Düsseldorf wacht auf.



Düsseldorf, Germany, was awakening.

We went for breakfast. I actually hated breakfast buffets, but here, a few local specialties were missing, such as ABB-Düsseldorf mustard (extremely spicy), a piece of black pudding (Flöns = Rhine area variation of Black Pudding), or Grafschafter sugar beet spread (Rübenkraut). Since we were on the Neuss side of the river Rhine: some Novesia (Latin name for Neuss) Goldnuss (Gold Nuts) Chocolate. Otherwise, I had rarely seen a buffet where someone always made sure that nothing was ever empty. I just did not like the Le Creuset casseroles, because of the lids. They were so heavy, and you could not settle them anywhere, if necessary without causing an accident: I think putting the lid full condensation water on electric power cables was not a good idea. But I would not permit that to my employees in the company.



Wir gehen zum Frühstück. Ich hasse ja eigentlich Frühstücksbüffets, aber hier fehlten wirklich ein paar lokale Spezialitäten, wie Düsseldorfer Senf von ABB, ein Stück Blutwurst/Flöns oder Grafschafter Rübenkraut. Und weil wir ja auf der Neusser Seite des Rheins sind: etwas Novesia (lateinischer Name von Neuss) Goldnuss Schokolade.Sonst habe ich selten ein Büffet erlebt, bei dem jemand immer dafür gesorgt hat, dass niemals etwas leer ist. Nur die Le Creuset-Casserollen mag ich nicht, weil die Deckel so schwer sind und man sie nirgendst absetzen kann, ohne ggfls. einen Unfall zu verursachen: Ich halte Kondenswasser auf dem Deckel auf Stromkabel abzusetzen für keine gute Idee. Aber ich hätte das meinen Mitarbeitern in der Firma verboten.

Unterwegs zu meinen Eltern, liegt vor den Toren Mönchengladbachs eine freie Tankstelle in Korschenbroich.

Zwar hat weder die NORWEGIAN GETAWAY 2017 hier gebunkert noch die MSC MERAVIGLIA 2017, aber von diesen Reisen kennen wir Gunnar und da wir sowieso tanken müssen, sagen wir kurz guten Tag. Und wir haben erfahren: in Kürze geht es in den Ruhestand und dann ist Schluss. Wir müssen schnell weiter: Telekom schaltet heute von ISDN auf Voice over IP um. Das wird zum Drama.

Weiter geht es über die Grenze in die Niederlande. Da Ferienbeginn in vielen Bundesländern ist, werden immer mehr Straßen in den Niederlanden von Tom Tom Go Mobile App in rot angezeigt. Die erwartete Gesamtzeit der Verzögerung wird auf der direkten Route immer größer. Bereits ab Venlo werden weiter in Richtung Norden abgeleitet und so essen wir schnell in der Raststätte Malden: typisch niederländisch für mich: Kroketten zwischen weichem Weißbrot. Die Auswahl fällt schon schwer: es erinnert alles an Kindheit an der niederländischen Grenze. Aber ich bin froh, dass das i.d.R. immer sehr kleine Portionen sind.

Wieder geht es zurück auf die A73... Nijmegen... erinnert an unsere VENTURA 2018-Reise... Da haben wir uns mit Marco und Thomas zum Abendessen in Hoek van Holland getroffen. Und zu Marco führen sogar die Schilder?

Es geht schnell nach Rotterdam, um ein paar Bilder von der AIDAdiva zu machen. Ich erkenne die Uferseite vor dem Cruise Terminal kaum wieder! Große Veränderungen seit unserer ersten Reise auf der NORWEGIAN PEARL 2006 und danach EURODAM 2008, NORWEGIAN JADE 2009, NORWEGIAN EPIC 2010, WESTERDAM 2010, NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY 2013, ARTANIA 2014 bis heute!



We went quickly to Rotterdam, The Netherlands, to take some pictures of AIDAdiva. I could not barely recognize the riverbank side of the cruise terminal! So many changes since our first sailing on NORWEGIAN PEARL 2006 and after that on EURODAM 2008, NORWEGIAN JADE 2009, NORWEGIAN EPIC 2010, WESTERDAM 2010, NORWEGIAN BREAKAWAY 2013, ARTANIA 2014 until today!

Usually, I took a water taxi to take pictures closer to the ships.

Jetzt gibt es wohl auch einen öffentlichen Wasserbus. Linie 18 führt Richtung Mündung.

My last went before our voyage on NORWEGIAN JADE 2014 (2) at the Hilton Molino Stucky in Venice, Italy. And from the CELEBRITY EQUINOX 2010 trip, I remembered the collapsed bed in the Doubletree by Hilton Miami Grand Hotel Biscayne Bay. But our hotel charged 50,00 EUR per night for parking.



Leider müssen wir schnell weiter. Deswegen können wir auch niemanden in Rotterdam auf einen Kaffee besuchen. Unser Zeitpuffer von 60 Minuten ist am Schluss auf 15 Minuten geschrumpft, als wir endlich in Amsterdam ankommen. Die günstigste Garage in Amsterdam ist Oosterdoksstraat mit 20,00 EUR pro 24 Stunden. Allerdings wird in der Zufahrt zur Garage gebaut, so dass man mitten ind er Stadt wenden muss, um von der anderen Seite reinzukommen. Hier verlieren wir dann weitere 20 Minuten. Darüber ist das Doubletree by Hilton Hotel. Leider reichen meine Punkte nicht, um hier zu wohnen. Die gingen zuletzt bei der NORWEGIAN JADE 2014 (2) im Hilton Molino Stucky in Venedig drauf. Und von der CELEBRITY EQUINOX 2010-Reise erinnere ich mich an das zusammengebrochene Bett im Doubletree by Hilton Miami Grand Hotel Biscayne Bay. Nur unser Hotel verlangt 50,00 EUR pro Nacht für das Parken.

Wir wohnen im Kimpton De Witt Hotel auf der anderen Seite vom Hauptbahnhof. Mit der Straßenbahn fahren bringt nichts: von der Seite unseres Parkhauses ist die nächste Haltestelle Hauptbahnhof. Und von unserem Hotel ist die nächste Haltestelle ebenfalls Hauptbahnhof. So laufen wir fünf Minuten vom Parkhaus zum Hauptbahnhof und weitere fünf Minuten vom Hauptbahnhof zu unserem Hotel. Hier erwartet uns ein sehr freundlicher Empfang, der schon vor unserem Hotel losgeht. Im Hotel ist alles sehr schön mit Blumen dekoriert. Am Eingang kann man sich bereits erfrischen. Der erste Eindruck ist schon sehr gut. Nur leider wird im Moment überall umgebaut, so dass die Wegführung nicht immer sehr klar ist. Erst als wir abreisen, wird die Beschilderung am Fahrstuhl der neuen Wegführung zu unserem Zimmer angepasst.



We stayed in the Kimpton De Witt Hotel on the other side of central station. Going by tram would not be beneficial: from the side of our parking garage would be the next stop central station. And from the side of our hotel, the next stop would be the central station too. So we walked five minutes from the parking garage to the central station and another five minutes from the central station to our hotel. Here a cordial welcome awaited us, which started in front of our hotel. Everything is beautifully decorated with flowers in the hotel. At the entrance, you could already refresh yourself. The first impression was already excellent. Unfortunately, everything was under remodeling at the moment, so that the way you needed to use was not always obvious. But when we left, they adjusted the signposts for the rooms at the elevator with the new guidance.

The room was great at first glance. Unfortunately, far away from the elevator and right on the corner of the pedestrian area with a view of the shops and cafes and of course they could look back because we granted in the 1st Floor with floor to ceiling windows best insight. As a fan of trams, I was pleased that I did not need to count sheep at night but trams: 4 lines in the evening in 10-minutes intervals in two directions until 01:00 hrs... I had plenty to count. With a high number of pubs all around, we became the close witness of the victory of Ajax Amsterdam's 2-1 against Juventus Turin, Italy in soccer. We fall from the bed more or less by the cheering for the 2nd goal.



Das Zimmer ist auf den ersten Blick toll. Leider weit weg vom Fahrstuhl und direkt an der Ecke zur Fußgängerzone mit Blick in die Läden und Cafés und die natürlich gucken auch zurück, weil wir in der 1. Etage mit bodentiefen Fenstern besten Einblick gewähren. Als Straßenbahnfan freue ich mich darüber, dass ich nachts nicht Schäfchen sondern Straßenbahnen zählen darf: 4 Linien abends im 10-Minuten-Takt in zwei Richtungen bis 01:00 Uhr... da habe ich viel zu zählen. Da rund um jede Menge Kneipen sind, erleben wir hautnah den 2:1 Sieg von Ajax Amsterdam gegen Juventus Turin mit. Wir fallen durch den Torjubel beim 2:1 quasi aus dem Bett.

So ein tolles Bad. Leider kaum Platz für unsere Kulturbeutel und was ich hasse: Glastüren. Es gibt kein Tageslicht im Bad, daher generell eine gute Idee, aber wenn jemand nachts ins Bad muss, ist immer das ganz Zimmer hell. Dafür gibt es Milchglas, dass die Helligkeit etwas abstumpft. Aus Designgründen gibt es jedoch teilweise Klarglas. Furchtbar. Ich stehe auf Peep-Shows, aber das ist einfach zuviel, wenn man fast alles mitgucken kann.



Such a great bathroom. Unfortunately, hardly any space for our toiletry bags and what I hated: glass doors. There was no natural light in the bathroom, so it was generally a good idea, but if someone had to go to the bathroom at night, the whole room was always bright. There was frosted glass, so the brightness dulled somehow. For design reasons, however, there was some clear glass. Awful. I liked peep shows, but that was just too much if you could watch almost everything.

But very excellent details in the room, like the Bluetooth loudspeaker.

Ganz toll: damit man gut entspannt ankommt: als IHG Rewards Club Mitglied darf ich mich für 15,00 EUR an der Mini-Bar bzw. an der Bar bedienen. Klasse. Ich verbiete Bruno die Nutzung der Porzellantassen, ohne dass wir vorher prüfen, ob wir unsere Haftpflichtversicherung bezahlt haben. Erst danach darf er erst sich einen Kaffee machen. Es sieht aus wie edles Delfter Porzellan, aber es neu, modern und bezahlbar von Royal Pip aus Amsterdam.



Great: to allow you arrive in a relaxed atmosphere: as an IHG Rewards Club member I was permitted to help myself for 15.00 EUR at the mini-bar or at the bar. That was classy. I forbade Bruno to use the porcelain cups without first checking if we paid our liability insurance. Only then he could make a coffee after that. It looked like fine Delft Chinaware, but it was new, modern and affordable by Royal Pip Amsterdam.

"Friends of XXX are certainly also our friends" - a saying from a German television series of the 80s on, which influenced me decisively. We knew Sandy and Scott from MN from our travels on CELEBRITY EQUINOX 2010 and after KONINGSDAM 2016. On Facebook, we followed the activities of each other. That was how we get to know Sandy's sister Janice. Now it turned out that she was in Amsterdam for a few days. After our travel plans had changed: the few miles detours via Amsterdam was not making a difference. We walked together from their hotel to our hotel and continued through the Western City to our restaurant. Along the way, we immersed ourselves in the gay world and the world of coffee shops in Amsterdam.



"Freunde von XXX sind selbstverständlich auch unsere Freunde" - ein Spruch aus der Fernsehserie der 80-er Jahre "Unsere schönsten Jahre" mit Uschi Glas und Elmar Wepper, der sich bei mir eingebrannt hat. Wir kennen Sandy und Scott aus den USA von unseren Reisen auf der CELEBRITY EQUINOX 2010 und im Anschluss an die KONINGSDAM 2016. Über Facebook verfolgt man die Aktivitäten der anderen. So lernen wir auch Sandys Schwester Janice kennen. Nun stellt sich heraus, dass sie für ein paar Tage in Amsterdam ist. Nachdem sich unsere Reisepläne geändert haben: auf die paar Meter Umweg über Amsterdam kommt es nicht an. Wir laufen zusammen von ihrem Hotel zu unserem Hotel und weiter durch die Weststadt zu unserem Restaurant. Unterwegs tauchen wir in die schwule Welt und die Welt der Coffee Shops in Amsterdam unter.

Eigentlich will ich weißen Spargel: alternativ Muscheln essen. Daher habe ich bei Amsterdamer Freunden gefragt, die wir von Kreuzfahrten her kennen: Ine von der EURODAM 2008, GRAND PRINCESS 2011 und KONINGSDAM 2016, sowie Joan von der NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2018. Sie haben tolle Empfehlungen gegeben, aber ich bin dann auf der Homepage von Moeders hängengeblieben, auch wenn es hier nur Wasser und Brot gegeben hätte. Für den Tag bekomme ich nur noch eine Reservierung um 18:30 Uhr. Walk-Ins haben an dem Abend keine Chance. Eine tolle Stimmung erleben wir hier. Das Essen ist nicht schlecht und unterliegt zu sehr modernen und internationalen Einflüssen: Es gibt also hier weder Spargel noch Muscheln. Aber das steht hier nicht so im Vordergrund.

The food was not bad and was slightly adapted by modern and international influence: So there was neither asparagus nor mussels. But that was not the main reason to see this restaurant.

Wir steigen am Hauptbahnhof aus. Da es sehr kühl geworden, begleiten wir Janice kurz in ihr Hotel, damit sie sich eine Jacke holen kann. Gegenüber liegt die Basilika St. Nikolaus. Direkt daneben liegt das NH Collection Hotel Barbizon Palace, in dem wir mal vor der Reise auf der WESTERDAM 2010 gewohnt haben.



We got off at central station. Since it became quite chilly, we escorted Janice back to her hotel, that she could grab a jacket. The opposite was Basilica Santa-Claus. Just next was the NH Collection Hotel Barbizon Palace, where we stayed before we joined WESTERDAM 2010.

We went quickly over by public ferry service of Amsterdam Transport Company GVB to the so-called new North. The ride was free of charge. Here you could see a new attraction on the left side: This is Holland.



Wir fahren kurz rüber mit den öffentlichen Fähren der GVB in den sog. neuen Norden. Die Fahrt ist kostenlos. Hier sieht man links eine neue Attraktion. This is Holland.

Drüben sieht man auch die erleuchtete Skyline von der Amsterdamer Innenstadt. Aber ist weniger hell, als ich es erwartet hätte.

Selbst der Hauptbahnhof ist nur sehr schwach beleuchtet und beschränkt stark, dass man dahinter etwas sieht.

Natürlich muss ich heute Abend die beleuchtete VIKING SKY sehen. Sie liegt am Passagier Terminal. Hier lagen wir schon mit der JEWEL OF THE SEAS 2007, NORWEGIAN JEWEL 2008 und KONINGSDAM 2016. Und ab und zum Fotografieren oder um Freunde abzuholen sie mit der NORWEGIAN SUN unterwegs waren und wir auf der GRAND PRINCESS 2011. Leider wird man in Zukunft nicht mehr so viele Kreuzfahrtschiffe hier sehen, weil Amsterdam eine Kreuzfahrerabgabe eingeführt hat. So weichen viele Kreuzfahrtschiffe nach Rotterdam oder Ijmuiden aus.

Sie war ja vor kurzem in den Schlagzeilen, weil sie vor Norwegen in Seenot geraten ist.



Recently, she become the attention of the global press, because she was in severe emergency around Norway.

Now she looked well again.



Nun sieht aber alles wieder gut aus.
