Tag/Day 1.3 auf der/on EUROPA in Hamburg, Germany

Ich hatte von einem Moment auf den anderen keine Lust mehr: Grund war diese Anmerkung im Tagesprogramm. Ich mag solche Überraschungen nicht und bin der Meinung, dass man so etwas vorher klar kommunizieren konnte. Der Blog ist Teil meiner Erlebnisse und mit dieser Anmerkung haben sie auf jeden Mal einen Großteil meiner Freude zerstört. So etwas muss man vorher kommunizieren und mir die Gelegenheit geben auch zurückzutreten. Sie sind nicht Teil der Allgemeinen Reisebedingungen, denen ich mich unterworfen habe. Ich gehe aber davon aus, dass sie uns schlecht verbieten können, Bilder von uns zu machen. Wir hatten ja eh nicht die Absicht großartig auf dem Lido-Deck uns zwischen den Ständen aufzuhalten. Also mache ich das Beste daraus. Für 550,00 EUR muss es Spaß machen, auch wenn es einem nicht gefällt. Aber ich freue mich wieder auf eine Kreuzfahrt, die sich darüber freuen, wenn ich so intensiv über die Reise blogge und Anreize schaffen, damit ich bald ja wieder komme.



From one moment to the next I did not like to stay anymore: Reason was this remark in the daily programme (They do not allow you to post any pictures of the night in the internet). I dislike such surprises and I think that you must communicate it ahead very clear. The blog is part of my experience and with this remark they destroyed the very first time my joy. You need to tell such things before and give me the chance to cancel. They are no part of the small prints which I accepted. I assume that they cannot forbid us to take pictures of ourselves. We did not anyway have a major intention to stay on the Lido-Deck and walk around the booths. So I made the best I could do. For 600.00 USD you must have fun even you did not like it. But I was looking forward to a cruise where they are happy to see me blogging so much and to made me coming back and cruise again.

Anyhow the celebrity chefs were announced very early. I had to admit: I knew Cornelia Paletto and Ali Güngörmüs from the TV without having dining with them in my life. Due to a thankful report of Ali Güngörmüs I like to go to have pizza in the Restaurant Eisenstein in the former Altona Screw Manufactuary. For Germany it was really good. Bafetto in Rome, Italy or Da Michele in Naples, Italy are still better and as good as you can find with Vapiano (German pizza-chain. There you could easily say how you would like it most...) but with service at the table. Dieter Müller I knew by name because I am reading the catalogues of Hapag-Lloyd and all the others were unknown to me. All others I heared of them: Thorsten Gillert, Thomas Martin, Karlheinz Hauser, Christoph Rüffer and Heinz Wehmann. There are cheap daytrips where you have to make a stop for a sales event but have your coffee (and lunch) for free. You call such tours in German "Kaffeefahrt" (Coffee tour). It reminded to me like a coffee tour for rich people. A real cross-selling-sales event. Where you have good food good wine should not be too far away. So some vinyards were presenting themselves at some booths.



Nun die Star-Köche standen recht früh fest. Ich gebe zu: ich kenne Cornelia Paletto und Ali Güngörmüs aus dem Fernsehen, ohne dass ich je im Leben bei ihnen essen war. Dank eines Beitrags von Ali Güngörmüs gehe ich allerdings gerne im Restaurant Eisenstein in der ehemaligen Altonaer Schraubenfabrik Pizza essen. Für Deutschland echt gut. Bafetto in Rom bzw. Da Michele in Neapel sind immer noch besser, und auch einem gleich guten Niveau wie Vapiano (Da sage ich denen aber auch immer, wie ich es am Liebsten hätte...), aber eben mit Bedienung am Tisch. Dieter Müller kenne ich vom Namen her, weil ich die Kataloge von Hapag-Lloyd lese und den Rest kenne ich nicht. Die anderen kenne ich vom hören sagen her: Thorsten Gillert, Thomas Martin, Karlheinz Hauser, Christoph Rüffer und Heinz Wehmann. Das ganze erinnerte eher an eine Kaffeefahrt für Reiche - eine echte Cross-Selling-Veranstaltung. Wo gutes Essen ist, darf guter Wein nicht fehlen. So sind auch ein paar Winzer mit ihren Ständen vertreten.

Wir machen einfach ein paar Selfies von uns. Die Musik war gut, eigentlich mein Geschmack. Nur war es mir zu voll und zu kruschelig. Wenn das jetzt jemand von dem Unternehmen liest, bei dem ich mich im Outplacement befinde: ich soll netzwerken und auf die anderen zugehen, aber ich verschwinde lieber bei solchen Veranstaltungen in die Ecke und habe meine Ruhe.



We simply made some selfies of us. The music was good. Actually it was my taste. But it was too full and crowded. If someone from the company would read this I am actually taking park of the outplacement: I should start to network and start to speak with others but I prefer to disappear with such events to any back corner and I like it to have it more calm.

The next surprise was found in the daily programme and so it was the next anger was preprogrammed: there was an option to the white dinner dresses. It was not mentioned in the flyer... and more angry: even you asked with Hapag-Lloyd you had no answer: This part of my request was just ignored. And this was most angry: we could have saved the money for a new dinner jacket for Bruno and there was no need to drive to the Brunswick port district at the other end of the city to rent a dinner jacket.



Die nächste Überraschung im Tagesprogramm und damit auch der nächste Ärger war vorprogrammiert: es gab also eine Alternative zur weißen Abendgarderobe. Die stand bloß nicht in dem Flyer... und noch ärgerlicher: auch auf Anfrage bei Hapag-Lloyd gab es keine Antwort: Diesen Teil der Anfrage wurde schlicht und einfach ignoriert. Und daher am meisten ärgerlich: wir hätten uns das Geld für das weiße Dinnerjacket von Bruno uns sparen können und ich hätte nicht in den Braunschweiger Hafen am Ende der Stadt fahren müssen, um mir ein Dinnerjacket auszuleihen.

Auf dem Pool-Deck haben wir so zehn Minuten "herumgelungert" und trotz Annäherung an die Getränkeausgabe gab es für uns nichts. Das war nämlich so, dass viele Kellner und Gäste sich kannten. Es ging also nicht so richtig vorwärts und man hielt eben sein Schwätzchen, statt weiterzugehen und Getränke zu servieren. Und wenn es dann endlich weiterging, fand sich dann die nächste Gruppe, die Sonderwünsche hatte und sofort wurde abgedreht und für sie die Getränke besorgt. Gleiches galt ebenfalls für die Canapés. Man hat nun einmal keine zweite Chance einen ersten Eindruck zu hinterlassen und dieser ging leider gründlich daneben. So sind wir einfach runter zur Piano Bar gegangen. Dort erwartete uns eine weitere Überraschung, aber dieses Mal eine positive: Es gab nur Damenkarten ohne Preise. Als wir dann nachfragten, hat man uns erklärt, dass wohl alle Getränke bis zum Veranstaltungsende gegen 1.00 Uhr im Ticketpreis inbegriffen waren. Wenn sie schlau gewesen wären, dann hätten sie noch Tupperware als Cross-Selling-Partner eingeladen. Ich bin mir sicher, dass sie heute Abend so manche Getränkebehälter losgeworden wären... aber vielleicht wollte man genau das eben mit der fehlenden Information verhindern, dass sich die Veranstaltung als Flat-Sauf-Veranstaltung rumspricht. Wie gesagt: wir waren positiv überrascht.



On the pool-deck we hang around for about ten minutes and even coming closer to the beverage outlet we could not get anything. It was that many waiters and guests knew each other. So none was really interested to head on but to have a chat but to continue walking and serving beverages. And when they finally moved another group came to place their special orders and so they made immediately a u-turn and to get them their beverages. Same was with the canapé. You never have a second chance to make a first impression and this impression went totally bad. So we went down to the piano bar. There we had another surprise but a very nice one: A bar menu card for ladies without any prices. So we asked and were told that we could have all beverages until the end of the event at 01.00 hrs as all of them were included. If they would be clever they would have invited Tupperware as cross-selling partner. I am sure many beverage containers would be sold tonight... but maybe it was exactly the reason not having the information because nobody should know that it was flat-drink-party. As said we were positively surprised.

There was no paper napkins as sign that someone was already serving us: nice little textile coasters.



Es gibt keine Papierserviette als Zeichen, dass wir schon bedient werden: schöne kleine Stoffuntersetzer.

Ich bin wieder positiv überrascht, dass es hier sogar Gammel Dansk gibt. Und ausgerechnet heute Abend war ich nicht so vollgefressen, dass ich einen gebraucht hätte. Ich war über das Apotheker-Zeichen auch verwundert. Aber es gibt Sachen, die muss man einfach an Bord beim Barkeeper hinterfragen. So schön wie er kann ich den Hintergrund dieser "Medizin" nicht wiedergeben. Das ist genauso eine nette Geschichte wie der "Pharisäer" bei den Friesen oder die "Maultaschen" bei den Schwaben.



I was positively surprised again that we could have here Gammel Dansk. Just this night I was not so full that I would have need one. I was also surprised to see the sign of a Pharmacy. But there were something you need to ask the barkeeper to have an answer. As nice as he did I cannot repeat the background of the "medication". It was a nice story like the "Pharisäer" (= Pharisee) with the Frisians (= Northwest Germans from the Coast) or "Maultaschen" with the Swabenians (= Southwest Germans around Stuttgart). For Non-Germans: to avoid that someone could see that the Frisians were drinking rum they served rum in coffee cups and add a little hot coffee and whipped cream. During the period of fasting the Swabenians wanted still have their meat. So they wrapped their meat in spinach and noodle dough so the Lord could not see that they were eating meat.

So we had a good time and enjoyed our cocktails and took some selfies of ourselves.



So amüsieren wir uns hier und genießen unsere Cocktails und machen ein paar Selfies von uns.



Would I have had 20 selfie-sticks with me and sold for the double price: I could afford the deposit for another gourmet-night.



Hätte ich 20 Selfie-Sticks mitgenommen und für das doppelte verkauft: ich hätte schon glatt die Anzahlung für die 2. Gourmetnacht leisten können.

Wir hatten doch sehr viel Aufmerksamkeit erregt. Oft kam die Bemerkung "So etwas brauche ich auch!".



We attracted a lot of attention. We could hear many times "Something like this I need too!".



Ich bin nicht der große Freund von Stehtischen und Häppchen und daher war von Anfang an geplant, dass wir das Menü im Restaurant genießen. Bei der Buchung wurden unsere Wünsche abgefragt und ich habe einen Tisch für 2 bestellt. Einige Wochen später kam denn ein Brief, dass keine Reservierungen für das Restaurant akzeptiert werden und eine offene Sitzung angeboten wird. Kaum sind wir an Bord kam dann die nächste Überraschung: Bis 17.30 Uhr sollten wir doch bitte einen Tisch reservieren. Also packt Bruno weiter Koffer aus, während ich runterlaufe, um den Tisch zu reservieren. Ich gehöre nicht zu den Leuten, die in einer Schlange direkt in den Kragen meines Vordermanns ausatme und ich spüre auch nicht gerne den Atem meines Hintermanns im Nacken. Die Restaurant-Hostess bedient gerade ein Paar. Eine einzelne Dame hält einen gewissen Diskretionsabstand und ich wiederum halte zu der Dame einen Diskretionsabstand. Nun man kennt sich hier an Bord, und gibt es eben auch ein paar Geschichtchen auszutauschen und Sonderwünsche zu klären - egal ob noch jemand wartet. Während wir warten kommen neu Gäste, die unsere Warte"schlange" einfach ignorieren und wohl testen wollen welches After Shave der Gast benutzt, der gerade seine Sonderwünsche äußert... Als sie sich umdrehen, bemerken Sie wohl, dass sie gerade mit Blicken getötet wurden. Nachdem sie wiederbelebt wurden, haben Sie sich dann auch in der Diskretionszone einbefunden und haben artig gewartet...



I am not a big fan of bar tables and snacks and that what was why we always planned to enjoy the menu in the restaurant. When we booked we were asked multiple time what we would like and I ordered a table for 2. Few weeks later a letter arrived that they would not accept any bookings for the restaurant and an open seating will be offered. We just arrived on board: we need to book a table until 17.30 hrs. So Bruno contined to unpack our bags while I walked down to book a table. I am not a person who likes to breathe out into the collar of my person in front while I am queuing in a line and I dislike to feel the breath of my person in behind in my neck. The restaurant hostess were serving a couple. Another single lady kept a certain discretion distance and I kept a certain discretion distance. But here onboard each one knoww each other and you had many stories to share and you need to check for special requests - no matter if someone is waiting. While we were waiting new guests arrived who simply ignored our queue and wanted to test which after shave was used by the guest who discussed his special requests... When they turned around they could notice that were were killed by our views. After they were reanimated they moved into the discretion zone and were waiting accordingly...

We got a table for 2. When the hostess had a typo in my name she wanted to release a new card and I said that everything was fine with me and I am familiar with the situation. But with Hapag-Lloyd you do not have somthing like this although only a small bow was too many on the previous card... The company maintains a certain style. I would say too good for some guests.



Wir bekommen einen 2-er Tisch. Als sich die Mitarbeiterin bei meinem Namen verschreibt, will sie sofort eine neue Karte ausstellen und ich meine nur, dass es nicht schlimm ist, und dass ich es schon gewohnt sei. Aber bei Hapag-Lloyd gibt es so etwas nicht. Und so bekomme ich eine neue Karte, obwohl in der alten Karte nur ein kleiner Bogen zuviel war... Das Unternehmen pflegt einen gewissen Stil. Viel zu gut für manche Gäste, möchte ich mal behaupten.

Seit 2006 machen wir Kreuzfahrten und von Bruno und mir gibt so wenige gemeinsame Bilder. Das hat nun ein Ende, dank des Selfie-Sticks.



Since 2006 we are cruising and there were not so many common pictures of Bruno and me. That came to the end as we have thankfulle the selfie-stick.

Bruno was inspecting the ceiling for any loss, damages or traces of silicon or what ever... but quickly he gave up. Built in 1999 and in a very good condition.



Bruno untersucht wie üblich die Decken auf Verschleiß oder Silikon-Resten oder was auch immer... aber schnell gibt er auf. Baujahr 1999 und in einem verdammt guten Zustand.

Vom Fenster genießen wir den gleichen Anblick, wie von unserem Balkon, was daran liegt, dass unser Tisch direkt unter unserer Suite liegt.



From the window we enjoyed the same great view like from our balcony which was because our table was just under our suite.

Of course we were escorted to our table. Of course the napkin was placed on our lap. The had one unique menu and you only could deselect single courses. Only we the main course you had the option between duck or Surf and Turf. For me it was the most difficult decision to made. I picked the duck and Bruno picked the Surf and Turf.



Selbstverständlich sind wir zum Tisch eskortiert worden. Selbstverständlich wurde die Serviette uns auf den Schoß gelegt. Es gab ein Einheitsmenü, bei denen man lediglich Gänge abwählen konnte. Bei dem Hauptgang konnte man sich zwischen Ente bzw. Surf und Turf entscheiden. Für mich war es die schwierigste Entscheidung schlechthin. Ich hatte mich für Ente entschieden und Bruno für den Surf und Turf.

Was die Brotauswahl betrifft: wir sollten Verhandlungen mit Hapag-Lloyd aufnehmen, damit die EUROPA künftig auch Flußkreuzfahrten anbietet und jeden Sonntag Vormittag in Mannheim, Heidelberg, Frankfurt oder Wertheim anlegt: dann wüsste ich, wo ich jeden Sonntag Morgen hinfahren würde, um tolles Brot zu kaufen. Mein Diabetologe wird auf jeden Fall die Hände über den Kopf zusammenschlagen, wenn er den Blog liest. Aber das war auch zu lecker... Pi mal Daumen acht Brotsorten und ich habe vier geschafft zu probieren und sie waren alle gleich lecker. Das ist übrigens unser Kellner Samir: ein echt Köllsche Jung (RHEINKREUZFAHRTEN...).



Regarding the selection of bread: we should start to negotiate with Hapag-Lloyd that EUROPA should offer river cruises too and should call every Sunday morning in Mannheim, Heidelberg, Frankfurt or Wertheim: then I would know where to go every Sunday morning to buy great bread. My diabetologist would beat hands above his head if he would read my blog. But it was too yummy... Rule of thumb eight types of bread and I made four of them to try and they were all the same way yummy. By the way this was our waiter Samir: a true Cologne native (he really had a Cologne dialect and such people you call "Köllsche Jung" = Cologne Boy - best for RHINE RIVER CRUISES...).

Pop the question which you need an answer for: why did not I wear anymore a bow tie? Bruno's bow tie shrived away when I tried to close it. Somehow we caught a very central thread that we could only buried it thereafter. So he got mine since I was very much impressed by the elegance of the ship: My white Eterna-Business-Shirt I did not pack folded into a shirt container so I had everything wrinkled but hang it properly on a hanger. So I was able to show myself in an open collar shirt.



Die Fragen aller Fragen, die sich hier stellt: warum habe ich keine Fliege mehr an? Brunos Fliege hatte sich in Luft aufgelöst, als er sie versuchen wollte zuzumachen. Irgendwie hatten wir dabei so einen zentralen Faden erwischt, dass wir sie anschließend nur noch beerdigen konnten. Also bekam er meine, weil ich wohl von der Eleganz des Schiffes schwer beeindruckt: Mein weißes Eterna-Business-Hemd habe ich ausnahmsweise nicht gefaltet in die Hemdentasche gepackt, damit es darin zerknittert, sondern sauber auf einem Bügel aufgehangen hatte. So konnte ich mit offenem Hemd mich trotzdem blicken lassen.

Die schwarzen Teile hinter dem Sesambrötchen: einfach nur lecker. So eine Art Vollkorntaler.

The Amuse Guele: Terrine of goose liver with cocoa and coffee... I remembered the yellow fruit by taste but I cannot name it. Regarding the slice of Brioche bread: they treated my very "impudently": They did not give me one to go!!! I said so many time how great it was and hoped that would say that they would like to make me happy and get me a whole loaf of Brioche-bread into my cabin to have a great meal home on Sunday night. Never I will go to Brioche Dorée in Frankfurt. Anyhow when I came they never had brioche. I should have some tupperware with me to carry some to Iimori in Frankfurt. I could have show and told her and I want exactly the same bread and she whould make me one just for me.



Das Amuse Geule: Gänseleberterrine mit Kakao und Kaffee... die gelbe Frucht kannte ich vom Geschmack her, aber könnte sie hier nicht benennen. Was die Scheibe Brioche angeht: sie waren schon "unverschämt" zu mir: Ich bekam keines mit!!! Ich habe es so sehr gelobt, in der Hoffnung, dass sie sagen, dass sie mir eine Freude machen wollen und ein ganzes Brioche-Brot in meine Kabine gebracht hätten, damit ich auch am Sonntag Abend noch etwas tolles zu essen hätte. Ich gehe nie wieder zu Brioche Dorée in Frankfurt, zumal die auch nie Brioche haben, wenn ich komme. Ich hätte zumindest eine Tupperdose mithaben sollen, damit ich etwas zu Iimori in Frankfurt mitnehmen konnte. Der hätte ich dann gesagt, dass ich genauso ein Brioche haben möchte und sie hätte es mir bestimmt gebacken.

Zum Essen gab es den passenden Wein. Bruno meinte, dass er sehr gut war. Im Gegensatz zur "Halbschwester" TUI Cruises mit ihrem gepanschten Wasser aus der Karaffe konnten wir hier zwischen San Pellegrino und Acqua Panna auswählen. Da fiel die Wahl nicht schwer, weil Acqua Panna einer meiner Lieblingsmineralwasser ist.



For dinner you had the pairing wine. Bruno said it was very good. In contrast to "half-sister" TUI Cruises (Joint Venture Royal Caribbean and TUI) with their adulterated water out of carafe we could choose between San Pellegrino and Acqua Panna. Choosing was very easy because Acqua Panna is one of my most favorite mineral waters.

Then the tartare of arctic salmon of Cornelia Poletto came. Well I need to admit that I did not like her personally too much because of the advertsing for Herta meatware (Nestlé), always chased around one of my favorite TV-presenter Dennis Wilms in the kitchen and always discriminates againt the cooking teams which were cooking my preferred dishes in cooking shows when she had to judge... but unfortunately I had to say: the tartare was very nice and very yummy... And I love tartare: no matter made of salmon, tuna or beef. And if she stop chasing around Dennis Wilms in the kitchen and would give more points to the cooking teams which I like: I might give this woman a second chance...



Dann kam das Tartar vom Eismeerlachs von Cornelia Poletto. Nun ich gebe zu, dass ich sie persönlich nicht so mag, weil sie Werbung für Herta Wurst (Nestlé) macht, den armen Dennis Wilms in der Küche rumscheucht, und ständig die Kochteams, die nach meinem Geschmack kochen, in den Kochshows benachteiligt, wenn sie sie bewertet... aber leider muss ich feststellen: das Tartar war sehr fein und sehr lecker... Und ich liebe Tartar: egal ob Lachs, Thunfisch oder Rind. Also wenn sie nun Dennis Willms nicht mehr durch die Gegend scheucht und auch mal den Kochteams, die ich mag, mehr Punkte gibt, dann würde ich dieser Frau eine zweite Chance geben...

Mein Diabetologe muss jetzt mal weggucken: Die Käsebrötchen waren lecker, aber vor allem die Kräuterstangen...

What was very fascinating to me was the way they were asking: "May I get you something else to drink?". The intonationa - everything perfect. You had really difficulties to say "no" because you could see their disappointment if they cannot do anything for you. Just "Fantastique!". My Coke Light was served in a little glass jug. Some leftover was kept at the service station and you never had a chance to have an empty glass.



Was mich fasziniert, ist die Art, wie sie fragen: "Darf ich Ihnen etwas anderes zu trinken bringen?". Der Tonfall - alles perfekt. Man hat echt Schwierigkeiten "Nein" zu sagen, weil man denen so die Enttäuschung ein wenig ansieht, wenn sie für einen nichts tun dürfen. Einfach "Fantastique!". Mein Cola Light wird in einem kleinen Glaskrug serviert. Ein Rest wird immer an der Servicestation aufbewahrt und man hat gar keine Chance sein Glas leer zu trinken.

Die Weinblätter-Minze-Suppe kam von Ali Güngörmüs. Die war nur einfach gut. Sehr frisch. Ich hätte davon gerne etwas mitgenommen, um sie in 14 Tagen in Kusadasi einem Restaurant zu zeigen und zu sagen: genau das hätte ich gerne: und zwar eine ganze Terrine. Dazu gab es eine Salzwassergarnele.



The grape leaves-mint-soup was made by Ali Güngörmüs. It was simply just good. Very fresh. I really would like to take some home to show in two weeks in Kusadasi, Turkey in a restaurant and to order a whole tureen just for me. A salt water shrimp was added.

Then I need to try the Ciabatta-bread and it was good to do.



Danach musste ich das Ciabatta probieren und das war gut so.

Denn beim nächsten Gang konnte ich dann direkt den Teller von der Sauce "reinigen". Der Gang kam von Thorsten Gillert: Reh und Jakobsmuschel auf Vanille Risotto mit Pfifferlingen. Nun Reh ist leider gar nicht meins. Aber der Rest war ein Stück Schlaraffenland pur. Vanille Risotto ist sicherlich ungewöhnlich, vor allem ungewöhnlich lecker und hat nichts mit dem Müller Milchreis Vanilla zu tun...



The next course I was able to "clean" the plate off the sauce. The course was made by Thorsten Gillert: Venison and scallop on vanilla risotto with chanterelles. Well venison is not mine. But the leftover was a piece of land of milk and honey. Vanilla risotto was unusual but it was very tasty and had nothing to do with a Müller vanilla rice pudding from the super market...

Thereafter we had a sherbet course: Cassis on champagne... I said stop as I cannot stand any champagne... Samir did not know what he should excpect now: "The spiritis I have cited".



Danach gab es erstmal einen Sorbetgang: Cassis auf Champagner... ich hatte noch Stop gesagt, weil ich ja eh keinen Champagner vertrage... Samir wusste gar nicht, worauf er sich eingelassen hat: "Die Geister, die ich rief!".

Schmeckte nach Kir Royal - nur noch fruchtiger... und lecker...

... und war dann nur noch mit meinem Selfie-Stick beschäftigt...

Vielleicht sollte ich doch Wäschereileiter auf der EUROPA werden... Unsere Büglerin hat eine Falte in Brunos Smokinghemd reingebügelt... und auf der EUROPA gibt es das gleiche Problem: eine Falte war in dem Deckchen auf dem silbernen Platzteller... Da haben sich die richtigen zwei gesucht und gefunden...

Dann kam der Hauptgang... die nehmen doch tatsächlich Hummerkinder...



The the main course came... they really used lobster kids...

When my duck arrived I started to claim immediately: I did not order a kid's meal. But Samir told me that he would get me as many ducs as I liked. I took him seriously. But he refused to perpare a doggy bag for me. The main courses were from Heinz Wehmann of Landhaus Scherrer. The only place in Hamburg I wanted to go since I was a 20-years old and started as trainee with a shipping agency in Hamburg. That was simply the food that I loved: strong, cracking, rustic, regional - simply top.



Als meine Ente kommt, beschwere ich mich sofort: Ich hatte keinen Kinderteller bestellt. Aber Samir sagt, dass er mir soviel Ente holt, wie ich noch möchte. Ich nehme ihn ernst, aber er will mir nichts zum Mitnehmen fertigmachen. Die Hauptgänge kommen von Heinz Wehmann vom Landhaus Scherrer. Das einzige Restaurant in Hamburg, in das ich unbedingt mal hin will, seit dem als 20-jähriger Praktikant in der Schiffsmaklerei in Hamburg angefangen habe. Das ist einfach das Essen, dass ich liebe: kräftig, deftig, rustikal, regional - einfach Spitze.

Bruno kämpft mit dem Hummer. Übrigens der einzige Mini-Faux-Pas, der an diesem Abend passiert ist. Sogar bei NCL wird der Hummer aus der Schale gelöst.

"Nur ein winziges Schlöckchen"... Ich liebe den Film "Die Feuerzangenbowle" mit Heinz Rühmann...

Und obwohl ich nicht oben war und keine Bilder oben machen durfte, um sie hier in meinem Blog zu veröffentlichen: Ich hatte meinen Spaß!

Samir denkt, dass ich gerade am Skypen bin und winkt freundlich zu. Erst dann zeige ich ihm, dass er mit auf meinem Selfie ist.

Wie gesagt: wir hatten unseren Spaß mit dem Selfie-Stick und so entstehen komplett neue Eindrücke.



As said: we had a lot of fun with the selfie-stick and we created completely new impressions.

The bad with Eterna: they had no belly size... but this? Who cares: we had a sewing set in the suite and so we enjyed my dessert (unfortunately no credit to a celebrity chef and also not mentioned which sort was parte of the ice cream cake).



Das blöde an Eterna: die haben keine Bauchgrößen... aber das? Wen kümmert es: es ist ja Nähzeug in der Suite und so genieße ich meinen Nachtisch (leider ohne Nennung, von welchem Starkoch das kommt und leider auch ohne Nennung, um welche tolle Eissorte es sich hier handelt).

Dann kam auch schon der Zucker für den Kaffee zum Dessert.



Then the sugar for the coffee came for the dessert course.

The chocoloate cake: randy. The chocolate filled rhasberries: randy. And the ice cream: really randy.



Das Schokotörtchen: geil. Die mit Schokolade gefüllten Himbeeren: geil. Und das Eiscreme: richtig geil.

Samir Joajoui - das ist ein Nonplusultra-Service vom Allerfeinsten. Vor allem einmal passte es ja gar nicht zum Stil von Hapag-Lloyd: als ich meinte, dass ich nach dem Schluck Champagner nun betrunken sei. Da kam sein Kommentar aber herzerfrischend natürlich rüber, dass ich sehr laut darüber lachen musste. Wir haben jede Minute genossen. Das höchste Trinkgeld, das wir mal ausgezahlt haben, war im Rahmen eines Chef's Table mit 100 USD für das gesamte Team. 50 USD hat jemand bekommen, weil sie zwei Stunden vor dem offiziellen Beginn ihrer Schicht gekommen ist, um meinen Wunsch zu erfüllen, von ihr bedient zu werden. Er hatte an diesem Abend keine feste Assistentin, und auf der EUROPA wird niemals alleine auf- oder abgetragen! Daher wechselte die Besetzung. Aber man spürte den Team-Geist. Jeder war für den Gast zuständig und ansprechbar. Jeder hatte auch die Augen auf den Tischen, die er nicht gerade selbst bedient hatte. Obwohl ja kein Trinkgeld erwartet wurde, war es für uns ein größeres Trinkgeld Wert, wobei er bestimmen sollte, wie er das mit den anderen aufteilt. Wir hätten sonst Strichliste führen müssen und ich hatte Eindruck, dass die Hälfte der anwesenden Kellner uns irgendwie bedient hatte. Service, den man einmal im Leben erleben sollte und einfach nur Spaß macht. So ging es mit Vorfreude auf das Frühstück am nächsten Morgen: es sollte ja Beefsteak-Tartar und Lachs-Tartar geben.



Samir Joajoui - that was a best of best service of an ultra fine way. Especially somehow it did not fit to the style of Hapag-Lloyd: When I said that I am drunk just by one little zip of champagne. The comment he gave was so heartwarming that I needed to laugh out loud. We enjoyed every single minute. The highest tip ever we paid, was 100 USD for a great team performance of a Chef's Table for the entire team. 50 USD was for someone who came two hours early before her duty started because I requested her service. He had this night no fixed dedicated assistant and on EUROPA you never serve or clear the table alone! So the teammeber changed all the time. You could experience the team-spirit. Everyone was in charge for every guest and always available. Everyone had their eyes on tables he was not serving right now. Although no tip was expected it was worth to spend some high tip and he should decide how to allocate. We should have a dash list to see who was serving us but I had the impression half of the team was somehow in charge with us. Service you should really experience once in your life and you can simply enjoy. So were facing for the breakfast next morning: you should have beefsteak-tartare and salmon-tartare.

But they were not "nice" at all... I did not get a wheel chair which they could use to get me back to my cabin. I had to walk. As little solace I could get a piece of ginger at the exit.



Aber so "lieb" waren die auch nicht... Ich bekam keinen Rollstuhl, mit dem sie mich zurück zur Suite brachten. Ich musste laufen. Als Trost haben Sie mir am Ausgang Ingwer angeboten...

Eine große Runde machen wir auf dem Schiff nicht mehr.

Anyone knows "Ocean's 13"? There you had the "Five Diamond Award" for hotels. It is all about award for hotels like "Five Diamond Award" vom AAA. But AAA is for automobilists. But this is the Green Star Diamond Award der American Association of Hospitality Sciences for their performance in environenment-friendly processes. Later during my researches I found out that the cruise ship DEUTSCHLAND (like German version of "Love Boat" - under the management when they got the award they went meanwhile bancrupt) was awarded with the Six Star Diamond Awards. Let us see if the would set another "Ocean's 14"-movie with George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt on EUROPA - but they would obviously steal the wrong diamonds.



Kennt jemand "Ocean's 13"? Dort geht es ja um die Auszeichnung für Hotels wie "Five Diamond Award" vom AAA. Aber AAA ist ja eigentlich ein Automobilclub in den USA. Aber das ist hier der Green Star Diamond Award der American Association of Hospitality Sciences für die Leistungen im Umweltbereich gemeint. Zu meinem Erstaunen stelle ich bei meinen Recherchen später fest, dass die DEUTSCHLAND (zu Zeiten Deilmanns) noch den Six Star Diamond Awards erhalten hat. Mal gucken, ob "Ocean's 14" mit George Clooney, Matt Damon und Brad Pitt auf der EUROPA gedreht wird - aber vermutlich würden sie hier die falschen Diamanten klauen.

Wir gehen in die Kabine. Wir sind müde. Wir sind voll. Ein schöner Ausblick erwartet uns von unserem Heckbalkon.



We went to our cabin. We were tired. We were full. A nice view expeted us out of our aft cabin.

At 22.15 hrs a so-called whispering fire work should start: no idea what they were talking about? As I was not so curious I went to bed as we were up since 03.30 hrs. I just found myself in my bed and the pounding just started. I went quickly on our balcony but from our location we could not see anything. So I went back to bed and found out: few more were standing on their balconies and who were not anymore upstairs to wait for a firework. In this sense: Good Night.



Um 22.15 Uhr soll ein Flüsterfeuerwerk starten: Ist das damit gemeint? Da ich das wenig spannend finde, gehe ich kurzerhand auch ins Bett, denn schließlich bin ich seit 03.30 Uhr eigentlich wach. Kaum liege ich im Bett, geht die Knallerei losgeht und doch ein echtes Feuerwerk geboten wird. Ich gehe nochmals kurz zum Balkon, aber von uns aus, sieht man nichts. So gehe ich wieder zurück ins Bett und stelle fest: da sind wohl noch mehr, die auf den Balkonen stehen und nicht mehr oben sind und auf ein Feuerwerk warten. In diesem Sinne: Gute Nacht.
