatisieren.

Ich gehe noch zum Büffet Magnifique. Das haben sie toll gemacht. Die großen machen das alle nicht mehr! Assistant Maître D' Soe Min und sein Team haben hier wirklich etwas großartiges auf die Beine gestellt. Die ersten 15 Minuten durfte nur fotografiert werden.
