Tag/Day 0D auf dem Weg zur/on the way to MARCO POLO in Calais, France - Bristol, England

Frühstück: Überraschung! Nicht nur ein Croissant, etwas Butter und Konfitüre und eine Schale Milchkaffee! Sondern ein schönes Angebot. Es gibt zumindest ein Schild, dass man Spiegeleier sich bestellen kann. Ich mag das Angebot mehr, als am Tag zuvor im Kimpton De Witt in Amsterdam.



Breakfast: surprise! Not just a croissant, some butter and jam and a cup of latte! But they had a very nice offer. There was at least one sign that you could order fried eggs. I liked the offer more than the day before at Kimpton De Witt in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

I was checking, where our MARCO POLO was.

Oh! Und später nochmals um 22:24 Uhr und sie ist schon hier: dann wird sie wohl sehr viel früher in Avonmouth sein.

Out of our window, we could see the ferry pier: but that time, I did not book the ferry.



Aus unserem Fenster sehen wir zum Fährhafen rüber: nur ich habe ja dieses Mal nicht die Fähre gebucht.

Actually, it should be the 2nd deadline for the Brexit. But we would not need to have a visa because everything was already set until the end of 2020 according to the German Embassy in London, England.



Eigentlich wäre heute schon die 2. Frist für den Brexit gewesen. Aber wir hätten kein Visum gebraucht, weil bis Ende 2020 alles geregelt ist lt. Deutschen Botschaft in London.

Aber auch gem. britischer Regierung, besteht kein Grund sich zu sorgen.



Also according to the UK Government, there was no reason for worries.

We booked a semi-flexible fare for the Eurotunnel and so we were entitled to use the next train and could head directly to the waiting area.



Wir haben einen semi-flexiblen Tarif für den Eurotunnel gebucht und dürfen daher bereits den nächsten Zug benutzen und können direkt zum Wartebereich.

Zunächst nach Dover zum Shipspotting: eine böse Überraschung. Den Prince of Whales-Pier, den Parkplatz und das Enterprise Büro (sind jetzt näher zum Fährterminal Eastern Docks): gibt es alles nicht mehr. Direkt vis-à-vis vom Kreuzfahrtterminal wird ein neues Frachtterminal gebaut.



First, we needed to go to Dover, England for shipspotting: a bad surprise. The Prince-of-Whales-Pier, the parking, and the Enterprise office (now closer to the Ferry Terminal Eastern Docks): that were not anymore. Just opposite the cruise terminal, they built a new freight terminal.

SAGA SAPPHIRE should not be here anymore.

It was a pity.

We went quickly to Samphire Hoe, which was located between Dover and Folkestone and was connected by a tunnel during the opening hours. The park was operated by Eurotunnel. Unfortunately, the café was closed. Only the exhibition was open.



Wir sind kurz am Samphire Hoe, das zwischen Dover und Folkestone liegt und durch einen Tunnel während der Öffnungszeiten erreichbar ist. Der Park wird von Eurotunnel betrieben. Leider ist das Café geschlossen. Nur die Ausstellung ist geöffnet.

Unterwegs halten wir kurz bei Costa um Kaffee zu trinken und ein Sandwich von Pret-à-Manger. Diese dreieckigen Sandwiches fand ich in meiner Kindheit leckerer.



On our way, we stopped with a Costa to have a cup of coffee, and a sandwich from Pret-à-Manger. I liked the triangle shaped sandwiches more when I was a child.

But never again Asian food at the highway. Vomit. I remembered a former co-worker always ordered this food in Germany: Fried noodles with curry sauce. But there it was good.



Nie wieder asiatisch an der Autobahn. Igitt. Ich erinnere mich an eine wallisische Kollegin, die das immer in Deutschland bestellt hat: Gebratene Nudeln mit Currysauce. But dort was es immer gut.

Aber so sieht es von unserem Zimmer aus! Falls es regnet, kann ich von hier aus fotografieren.

We drove to Hampton Inn by Hilton. Here, we could park next roof-top in the St James Barton Car Park so the chocolate could not melt.



Wir fahren zu Hampton Inn by Hilton. Hier können wir zum Glück nebenan überdacht im St James Barton Parkhaus parken, so dass die Schokolade nicht schmelzen kann.

Sehr praktisch: man kann auch an der Ausfahrt bezahlen.

Da kommen Marc und Susan, die wir von gemeinsamen Fahrten auf der NORWEGIAN JADE 2009, NORWEGIAN EPIC 2010 und NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2013 kennen, an.

Recently, you could fly by FlyBMI to Bristol, but they went bankrupt. Now they had to find an alternative way.



Bis vor kurzem konnte man mit FlyBMI nach Bristol fliegen und gingen sie in Konkurs. Nun mussten sie einen alternativen Weg suchen.

Und später kommen noch Christine und Axel an, die wir von der QUEEN ELIZABETH 2012 (1) und NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2013 kennen.

We walked with Susan and Marc through the town and dined at Cathay Rendezvous. Some tasted homemade. Some felt like frozen food. You could see it. For little money, you could get great theater menus. Later we learned, that it was a historical building of the former library.



Mit Susan und Marc gehen wir durch die Stadt und essen bei Cathay Rendezvous. Einiges schmeckt hausgemacht. Einiges aus der Tiefkühltruhe. Das sieht man. Schmecken tut es gut. Für wenig Geld bekommt man tolle Theatermenüs. Später erfahren wir, dass es sich um ein historisches Bibliotheksgebäude handelt.

Den Rückweg nutzen wir auch mal für ein paar Fotostops zu halten. In der Altstadt fühlt man sich wie in der Düsseldorfer Altstadt. Bei dem Wetter sitzt alles trocken draußen und trinkt. Man darf zwar laut Schild auf der Straße kein Alkohol trinken. Aber daran hält sich keiner. Hier steht auch das historische Bristol Old Vic-Theater, aber wir erfahren erst am nächsten Tag mehr darüber. Es gibt sehr viel Leben am Wasser. Hier sehen wir auch, dass man mit dem Wasserbus von Bristol Ferry unterwegs sein kann. Wir laufen durch den neu geschaffenen Bezirk Finzels Reach über die Castle Bridge. Schade, dass Kinky Boots von Cindy Lauper in Hamburg nicht mehr läuft. Sehr schön: die beleuchteten bunten Ballons rund um Cabot Circle. Bald müssen wir auch ins Bett, weil ich ja frühmorgens raus will.



We also used the way back for a few photo stops. In the old town, you felt like in the old town of Düsseldorf, Germany. With such weather, everybody was sitting outside dry and drank. It was not allowed to drink alcohol according to the sign on the street. But nobody took care. Here, they had also the historic Bristol Old Vic-Theater, but we learned the next day more on the details. There was a lot of life on the water. Here we also saw that you could use the water bus by Bristol Ferry. We walked through the new district Finzels Reach over the new Castle Bridge. Too bad that Kinky Boots by Cindy Lauper in Hamburg was not running any longer. Very beautiful: the illuminated colored balloons around Cabot Circle. Soon we had to go to bed because I wanted to get out early in the morning.
