Tag/Day 2.1 auf der/on OCEAN COUNTESS in Greenock, Scotland

Meine Nacht ist gegen 02.30 Uhr zu Ende. Wie habe ich es eigentlich hier sieben Nächte aushalten können... In der Kabine ist es hell wie am Tag...



My night was over around 02.30 hrs. I did not understand how I could stand here for seven nights. In the cabin it was as bright as it would be daylight...

Somehow there was a wide slot under the door (about 3"). So we got into our cabin not only the light of the hallway but also the smell of diesel. Furthermore I had the impression that someone was moving all the time the tail unit in and out and moved the rudder blade all the time... But I was on a ship and not in a plane. I became familiar with the vibration and it was somehow nice. Only the coil spring in my mattress was somehow remembered from our last cruise on this ship...



Denn irgendwie ist so ein Riesenschlitz unter der Tür (ca. 5 cm). So dringt neben der Helligkeit auch der Dieselgeruch in die Kabine. Ansonsten habe ich das Gefühl, dass ständig jemand das Leitwerk rein- und raus fährt und die Ruderblätter bewegt... Nur ich bin ja auf einem Schiff und nicht in einem Flugzeug. An die Vibration habe ich mich mittlerweile gewöhnt und empfinde sie als wohltuend. Allerdings kommt mir die Sprungfeder in der Matratze von unserer letzten Reise auf diesem Schiff sehr bekannt vor...

Irgendwann schlafe ich wegen Übermüdung ein. Da mich ggfls. ein Sonnenaufgang interessiert, steht der Wecker auf 04.00 Uhr. Da stelle ich jedoch fest, dass alles neblig ist und schlafe weiter. Kurz vor 06.00 Uhr gehe ich doch mal herum. Sieht alles aus, wie damals.



A little later I slept in as I was overtired. As I want interested to take pictures of the sunrise I set the alarm for 04.00 hrs. As it was foggy outside I just continued to sleep. Around 06.00 hrs I walked around. Looked like then.

Here you could book your next cruise. But actually I could not imagine to do a longer cruise again on OCEAN COUNTESS.



Hier kann seine nächste Kreuzfahrt buchen. Aber im Moment kann ich mir nicht vorstellen auf der OCEAN COUNTESS nochmals eine längere Kreuzfahrt zu machen.

Was war damals hier eigentlich? Im Moment nur die Box für die Fragebögen und extra Trinkgelder. Leider war es ein echtes Problem Geld zu wechseln. Angeblich hätten sie kaum Wechselgeld an Bord. Beim 4. Versuch bekam ich zumindest mal 5 GBP gewechselt.



How was it then? At this time there was only the box for the questionnairs and for the extra tippings. It was a serious problem to change some money. They told us that they have no change onboard. When I asked the forth time I got 5 GBP changed.



Um 06.05 Uhr sind die ersten bereits mit dem Koffer unterwegs: keine Gepäckaufbewahrung. D. h. jeder musste seine Sachen zum Frühstück mitschleppen.



At 06.05 hrs the first were already walking around with their baggage: and said before: no baggage storage. I. e. everyone had to carry their bags to the breakfast.

I remember the olive stuff as I saw them before.



Die Olivensachen hatte ich damals schon gesehen.

Wir kommen in Schottland an.



We arrived in Scottland.











Da wir nur zu zweit sind, können wir ziemlich schnell einen Tisch bekommen, den wir uns teilen. Zufällig ist es ein Tisch in unserem "alten" Sektor. Hier haben wir uns immer hingesetzt, um uns von unserem Lieblingskellner damals bedienen zu lassen.



As were only 2 we got quickly a table we need to share. By coincidence it was around our "old" service station. Here we looked for the table to get service from our favourite waiter then.

Orange juice made of syrup... reminded me more to MSC...



Orangensaft aus Sirup... erinnert alles an MSC...

Aber alles schön hergerichtet...



But very nicely decorated.





My breakfast... but our table mates said that the breakfast would be a big disappointment if this would be a hotel ashore... was this now something special on board? So I did not understand their remark.



Mein Frühstück... aber unsere Tischnachbarn meinten, dass das Frühstück eine große Enttäuschung sei, wenn es ein Hotel an Land wäre... und ist es jetzt was tolles an Bord? So richtig habe ich daher die Anmerkung nicht verstanden.





Ein Kollektiv-Toaster für alle...



One collective toaster for everybody...

A little later I found the cold cut offer. Everything was well allocated all over the restaurant.



Irgendwann haben wir auch die Wurstplatten gefunden. Alles war im gesamten Restaurant verteilt.



Jam from Germany. Later we learned that the German suppliers were the cheapest and so they get most of their food from Germany.



Konfitüre aus Deutschland. Später erfahren wir, dass ein deutscher Lieferant der günstigste ist und sie daher das meiste aus Deutschland beziehen.

Als wir rauskommen: links das Ende der Schlange zum Hauptrestaurant und rechts das Ende der Schlange zum SB-Restaurant und alle mit Gepäck.



When we left the restaurant we noticed two queues: to the left for the MDR and to the right for the self-service restaurant and all with their bags.
