Tag/Day 1.12 auf der/on ASTOR in Hamburg, Germany

Bei NCL gibt es bei den meisten Schiffen, die Delfine, die einem den Weg zum Bug zeigen. Hier auf der ASTOR sind des die kleinen Pfeile an den Zimmernummern.



With NCL you find on most ships the dolphins to show the way to the bow. Here on ASTOR you find little arrows at the room number.

We got some chocolate as welcome greeting.



Hier gibt es Schoki als Willkommensgruß.

Handtücher sind alle frisch getauscht.



Towels were changed freshly.

Now the ship's booking agent was closed but you get the information that you can book for a reduced price your cruise.



Jetzt war das Bordreisebüro zu und nun bekommen wir den Hinweis, dass wir verbilligt an Bord unsere nächste Kreuzfahrt buchen können.

Bruno entdeckt den Bordladen, der auf hat und findet ein paar Schnäppchen.

We went to the Captain's Club and I took a Shirley Temple. Important: with ice, lemon slice and cherry...



Wir gehen in den Captain's Club und ich nehme einen Shirley Temple. Wichtig: mit Eis, Zitronenscheibe und Kirsche...

Etwas zu knabbern gab es zunächst nichts... Alles blieb auf der Theke stehen.



We did not get some snacks... It stayed on the bar.

A little later we got some peanuts at least.



Irgendwann bekamen wir doch mal ein paar Erdnüsse zumindest.

Sound & Silence. Ich hätte gehofft, dass es mehr Silence gewesen wäre.

The DJ started to play music. But only German songs. Because nobody came to the dancefloor the DJ became louder and louder from song to song. The selection of the music became more and more terrible. Even he went with his company on the dancefloor nobody was willing to follow him.



Der DJ fängt irgendwann aufzulegen. Aber nur deutsche Schlager. Weil niemand auf die Tanzfläche will, wird er von Stück zu Stück lauter and lauter. Die Auswahl der Musik immer grauenhafter. Selbst nachdem er selbst mit seiner Begleiterin tanzt, geht niemand auf die Tanzfläche.

Wir warten eigentlich auf das Flying Buffet, das als Mitternachtssnack ab 23.00 Uhr im Tagesprogramm in allen Bars angeboten wird.



We waited for the Flying Buffet which they offered from 23.00 hrs in the daily programme in all bars.

So we asked as nothing happened. One waiter told us that the Bar department was not in charge and we had to find someone from the restaurant to post our request. Such a reaction I am not used to get as loyal customer of NCL. I ASKED again that he should ask. So he asked the bar tender to make a phone call. Just in this moment one supervior came by who explained that they serve only on the upper decks. As I said that they should correct their dialy programme she accepted to get us some snacks.



Derwegen fragen wir nach. Ein Kellner erklärt, dass der Barbetrieb nicht dafür zuständig sei und wir jemand aus dem Restaurant suchen müssten, um diesen zu Fragen. Ich bin so eine Reaktion als NCL-Stammkunde nicht gewohnt. So BITTE ich ihn, dass er bitte mal nachfragen möge. Er fordert die Barfrau auf, anzurufen. In diesem Moment kommt eine Führungskraft runter, die uns erklärt, dass nur oben in den Bars serviert wird. Als ich meine, dass sie dann ihr Programm korrigieren sollten, meint sie, dass sie uns etwas besorgen würde.

So etwa zehn Minuten später ein Tablett für die gesamte Bar.



Another minutes later one tray came for the whole bar.

It was not enough for every one in the bar if you take one of each. So I only took 2 of 3 to try. It was no true finger food. The Cevapcici (Croatian minced meat rolls) were so soft that you could not handle it with a dental stick. And outside the chicken skewer it was the cold fat around that you had problems to handle too. And somehow I need to think of the lobsters and oysters we got at midnight on DELPHIN and DELPHIN VOYAGER... a true midnight buffet... and here Cevapcici... and you pay double as much...



Für alle in der Bar reicht es nicht, wenn man von jedem eins nimmt. So nehme ich bloß 2 von 3 zum Probieren. So richtiges Fingerfood war es leider nicht. Der Cevapcici war leider so weich, dass er sich nicht mit dem Zahnstocher hand haben. Und leider war der Hühnchenspieß außen so fettig (kalt), dass man auch hier Probleme hatte. Und irgendwie denke ich an die Langusten und Austern, die es auf der DELPHIN und DELPHIN VOYAGER um Mitternacht gab... Ein echtes Mitternachtsbüffet... und hier Cevapcici... Und ich zahle das Doppelte...

Eine 2. Runde gab es leider nicht.

Und auch keine Servietten. Die gab es dann AUF ANFRAGE...

Da wir keine Ohrstöpsel bekommen und der DJ noch lauter und die Musikauswahl noch schlechter wird, versuchen wir eine Alternative zu finden und zu gucken, was draußen los ist. Vorbei geht es am Überseeclub. Dort werden auch die Snacks zubereitetet.



As we had no ear-plugs with us and the DJ became louder and louder and the selection of the music was becoming worse and worse we checked for an alternative and went outside to see around. So we passed the Overseas Club. There they were preparing the snacks.

Outside it was quite warm and they had a great atmosphere on the open deck. It was less loud than downstairs, the music was live and a great selection of music.



Draußen ist es schön warm und eine riesig-tolle Stimmung auf dem Deck. Und vor allem weniger laut als unten, die Musik live und die Auswahl gut.









Und wir gehen in die Hanse Bar und hier stelle ich fest, dass hier schon der Software-Fehler der Kamera auftritt, den SONY freundlicherweise verschweigt: der interne Blitz wird abgeschaltet und er kalkuliert auf Basis eines externen Blitzes, den man nirgendwo anschließen kann. Aber das erfahren wir erst später, als wir immer mehr Ärger mit der Kamera haben.



So we went to the Hanse Bar and here I found out that here we had the first time again the software error with the camera, SONY does not tell you when they sell the camera: the internal flash would be turned off and it is all calculated with a use of an external flash which you cannot connect to the camera. But we learned this many days later when we had more trouble with the camera.

It was very nice here. May senior officers like it as well. They sit the table next to us and celebrated with themselves but with us.



Hier war es ganz nett. Auch vielen Seniorenoffizieren gefiel es. Sie saßen am Nachbartisch und feierten unter sich und weniger mit uns.

Und hier oben gab es weiter Cevapcicis...



And here on the upperdeck we got again Cevapcicis...

1 (in words: one) chip for so much "Guacamole" (for my taste too yellow, wrong condition and you could not really taste the avocado)... Due to lack of a little spoon I just ate the rest with my tongue like a dog.



1 (in Worten: ein) Chip für soviel "Guacamole" (etwas sehr gelb, falsche Konsistenz und nicht nach Avocado schmeckend)... Mangels Löffelchen habe ich den Rest einfach mit der Zunge wie ein Hund abgeschleckt.

Mangels geeignetem Geschirr wurden die Hühnerspieße hier in diesen Keramikbechern serviert, die man normalerweise für Teesiebe nutzt. Daher passiert folgendes: wenn man von der Spitze her ein Stückchen Huhn abbeißt, kommt man nicht mehr an die Sauce dran, die sich unten in dem Becher befindet. Und wieder kein Löffelchen... Dieses Mal reicht meine Zunge nicht rein... Joghurtbecher und ähnliches gehören dann eher zur Kompetenz von Bruno... aber die Sauce war auch nicht so gut, dass es sich gelohnt hätte. Zu einem Satée-Spieß gehört nun mal eine Erdnuß-Sauce. Es kommt bloß noch Cevapcici, die man loswerden will. Von den Würstchen in Speckmantel bekomme ich hier auch nichts ab.



Due to lack of suitable tableware they served the chicken-skewer here in the little China cups which you normally use for tea strainer. So this happened then: if you bite from the top of the skewer a little piece of chicken you have no chance to get some sauce anymore which was at the bottom of the cup. And again no little spoon... This time my tongue was not enough... But Joghurt-cups etc. were more the competence of Bruno... but the sauce was not good enough. For a satée you need peanut-sauce. They bring more and more Ceveapcici nobody else wanted. I never got a saussage in bacon-cover here either.

We sat there about 15 minutes before a Maître noticed that we got no service so far although there were many waiters with clear trays passing us. But the Maître did not take our orders but looked for someone he could send and found someone at the bar standing and making sure that none would fill the dish washer and none could steel anything from the dishwasher. It looked so from our corner. First the three Diet Coke came but with hot glasses fresh from the dishwasher. A true pleasure. I ordered again a Shriley Temple which did not came but I should sign for it before I got the drink. Then my drink arrived but no ice and no cherry. After few minutes (look how much the other already drank) I was able to direct the attention of the Maître to us and learned that you get only ice in your cocktails ON REQUEST.



Wir haben so ungefähr 15 Minuten gesessen, bevor ein Maître bemerkt, dass wir bislang nicht bedient wurden, obwohl jede Menge Kellner mit leeren Tabletts bei uns vorbei liefen. Der Maître nimmt jedoch unsere Bestellung nicht auf, sondern sucht jemand, der gerade wohl an der Bar aufpasst, dass niemand etwas aus der laufenden Spülmasche klaut oder reintut. So sah es zumindest von unserer Ecke aus. Er kommt und nimmt unsere Bestellung auf. Zunächst kommen drei Flaschen Cola Lights mit drei heißen Gläsern (Frisch aus der Spülmaschine). Ein echter Genuß. Ich hatte jedoch einen Shirley Temple wieder bestellt, der nicht mitkam. Ich sollte aber schon vorab dafür unterschreiben. Dann kommt mein Shirley Tempel und wie man sieht ohne Eis und ohne Kirsche. Nach einigen Minuten (siehe Füllhöhe Cola-Flasche) gelingt es mir, den Maître an unseren Tisch zu bekommen. Ich erfahre, dass es Eis in Cocktails nur AUF ANFRAGE gibt.

Er versprach Eis zu besorgen und guckte wieder nach jemandem, dem er das delegieren konnte. Es kam nichts. Wir halten eine Kellnerin an und bitten sie nach unseren Eiswürfeln zu fragen. Ohne weiter darauf einzugehen, meinte sie bloß, dass sie ja dann kommen würden und sie verschwand. Ein Kellner, der mit leerem Tablett in der Ecke lungerte, weigerte sich zu uns zu kommen und schüttelte den Kopf und verschwand. Nun kam ausgerechnet jemand mit Streifen vorbei, die eh schon immer mit vollem Tablett raus und rein lief und sie bekam von mir die Frage, ob ich den F&B-Manager sprechen müsste, um ein paar Eiswürfel zu bekommen. Sie nahm sofort mein Glas und lief zur Bar. Zwischendurch kam der Maître mit ein paar Eiswürfel zurück, die jedoch sofort von Diana, Udo und Bruno genutzt wurden, um deren Colas zu kühlen, die ja in die heißen Gläser gefüllt wurden. Er erklärte, dass er es wohl zwischenzeitlich vergessen hätte and entschuldigt sich dafür.



He promised to get me some ice and looked again for someone to delegate. Nothing came. We stopped a waitress and asked her to check for our ice. She ignored our request and just said that it would come and disappeared. Another waiter who was standing there around with a clear tray we were trying to call but he only shaked his head and disappeared as well. But now someone came with some stripes and had a full try when she was passing by leaving and coming back to the bar and she got the question if I need to ask the F&B-Manager for some ice-cubes. She just took my glass and went to the bar. Meanwhile the Maître returned with some ice-cubes and explained that he forgot it and apologied. Diana, Udo and Bruno took immediately possession of my ice-cubes as their Cokes was warm as it was filled into hot glasses.

Then my glass returned with the ice-cubes. Here I saw on her name tag that was not in charge originally for bar services. I deeply regret that I claimed with her my problem. But you will read later a little more.



Dann kam auch mein Glas mit Eiswürfel zurück. Hier sehe erst am Namensschild, dass sie eigentlich gar nicht für den Barbetrieb zuständig ist. Dass ich ausgerechnet sie angepflaumt habe, tat mir nachträglich sehr leid. Aber hierzu gibt es in einem gesonderten Kapitel mehr.

Ein Aschenbecher auf der Theke... Wir sind eh müde, deswegen verschwinden wir, bevor jemand hier wieder raucht.



An ash-tray on the bar... we were anyhow tired and so we left before someone could start to smoke.



Mein Douglas Ward ist zurück von der Brücke und ich hole ihn an der Rezeption ab. Über die guten Wünsche des Kapitäns freue ich mich sehr.



My Douglas Ward was back from the bridge and so I went to the reception to collect it. We were glad to read of the good wishes of the Captain.

Debarkation information you need to get yourself at the front desk. They did not deliver such important information to your cabin.



Ausschiffungsinformationen muss man sich auch selbst an der Rezeption besorgen. In die Kabinen werden solch wichtige Informationen nicht gebracht.

Ein Concièrge... womit kann man ihn auf einer Partynacht beschäftigen??? Mit dieser Frage gehe ich ins Bett...
