Die Reise beginnt dieses Mal in Ludwigshafen bei BASF. Im Feierabendhaus essen wir im Pop-Up-Restaurant Mahlzeit. Die Frühlingsrollen entsprechen nicht unbedingt dem asiatischen Geschmack.



This time, the journey begins at BASF (the world's largest chemical company) in Ludwigshafen, Germany. At the Feierabendhaus, we dine at the pop-up restaurant Mahlzeit. The spring rolls do not exactly cater to the Asian palate.

I am an ardent fan of the “Concours Grand Prix Eurovision de la chanson” — though not necessarily of the “Eurovision Song Contest” itself. I absolutely love the WDR Funkhausorchester (Cologne Radio Orchestra). When it was confirmed that they would be performing in Ludwigshafen to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Grand Prix, I simply had to get tickets. The vocalists for the evening are Katja Friedenberg and Jonas Hein. The event is hosted by Benni Bauerndick from Cologne Radio station 1Live — a choice that promises a highly entertaining evening. Two fellow travelers, Stefan and Martin, have already joined us. I have known Stefan since my time in Goslar. Both of them serve as excellent arguments in favor of Facebook: it allows us to keep in touch, helps us avoid losing sight of one another, and helps us discover shared interests.



Ich bin ein glühender Fan des "Concours Grand Prix Eurovision de la chanson", aber nicht unbedingt des "Eurovision Song Contest". Ich liebe das WDR Funkhausorchester. Als feststand, dass es in Ludwigshafen gastiert, um den 70. Geburtstag des Grand Prix zu feiern, musste ich mir unbedingt Karten besorgen. Es singen Katja Friedenberg und Jonas Hein. Moderiert wird die Veranstaltung von Benni Bauerndick vom WDR-Sender 1Live. Dadurch wird es sehr kurzweilig. Mit uns sind bereits zwei Mitreisende, Stefan und Martin. Stefan kenne ich seit meiner Zeit in Goslar. Beide sind sehr gute Argumente für Facebook, um sich nicht aus den Augen zu verlieren, in Kontakt zu bleiben und gemeinsame Interessen zu entdecken.

Das neueste Lied stammt aus dem Jahr 2018 ("You Let Me Walk Alone" von Michael Schulte). Bis auf "Rise Like a Phoenix" von Conchita Wurst gefallen mir alle anderen Stücke, die heute Abend gespielt werden. Nicht nur die gewonnenen Lieder werden gespielt, sondern auch solche, die als Pausenakte eingesetzt wurden, etwa "Riverdance" (1994). Bei "Merci, Chérie" von Udo Jürgens (1966), "Wunder gibt es immer wieder" von Katja Ebstein (1970), "Ein bisschen Frieden" von Nicole (1982), "Ne partez pas sans moi" von Céline Dion (1988), "Why Me?" von Linda Martin (1992), "Love Shine a Light" von Katrina and the Waves (1997), "Fly on the Wings of Love" von Olsen Brothers (2000) beweise ich meinen Begleitern meine Textsicherheit. Allerdings nicht die Sicherheit, den passenden Ton zu treffen und zu halten.



The most recent song dates back to 2018 ("You Let Me Walk Alone" by Michael Schulte). With the exception of "Rise Like a Phoenix" by Conchita Wurst, I enjoy all the other pieces being performed this evening. Not only are the winning songs being played, but also those that served as interval acts—such as "Riverdance" (1994). During "Merci, Chérie" by Udo Jürgens (1966), "Wunder gibt es immer wieder" by Katja Ebstein (1970), "Ein bisschen Frieden" by Nicole (1982), "Ne partez pas sans moi" by Céline Dion (1988), "Why Me?" by Linda Martin (1992), "Love Shine a Light" by Katrina and the Waves (1997), and "Fly on the Wings of Love" by the Olsen Brothers (2000), I demonstrate my lyrical prowess to my companions. However, I do not demonstrate the ability to hit and hold the right notes.



Zuvor war alles in Violett, daher passt es wunderbar, dass wir in Frankfurt im Moxy im Gateway Gardens übernachten.



Previously, everything was purple, so it fits perfectly that we are staying at the Moxy in Gateway Gardens in Frankfurt.

Our flight departs very early from Terminal 2 — just a few days before our airline was due to move to the new Terminal 3. I tried to book a large-capacity taxi for the five of us through two local taxi companies. One company wrote back to inform me that I would definitely need two separate vehicles. I decided to book via FreeNow instead, leaving the search process up to them. However, they made no effort at all; instead, I received two vouchers worth 30 EUR in compensation (under their "airport guarantee"). When I tried to redeem one of them, naturally, no taxi showed up — because the voucher was only valid for "Saver" rides. There is a taxi stand right outside the hotel, and taking two separate taxis would actually work out cheaper than a single large-capacity vehicle anyway. We’ll be at Terminal 2 in five minutes.



Unser Flug geht sehr früh ab vom Terminal 2. Wenige Tage, bevor unsere Fluggesellschaft in das neue Terminal 3 umgezogen war. Ich habe versucht bei zwei lokalen Taxiunternehmen ein Großraumtaxi für uns fünf zu bestellen. Ein Unternehmen schreibt mir, dass ich unbedingt zwei Fahrzeuge bräuchte. Ich buche über FreeNow und überlasse ihnen die Suche. Aber die machen sich gar keine Mühe und stattdessen bekomme ich als Entschädigung zwei Gutscheine im Wert von 30 EUR (als Flughafengarantie). Als ich ihn einlösen will, kommt natürlich auch kein Taxi, da der Gutschein für "Saver"-Fahrten gilt. Vor dem Hotel gibt es einen Taxistand, und zwei Taxis wären sogar günstiger als ein Großraumtaxi. In fünf Minuten sind wir am Terminal 2.

Ein Teil der Fluggesellschaften ist bereits umgezogen. Daher ist es sehr ruhig. Es ist keine Lounge. Es ist weder eine Bar noch ein Restaurant geöffnet. Nur der Duty Free Shop. Aber hier macht sich in den Regalen auch schon gähnende Leere breit. Eine Mitarbeiterin ist so nett und besorgt mir Kaffee aus dem Personalautomaten. Wir werden mit dem Bus zum Flugzeug gefahren. Ich überzeuge mich davon, dass der Fahrer auch weiß, wie er fahren muss, nachdem in den letzten Tagen so viele Unfälle auf den Vorfeldern der Welt passiert sind. Also hoffe ich, dass nichts passiert. Unterwegs sehe ich ein Condor-Flugzeug in der Sonderlackierung der Eintracht Frankfurt.



Some of the airlines have already relocated. Consequently, it is very quiet. There is no lounge. Neither a bar nor a restaurant is open—only the duty-free shop. But even there, the shelves are already looking eerily bare. A staff member is kind enough to fetch me a coffee from the employee vending machine. We are taken to the aircraft by bus. I make sure to verify that the driver actually knows where he is going, given the number of accidents on airport aprons around the world in recent days. So, I hope that nothing goes wrong. On the way, I spot a Condor aircraft sporting the special Eintracht Frankfurt (local football club) livery.

The Business Class tickets on British Airways were so affordable that we booked them right on the spot. I wanted to test what would happen if I ordered a non-vegetarian Hindu meal for breakfast. However, I ended up receiving the vegetarian Hindu meal instead. I found it to be quite spicy. I had also pre-ordered a specific item. The sausage sandwich from "The Jolly Hog," however, was supposedly only available on flights departing from Heathrow. Since the aircraft had overnighted in Frankfurt and we were flying *to* Heathrow, I was curious to see what would happen—especially since I had already paid for the sandwich in advance. I did, in fact, receive the sandwich: it had clearly been sitting in storage a bit longer, and baked a bit longer, too. It wasn't exactly thrilling. My T-shirt actually drew some attention. I watch a lot of videos by Petter Hörnfeldt — specifically his "Mentour Pilot" series — to prepare myself for potential in-flight incidents and to be ready to step in for an incapacitated pilot, should the need arise. To support his work, I bought two aviation-themed T-shirts. One of the flight attendants noticed it and struck up a conversation with me about it. The tomato juice in Business Class didn't taste very good. So, I paid extra for the Virgin Mary mix from Longbottom & Co. I used to love that stuff and always enjoyed buying it. But it seems they’ve changed the recipe, and now I don't care for the taste anymore.



Die Business-Class-Tickets bei British Airways waren so günstig, dass wir sie direkt dort gebucht haben. Ich wollte mal testen, was passiert, wenn ich zum Frühstück eine nicht-vegetarische hinduistische Mahlzeit nehme. Ich bekomme allerdings die vegetarische Hindu-Mahlzeit. Ich fand es doch recht scharf. Ich hatte auch etwas vorbestellt. Das Saussage-Sandwich von "The Jolly Hog" sollte allerdings nur auf Flügen ab Heathrow angeboten werden. Da das Flugzeug über Nacht in Frankfurt stand und wir nach Heathrow fliegen, war ich gespannt, ob was passiert, da ich ja das Sandwich schon bezahlen musste. Ich bekam tatsächlich das Sandwich: etwas länger gelagert, etwas länger aufgebacken. So aufregend war es nicht. Ich falle durch mein T-Shirt auf. Ich gucke ja viele Videos von Petter Hörnfeldts "Mentour Pilot" an, um mich auf evtl. Ereignisse vorzubereiten und ggf. für einen kranken Piloten einspringen zu können. Um seine Arbeit zu unterstützen, habe ich zwei T-Shirts gekauft, die mit der Fliegerei zu tun haben. Das fällt einem Steward auf und man wird darauf angesprochen. Der Tomatensaft der Business Class schmeckt nicht. So bezahle ich für den Virgin Mary-Mix von Longbottom & Co. Den habe ich geliebt und immer gerne gekauft. Aber sie haben wohl die Rezeptur geändert, und er schmeckt mir nicht mehr.

Normalerweise hatten wir bisher immer nur den tollen Blick beim Anflug auf London, wenn wir rechts saßen, aber warum auch immer liegt uns London heute links zu Füßen. Vor kurzem haben wir ja noch nach der SKY PRINCESS 2026-Reise im Schloss Windsor gefragt. Jetzt sehe ich es von oben. Ein sehr schöner Anflug. Nur die Wolken hätten weg sein dürfen, um es noch besser zu sehen.



Usually, we’ve only ever enjoyed that fantastic view during the approach to London when sitting on the right — but for some reason, today London lies spread out beneath us on the left. Just recently, after all, we were inquiring about the SKY PRINCESS 2026 voyage to Windsor Castle. Now, I’m seeing it from above. A truly beautiful approach — though the clouds really could have cleared away so we could see it even better.

Since 2022, the Elizabeth Line has traveled directly to Heathrow Airport. We can travel as far as Bond Street without changing trains. To use the service, we simply need a contactless credit card, which we must tap against the card reader before boarding and after alighting.



Seit 2022 fährt die Elizabeth Line direkt zum Flughafen Heathrow. Ohne Umsteigen können wir bis Bond Street fahren. Für die Nutzung benötigen wir nur eine kontaktlose Kreditkarte, die wir vor dem Einsteigen und nach dem Aussteigen am Kartenleser gegenhalten müssen.

Mit meinen IHG-Punkten haben wir im Hotel Welbeck gebucht. Wenn es die Punkte zum "Halbpreis" gibt, ist es oft günstiger. Es liegt in einer ruhigen Seitenstraße unweit des U-Bahnhofs Bond Street. Uns gefällt das Hotel sehr gut. Vor allem aber die freundlichen Mitarbeiter am Empfang. Jedes Mal, wenn einer von uns warten musste, weil etwas noch nicht bereit war, wurde man platziert und eine Erfrischung gereicht.



We booked our stay at the Hotel Welbeck using my IHG points. It is often more economical to do so when points are available at "half price." The hotel is situated on a quiet side street, close to Bond Street tube station. We like the hotel very much — and, above all, the friendly staff at the front desk. Whenever one of us had to wait because something wasn't quite ready, we were seated and offered refreshments.

The power outlets reflect the hotel's philosophy: UK, US, and Euro-style sockets. You simply couldn't delight a guest any more than that. Everything else is spot on, too. We really liked the room.

Die Central Line der U-Bahn bringt uns direkt zum Bahnhof Bank. Von hier laufen wir in ein paar Minuten bis zum "Walkie-Talkie" oder, bürgerlich, zum Sky Garden.



The Central Line of the Underground takes us directly to Bank Station. From there, it’s just a few minutes' walk to the "Walkie-Talkie" — or, more formally, the Sky Garden.

Here we meet up with our regular guide of Britain's Best Guides, Ulla Thiessen — whom we have hired on several previous occasions: OCEAN PRINCESS 2015, QUEEN MARY 2 2017, QUEEN MARY 2 2022, SKY PRINCESS 2026. From up here, she points out the various London landmarks visible to us. When we first arrive, a section is closed off for a yoga session, though it opens up later—as does the open-air terrace. Admission is free, but you still need to obtain tickets in advance.



Hier treffen wir uns mit unserer Stammführerin von Britain's Best Guides: Ulla Thiessen, die wir bereits mehrfach als Führerin engagiert haben: OCEAN PRINCESS 2015, QUEEN MARY 2 2017, QUEEN MARY 2 2022, SKY PRINCESS 2026. Sie erklärt uns von hier oben, welche Attraktionen Londons wir hier sehen können. Als wir ankommen, ist ein Teil wegen eines Yoga-Trainings gesperrt, später ist er jedoch geöffnet. Genauso wie die offene Terrasse. Der Eintritt ist hier kostenlos, aber man muss sich dennoch vorher Tickets besorgen.

Wir "frühstücken" im Darwin Restaurant. Ich wollte eigentlich hier zum Mittagessen. Aber am Wochenende wird hier nur Brunch für 50 GBP pro Person serviert. Also buche ich die vorletzte Möglichkeit für ein Frühstück und so genießen wir neben der Aussicht noch ein schönes Frühstück.



We are having "breakfast" at the Darwin Restaurant this morning. Originally, I had planned to come here for lunch, but since they only serve brunch on weekends for 50 GBP per person, I changed my plan. I booked the second-to-last available breakfast slot so we could still enjoy a lovely meal with the view.

It is not a particularly long walk to the Tower of London.



Bis zum Londoner Tower ist es nicht besonders weit zu laufen.

Nicht ganz im Fokus der Touristen, aber nur einmal um die Ecke, liegen die St Katharine Docks. Hier klettern Stefan und Martin ins Körbchen. Leider ist der Korb zu schwer, damit Ulla ihn anheben und als Rotkäppchen durch London tragen kann.



Not quite in the tourist spotlight — yet just around the corner — lie St Katharine Docks. Here, Stefan and Martin climb into the basket. Unfortunately, the basket is too heavy for Ulla to lift and carry through London like Little Red Riding Hood.

For just 2 GBP (2026), you can take the Heritage T15 bus instead of a modern bus, which will take you directly to Trafalgar Square. In my childhood, I used to ride on open-platform buses with rear decks. It does not count towards the fare cap for London public transport (Central London: 10.50 GBP (2026)).



Für nur 2 GBP (2026) kann man statt eines zeitgemäßen Busses mit dem Oldtimerbus T15 fahren, der uns direkt zum Trafalgar Square bringt. In meiner Kindheit bin ich noch mit offenen Bussen mit Heckplattform gefahren. Er zählt nicht für die Preiskappung beim Londoner Stadtverkehr (Central London: 10,50 GBP (2026)).

Wir sehen uns um den Trafalgar Square. Aber da es vor der Nationalgallerie eine Demonstration gibt, halten wir lieber Abstand.



We are looking around Trafalgar Square. But since there is a demonstration in front of the National Gallery, we prefer to keep our distance.

Since April 29, 2026, a statue of a man in a suit — with a flag covering his face and teetering on the verge of falling — has stood in Waterloo Square. The installation appeared overnight and, as it later turned out, was the work of Banksy. Since Ulla believes it is only a matter of time before it is gone again, we should definitely seize the opportunity to go see it.

Die Installation erfolgte über Nacht und, wie sich später herausstellte, war sie von Banksy. Da Ulla meint, dass es nur eine Frage der Zeit ist, bis sie wieder weg ist, sollten wir unbedingt die Gelegenheit nutzen, sie zu sehen.

Weiter geht es in Richtung des Buckingham Palaces. Genau wie in Edinburgh wird die Straße, die zum Schloss führt, als "The Mall" bezeichnet. Hier kann man daher nicht einkaufen. Vorbei geht es an einer Statue, die an "Queen Mum" (= Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother) erinnert.



We continue on towards Buckingham Palace. Just as in Edinburgh, the road leading to the palace is called "The Mall." Consequently, you cannot go shopping here. We pass by a statue commemorating "Queen Mum" (Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother).

However, before we reach the palace, we turn off, as otherwise it would take up much more time and distance. Thus, we see the palace only from a distance. But there is so much to discover in London. We will certainly make up for that another time. We walk through St. James's Park. There are some very beautiful views here, too.



Bevor wir jedoch den Palast erreichen, biegen wir ab, da es sonst sehr viel mehr Zeit und Strecke in Anspruch nehmen würde. So sehen wir den Palast nur aus einiger Entfernung. Aber es gibt in Londo so viel zu entdecken. Das werden wir bestimmt ein anderes Mal nachholen. Wir laufen durch den St. James Park. Hier hat man auch sehr schöne Ausblicke.

Auf der anderen Seite stehen wir dann vor der Westminster Abbey, Der Westminster Palast ist das Parlamentsgebäude des Vereinigten Königreichs. Im Gegensatz zu Wales, Schottland und Nordirland gibt es für England kein Regionalparlament.



On the other side, we stand before Westminster Abbey — the Parliament building of the United Kingdom is in the Palace of Westminster. Unlike Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, England does not have a regional parliament.

We move on to see the Elizabeth Tower. Unfortunately, we cannot hear the sound of the "Big Ben" bell because a street vendor seems to think he can boost his sales by annoying tourists with his boombox. There is never a police officer around when you need one. Although everyone uses a smartphone these days, a few English phone booths — situated right in the line of sight of the Elizabeth Tower — have remained standing, serving as the perfect photo spots for Instagrammers. They line up patiently.



Weiter geht es, um den Elizabeth-Tower zu sehen. Leider können wir den Ton der Glocke "Big Ben" nicht hören, weil ein Straßenhändler meint, dass er mit seinem Ghettoblaster mehr Umsatz macht, wenn er die Touristen stört. Nie ist ein Polizist da, wenn man ihn braucht. Obwohl mittlerweile jeder ein Smartphone nutzt, blieben einige englische Telefonzellen, die in der Blickachse der Elizabeth Towers liegen, für die perfekten Fotos der Instagrammer. Geduldig stellen sie sich an.

Wir nutzen gerne die privaten Führungen, um selbst zu entscheiden, wie wir unsere Zeit einteilen. Da wir alle heute Morgen gegen 04:00 Uhr aufgestanden sind, merken wir, dass wir in unserem Alter doch mal ein Päuschen brauchen, um die Füße hochzulegen. Deswegen bitten wir Ulla darum, dass wir ein schönes Ende für die Tour finden und die fehlenden Sachen uns beim nächsten Mal ansehen können. Die britisch-australischen Künstler Gillie und Marc haben die "Friendship Bench" auf dem Cavendish Square geschaffen. Es ist das perfekte Ende einer fantastischen Tour. Wir hatten perfektes Wetter und eine super Führung durch London. Kann man London noch schöner erleben? Wenige Gehminuten trennen uns von unserem Hotel. Tschüss, Ulla! Bis zum nächsten Mal.



We enjoy opting for private tours so that we can decide for ourselves how to structure our time. Since we all got up around 04:00 hrs. this morning, we realize that — at our age — we really do need a little break to put our feet up. Consequently, we ask Ulla if we can bring the tour to a pleasant close now and save the remaining sights for our next visit. The British-Australian artists Gillie and Marc created the "Friendship Bench" on Cavendish Square. It makes for the perfect ending to a fantastic tour. We enjoyed perfect weather and a superb guided tour of London. Could experiencing London be any more wonderful? We are just a few minutes' walk away from our hotel. Goodbye, Ulla! Until next time.

After a short break, we’re already back on the move. I try to persuade someone in the group to do a Daniel Craig-as-James-Bond-007 impression from “Skyfall” and slide down the escalator. They refuse.



Nach einer kurzen Pause geht es auch schon weiter. Ich versuche einen aus der Gruppe dazu zu überreden, es wie Daniel Craig als James Bond 007 in "Skyfall" nachzumachen und die Rolltreppe runterzurutschen. Sie weigern sich.



Due to the bankruptcy proceedings, there is currently only one Jamie Oliver restaurant left in England: Jamie Oliver, Catherine Street. We had never been there before. However, it worked out perfectly, as it is located just two minutes from the theater. A nice atmosphere. Typically London prices. I absolutely love Scotch eggs. Here, however, black pudding was used for the coating. I like that too—though I prefer to eat them separately rather than combined like this. I also couldn't say no to the Shepherd's Pie. That, however, was the stuff of Shepherd's Pie dreams: it wasn't just a mass of minced meat, but rather a lamb ragout in a red wine sauce.



Aufgrund des Konkursverfahrens gibt es derzeit in England nur ein Jamie-Oliver-Restaurant: Jamie Oliver Catherine Street. Hier waren wir noch nie. Es passt aber wunderbar, weil es nur 2 Minuten vom Theater entfernt ist. Nettes Ambiente. Typisch Londoner Preise. Ich liebe ja Scotch Egg. Hier wurde allerdings Black Pudding als Umhüllung verwendet. Das mag ich auch, aber lieber getrennt als so zusammen. Bei Shepherd's Pie konnte ich auch nicht nein sagen. Das war allerdings der Traum eines Shepherd's Pie: Es war keine Hackfleischmasse, sondern ein Lammragout in Rotweinsauce.

"You can dance! You can jive! Having the Time of your Life!" – Erstmalig hatte ich bei den White Nights auf der AZAMARA PURSUIT 2019 mitgetanzt. Etwas, was ich normalerweise nicht mache. Aber diese Musik von "Mamma Mia!" ist einfach ansteckend. Man bekommt gute Laune. Den Film kenne ich. Aber jetzt in London nutzen wir die Gelegenheit und erleben eine fantastische Vorstellung. Wir hatten super Plätze und blickten gerade auf die Bühne. Viele Mädels waren für den Anlass angezogen. Wir saßen in der ersten Reihe des Rangs. Wieder ging es tief runter. Hinter uns wurde beim Finale getanzt und gesungen. Ich hatte echt Angst, dass sie "abstürzen" und uns ggf. mitreißen. Ich habe noch nie erlebt, dass alle singend ein Theater verlassen und dabei lachen. Es war eine Gute-Laune-Veranstaltung. Draußen warten Rikschas und Taxis mit ABBA-Musik auf Kunden. Am Bühnenausgang kann ich ein Selfie mit "Donna", Sara Poyzer, machen.



"You can dance! You can jive! Having the time of your life!" – I had first joined in the dancing during the White Nights on AZAMARA PURSUIT 2019 — something I don't usually do. But this music of "Mamma Mia!" is simply infectious; it puts you in a great mood. I was already familiar with the movie, but now, here in London, we seized the opportunity to experience a fantastic live performance. We had excellent seats, looking directly down onto the stage. Many young women were dressed up for the occasion. We were seated in the front row of the upper circle — quite a steep drop down to the stage below. Behind us, during the finale, people were dancing and singing along. I was genuinely afraid they might "fall over the edge" — and potentially take us down with them! I have never before witnessed an entire theater audience leaving a venue while singing and laughing. It was a truly feel-good event. Outside, rickshaws and taxis — playing ABBA music — were waiting for customers. By the stage door, I even managed to snap a selfie with "Donna" (Sara Poyzer).

Actually, we are looking for the entrance to the Covent Garden tube station. Unfortunately, we only find a closed one. So, we continue walking through the West End towards Piccadilly Circus.



Eigentlich suchen wir den Eingang in den U-Bahnhof Covent Garden. Leider finden wir nur einen geschlossenen. So laufen wir weiter durch West End in Richtung Picadilly Circus.

Da wir schon heute so lange gelaufen sind, nehmen wir doch noch eine Fahrrad-Rikscha. Wir überlassen die Rikscha unseren Freunden und wollen eigentlich noch zu Fuß weiter zum Piccadilly Circus gehen, etwas fotografieren und dann mit dem Bus zurück zum Hotel. Eine andere Rikscha folgt – einmal im Leben, wie bei James Bond: "Folgen Sie der Rikscha. Möglichst unauffällig – und wenn Sie ihn nicht verlieren, ist ein Extra-Fünfer drin!" Unterwegs fiel mir ein, dass wir ja gar keinen Preis ausgemacht haben. Der Fahrer guckt mich verständnislos an: na gut, er wusste ja nicht, wohin wir fahren. Wir schon. Im Hotel sind wir fix und fertig und schlafen sofort ein. Und zum Glück können wir morgen mal ausschlafen.



Since we’ve already done so much walking today, let’s just take a bicycle rickshaw. We hand the rickshaw over to our friends, intending to continue on foot to Piccadilly Circus ourselves — to take a few photos — and then catch a bus back to the hotel. Another rickshaw follows — a once-in-a-lifetime moment, just like in a James Bond movie: "Follow that rickshaw. Be as inconspicuous as possible — and if you don't lose him, there’s an extra fiver in it for you!" En route, it suddenly occurred to me that we hadn't actually agreed on a price. The driver looked at me blankly — fair enough; after all, he didn't know where we were going. We did, though. By the time we reached the hotel, we were absolutely exhausted and fell asleep instantly. And fortunately, we can sleep in tomorrow.

The next morning, we have breakfast at Daisy Green — an Australian chain. They have a fantastic menu, and the setting is lovely for a meal. I discovered Lamingtons — an Australian cake specialty. Andrea and Audi ensure we have a wonderful time. Unfortunately, I somehow forgot to take a selfie with them. So, I’ve booked a table again for the end of June.



Am nächsten Morgen frühstücken wir bei Daisy Green – einer australischen Kette. Sie haben eine tolle Speisekarte und hier kann man in einer sehr netten Umgebung essen. Ich entdecke Lamingtons - eine australische Kuchenspezialität. Andrea und Audi bereiten uns eine tolle Zeit. Leider habe ich irgendwie vergessen, mit ihnen ein Selfie zu machen. Also habe ich für Ende Juni nochmals einen Tisch gebucht.

Für eine Gruppenwanderung zu Hause mit ca. 30 Leuten habe ich mir mal eine "Follow Me"-Weste und eine rosa Flagge als Reiseleiter-Accessoire besorgt. Mal gucken, ob sie mir brav folgen. Ich habe über Minicabs ein Fahrzeug bestellt. Das klappt absolut super: schönes Fahrzeug, absolut pünktlich. Aufgrund der Demonstrationen müssen wir allerdings Umwege nehmen. Daher sollte man am Wochenende keinesfalls die Fahrzeit über Google planen. Trotzdem schaffen wir es pünktlich am Bahnhof Waterloo. In dem Augenblick, als wir kommen, wird die Bahnsteigsperre geöffnet.



For a group hike back home involving about 30 people, I once picked up a "Follow Me" vest and a pink flag to use as tour guide accessories. We'll see if they follow me obediently. I booked a vehicle through Minicabs. It worked out absolutely perfectly: a nice vehicle, and completely punctual. However, due to demonstrations, we have to take some detours. For that reason, you definitely shouldn't rely on Google to estimate travel times on the weekend. Nevertheless, we manage to arrive at Waterloo Station right on time. The very moment we pull up, the platform barriers are opened.

For the journey, I pick up a few Cornish Pasties from the West Cornwall Pasty Co. — something we remember from our trip to Cornwall after our cruise on OCEAN PRINCESS 2015. Since they are huge, we share them. I purchased the train tickets from South Western Railway on the very first day they went on sale: 16.60 GBP. I managed to secure five of the six tickets available at that price. Had I bought one today, it would have cost 91.50 GBP as a Flex ticket. It isn't just DB InfraGO (Germany’s Rail Infrastructure Company) that is carrying out construction work; today, the journey takes half an hour longer than usual because the direct line between London and Southampton is closed, meaning we first have to head towards Portsmouth before turning back towards Southampton.



Für die Fahrt besorge ich ein paar Cornish Pasties bei West Cornwall Pasty Co., die wir von der Cornwall-Reise nach der OCEAN PRINCESS 2015 kennen. Da sie riesig sind, teilen wir sie auf. Ich habe am 1. Verkaufstag die Tickets für die Bahnfahrt bei South Western Railway gekauft: 16,60 GBP. 5 von 6 verfügbaren Tickets zu diesem Preis konnte ich kaufen. Heute hätte es als Flex-Ticket 91,50 GBP gekostet. Nicht nur bei DB InfraGO wird gebaut. Heute dauert die Fahrt eine halbe Stunde länger als gewöhnlich, da die direkte Strecke zwischen London und Southampton gesperrt ist und wir erst mal in Richtung Portsmouth fahren müssen, bevor wir wieder in Richtung Southampton abbiegen.

Zuletzt klappte es bei Radio Taxi Southampton gut, als wir zur QUEEN ANNE 2026 unterwegs waren. Heute läuft alles "sch...". Ich wollte eigentlich einen Van, aber das war so teuer, dass ich dann lieber zwei kleinere Fahrzeuge bestellen wollte. Es ist jedoch nicht erlaubt, zwei Fahrzeuge gleichzeitig zu bestellen. Also muss ich anrufen und mich rechtfertigen, warum ich zwei Fahrzeuge brauche. Eigentlich habe ich eine Kreditkarte hinterlegt. Das erste Fahrzeug ist pünktlich, und es wird dafür abgerechnet. Das zweite Fahrzeug lässt auf sich warten. Der Fahrer meldet sich und ich merke, dass wir wohl nicht miteinander auskommen. Wir stehen am unteren Ausgang, er am oberen. Er mault dann, dass ich darauf bestehe, dass er runterkommen soll. Sehr ärgerlich: Vor dem Taxi hätten zwei Vans ohne Vorbestellung gestanden, und ich hätte mir das Theater ersparen können. Hätte ich die benutzt, hätte ich die Ausfahrt der MAJESTICS PRINCESS fotografieren können. Nun muss ich mir von unserem Fahrer anhören, warum ich mich darüber aufrege, dass wir später am Hotel ankommen. Ich hätte ja wohl keinen Geschäftstermin, deswegen kann es mir doch egal sein, wann er kommt. Da ich nicht annehme, dass es zielführend ist, widerspreche ich nicht. Wenn das Hotel für uns einen Van für den nächsten Tag bestellt, müssen wir für eine kürzere Strecke nur 15 GBP zahlen.



Things went smoothly with Radio Taxi Southampton last time, when we were heading to QUEEN ANNE 2026. Today, however, everything is going to "sh...". I originally wanted a van, but it was so expensive that I decided to book two smaller vehicles instead. However, you aren't allowed to book two vehicles at the same time. So, I have to call and justify why I need two cars. I actually have a credit card on file with them. The first vehicle arrives on time, and I get charged for it. The second vehicle is nowhere to be seen. The driver finally gets in touch, and I can tell right away that we probably won't get along. We are standing at the lower exit, while he is up at the upper one. He then grumbles about the fact that I’m insisting he come down to us. It’s incredibly annoying: right in front of the taxi stand, there were two vans waiting — no advance booking required — and I could have spared myself this whole ordeal. If I had just taken one of those, I would have been able to photograph MAJESTIC PRINCESS as she departed. Now, I have to listen to our driver lecture me on why I’m getting so worked up about arriving at our hotel late. Apparently, since I don't have a business appointment, it shouldn't matter to me when he shows up. Since I don't think arguing with him would be productive, I simply don't say a word. When the hotel books a van for us for the following day, we only have to pay 15 EUR for a shorter journey.



Das Holiday Inn in Southampton ist endlich fertig renoviert und heißt jetzt Voco. Endlich laufen beide Fahrstühle. Allerdings nicht unbedingt besser als zuvor. Die Zimmer wurden sehr schön renoviert. Nur ich muss, wie zuvor, meine Kamera nach oben halten, um die Schiffe zu fotografieren. Die Betten, vor allem das Bad sowie die Heizung, sind sehr schön geworden. Der Empfang durch Sue ist sehr heiter und freundlich.



The Holiday Inn in Southampton has finally completed its renovations and is now called Voco. Both elevators are finally operational—though not necessarily any better than before. The rooms have been beautifully renovated. However, just as before, I still have to hold my camera up high to take photos of the ships. The beds — and especially the bathroom and heating system — have turned out very nicely. Sue's welcome was very cheerful and friendly.

That way, I can watch ARVIA depart from the window.

Wie schon vor der Reise auf der SKY PRINCESS 2026 essen wir wieder bei M' Dim Sum. Wir essen dieses Mal Pekingente als Hauptgericht. Es wird so bereitgestellt, wie ich es gewohnt bin: Die Haut, die Teigfladen, die Hoisin-Sauce, die Lauch- und Gurkenstreifen. Laut Google sollte es noch ein gutes chinesisches Restaurant mit Dim Sum geben. Heute habe ich es entdeckt. Es ist unscheinbar, weil es in der 1. Etage liegt. Dann können wir Ende Juni testen, wer von beiden der bessere ist.



Just as before our voyage on SKY PRINCESS 2026, we are dining at M' Dim Sum again, this time having my usual Peking duck with all its expected accompaniments. I found another, less noticeable dim sum spot nearby that we'll try at the end of June to compare.

On the way, we pick up a Mint Cornetto for dessert — very refreshing. It must come from our home region: from their factory in Heppenheim. They used to produce for the entire European market, though perhaps that has changed since Brexit.



Unterwegs kaufen wir noch ein Cornetto Minze als Dessert: sehr erfrischend. Müsste aus unserer Heimat kommen: aus deren Fabrik in Heppenheim. Früher haben sie für den gesamten europäischen Markt produziert, aber vielleicht hat sich das seit dem Brexit ja geändert.
