Tag/Day 2 auf der/on VENTURA in Zeebrugge, Belgium

Unser Morgen begann mit Ausschlafen... Unseren Ausflug haben wir als Halbtagesausflug am Nachmittag gebucht.

So können wir in Ruhe frühstücken: 1 SB-Restaurant, 1 Restaurant mit Frühstücksbüffet und 1 Restaurant mit vollem Service.

Womit keiner gerechnet hat: die meisten bleiben an Bord und die meisten haben Lust auf vollen Service. So teilen wir uns mit zwei weiteren Briten einen Tisch und schon waren wir mitten in einer Bollywood-Komödie drin...

Der Obst-Salat wird leider aus den Reststücken gemacht... schmeckt man raus... und vor allem: man sieht es...



Our morning started with sleeping in... We booked our tour as half-day-tour in the afternoon.

So we could take the time to have breakfast: 1 self-service restaurant, 1 restaurant with breakfast buffet and 1 restaurant with full service.

Nobody expected: most stayed onboard and most preferred to have full service. So we had to share the table with two other Britons, and then we found ourselves back in a Bollywood-comedy...

The fruit salad was made of the remainders... you could taste it... and especially: you could see it...

The toast rack unless you did not forget to order rolls (extra soft)!

Ein Bircher Müsli, der mehr aus Honig und alles andere besteht. Ein Stück Schweiz finden wir darin nicht... viel zu süß... viel zu ungesund...



A Bircher Müesli which was made more of honey and anything else. We could not find a piece of Switzerland inside... too sweet... too unhealthy...

You got exactly one piece of each and not a portion...



Es gibt von allem nur 1 Stück und nicht eine Portion...

... und leider kein Angebot auf einem Tablett mit verschiedenen Gebäckstücken, sondern nur von der Karte...



... and unfortunately, there was no selection of various pastries on a tray, but only from the menu...

The service did not work well. The cups ran out and the new guests, who arrived, could not get any coffee. We sat at a table of six. At short notice, they had to remove two sets from our table to enable a service on a different table.

Waiter and Assistant Waiter did not communicate with each other. The waiter noted the order of the next table in a way that the assistant waiter did not understand and placed the plates at the wrong seats. I thought it might be more fun to play musical chairs and did not move the plates.



Der Service läuft sehr schlecht. Es gehen die Tassen aus und Gäste, die neu platziert werden, bekommen keinen Kaffee. Wir sitzen an einem 6-er Tisch. Kurzerhand werden zwei Gedecke bei uns umgesetzt, damit neue Gäste an Nachbartischen platziert werden können.

Haupt- und Hilfskellner können nicht untereinander kommunizieren. Der Hauptkellner schreibt die Bestellung des Nachbartisches so auf, dass der Hilfskellner nicht durchblickt und am Nachbartisch ein Teller-wechsel-Dich-Spiel stattfand. Es wäre aber sicherlich viel lustiger gewesen, wenn man die Teller hätte stehen lassen und die "Die Reise nach Jerusalem" um den Tisch herum gespielt hätte.

Eine 2. Tasse Kaffee zu bekommen, war nur möglich, weil wir irgendwann doch mal den Hauptkellner gefragt hatten, der am Nachbartisch versuchte wieder einen neuen Tisch herzurichten. Die Bitte mir eine 2. Tasse grünen Tee zu bringen überfordert ihn jedoch. Wobei der Tee an sich gut ist und ich mag den Teebeutel...



It was only possible to get a 2nd cup of coffee if you found your waiter, who was trying to set up a new table. But it was too much for him to get me a 2nd cup of green tea. Although the tea was good and I liked the tea bag...

You always got a different sort of tea, when you ordered the 2nd cup of tea. When he poured the water, which was already for more than 45 minutes on the service station, I told him, that the water should be already cold. He did not believe me. I put my finger into the teacup and finally, he believed me. But it took so long that Bruno preferred to prepare his 3rd cup of the coffee in the cabin, while I was still watching the Bollywood-comedy...



Man bekam witzigerweise für die 2. Tasse Tee immer eine andere Sorte. Als er mir das Wasser eingießt, das schon 45 Minuten auf der Service Station stand, meine ich, dass das Wasser schon kalt ist. Er glaubt mir nicht. Ich stecke darauf hin meinen Finger in meine Teetasse und endlich glaubt er mir. Allerdings hat es so lange gedauert, dass Bruno sich seine 3. Tasse Kaffee lieber in der Kabine selbst macht, während ich mir die Bollywood-Komödie weiterangucke...

Ich spreche den Hauptkellner an, der mir erklärt, dass man zwischen 07:30 Uhr und 08:30 Uhr mit gar keinem Gast da saß und auf einmal 2.000 Gäste auf einmal gekommen sind.



I asked the waiter for what happened. He explained from 07:30 hrs to 08:30 hrs, they were all by themselves without any guests but then 2,000 guests appeared at one time.

An extraordinary attraction was the Cirque Ventura.



Eine besondere Attraktion ist der Cirque Ventura.

Am Vortag war leider alles zu.



The day before, everything was closed.



Aber in Atrium fanden wir einen kleinen Stand, an dem mir das Programm vorgestellt wurde. Leider findet das Jonglier-Programm erst nachmittags war. Sie wollen mich partout dazu überreden, dass ich beim Bungee-Springen mitmachen soll. Aber von Deck 19 auf den Anleger zu springen ist doch nichts für mich...



But in the atrium, we found a little booth, where they presented their programme. Unfortunately, the juggle-programme should start in the afternoon. They wanted to convince me to participate in the bungee-jumping. But jumping off deck 19 to reach the pier, was not right for me...

When we arrived on deck 19, we could see, that bungee-jumping was offered on a trampoline...

Here they were stretching to become warm... but with the trapeze, there were still no activities...

Meanwhile, they showed, how to stalk...

And suddenly, there was life at the trapeze... all passengers were secured, even they only wanted to wait...

Meanwhile, they taught acrobatics...

The first exercises at the trapeze were double secured... Those who did not dare before now tried it...



Als wir oben auf Deck 19 ankommen, sehen wir, dass das Bungee-Springen auf einem Trampolin stattfindet...

Hier dehnt man sich wohl warm...... und noch ist alles leer beim Trapez...

Zwischenzeitlich wurde dort einem beigebracht, wie man auf Stelzen läuft...

... und auf einmal war Leben am Trapez... Alle Passagiere werden abgesichert, selbst wenn sie nur auf der Platform warten...

Unterdessen wird unten einem Akrobatik beigebracht...

Die ersten Flugübungen am Trapez finden unter doppelte Sicherung statt... Auch diejenigen, die anfangs noch Angst hatten, trauen sich hinterher...

Unsere Tour startet um 12:50 Uhr an der Busabfahrtsstelle, aber im Restaurant gibt es erst um 12:15 Uhr etwas zu essen. Wir erklären, dass wir nur 30 Minuten Zeit haben und es läuft alles wunderbar... Wieder ein Soft-Brötchen.



Our tour started at 12:50 hrs from the bus departure point, but the restaurant offered food after 12:15 hrs. We explained that we only had 30 minutes and it worked perfectly well... again a soft-roll.

They added croutons into the peas soup. The peas soup tasted very British like "Asterix in Britain": some like with mint sauce. The seafood pastry was very yummy...



Es werden Croutons in die Erbsensuppe zugegeben. Die Erbsensuppe schmeckt sehr britisch wie bei "Asterix bei den Briten": Irgendwie mit Pfefferminzsauce. Die Meeresfrüchte-Pastete war richtig lecker...

They offered a complimentary shuttle to Blankenberge, Belgium. To be safe, the ship's management wrote into the programme that the offer was limited. But when we came down to the pier, six buses were waiting for guests to Blankenberge.



Es wird ein kostenloser Shuttle nach Blankenberge angeboten. Sicherheitshalber schreibt die Schiffsleitung in das Tagesprogramm, dass das Angebot beschränkt sei. Als wir runterkommen, warten allerdings noch mindestens sechs Busse auf Gäste nach Blankenberge.





Unsere Tour findet mit zwei Bussen statt. Er kostete 28 GBP. Man fuhr bereits mit einem 2/3 vollen Bus los, so dass beide Busse gleichmäßig ausgelastet sind...



Our tour was allocated into two buses. It cost 28 GBP. They started already when they reached an occupation of 2/3, so both buses had about the same utilization.

And for compliance, they started with a round of Belgian chocolate...



Und zur Einstimmung gab es erst mal Belgische Pralinen...

Zunächst fahren wir nach Lissewege... ist ja ganz schnuckelig...



First, we went to Lissewege, Belgium... it was quite cute...









We headed to a former monastery's barn, which was also used nowadays as sculpture garden... A cook might be lost his whisk... and if the sculptures were not there around, the highlight of the spot would be the ceiling of the barn...



Weiter geht es zu einer Klosterscheune, die auch als Skulpturen-Garten genutzt wird... Da hat wohl ein Koch seinen Schneebesen verloren... und wären die Skulpturen nicht gewesen, wäre das Dach der Scheune der Höhepunkt gewesen.

Übrigens kenne ich die Dinger doch aus dem Theater von NCL...



That parts we knew already from the theater with NCL...

We were heading for Damme, Belgium...

... and the Smurfs on the wall made clear that we were in Belgium...

In the canal, there was a ship that was turning around. Did it have an azipod??? The wheel paddle was more for decoration purposes...

They also had a race with self-constructed rafts in the canal, but someone felt into the water...



Weiter geht es nach Damme...

... und die Schlümpfe an der Wand machen klar, dass wir in Belgien sind...

Auf dem Kanal sehen wir ein Schiff, das sich mittendrin dreht. Hat es einen Azipod??? Das Schaufelrad scheint nur dekorativen Charakter zu haben...

Im Kanal findet wohl auch eine Regatta mit selbstgebauten Flößen statt, wobei jemand ins Wasser gefallen ist...

... und so genießen wir die Wartezeit mit echten belgischen Waffeln...

Finally, we went to Bruges, Belgium to see Roose's Chocolate World...



Zum Schluss ging es nach Brügge in Roose's Chocolate World...

Dort gab es auch andere Belgische Leckereien, wie Bier...



The offered also other Belgian treats, like beer...

They made a demonstration, how to make chocolate...



Es wird demonstriert, wie man Pralinen herstellt... Wir kaufen einen 500 g-Ballotin für 8 EUR. Hoffentlich schmecken sie auch so wie Godiva, Neuhaus oder Leonidas... Man wollte uns nicht bedienen, weil man hoffte, dass wir eine fertige Mischung kaufen. Aber wir bestehen darauf, dass wir nur die Sorten bekommen, die uns interessieren. Damit lösen wir im Geschäft allerdings eine Kettenreaktion aus...



We bought a 500 g-Container (Ballotin) for 8 EUR. We hoped that they would taste as good as Godiva, Neuhaus or Leonidas... They did not want to serve us because they hoped that we would buy a prepared assortment. But we insisted that we only get the sorts, which we interested for. With that, we started a chain reaction in the store...

At the quay in Zeebrugge, we used the chance to make some exterior pictures of VENTURA.



Am Kai von Zeebrugge nutzen wir die Chance für ein paar Außenaufnahmen der VENTURA...

Beim Umziehen für den Captain's Empfang stellen wir fest, dass wir die Smoking Hosen zu Hause haben hängen lassen. Einen Verleih gibt es an Bord nicht. Wir sprechen mit dem Maître vom Saffron-Restaurant, weil wir niemand im Baytree treffen und erklären die Situation. Er schlägt uns vor, dass wir mit unseren Stoffhosen, Smoking-Hemden und Fliegen kommen. Die Smoking-Jacke sollen wir unter unserem Arm tragen und am Tisch anziehen. So fällt es kaum auf, als die anderen vom Empfang kommen...



When we changed the clothes for the Captain's Party, we found out, that we forgot to take the pants for the tuxedos with us. They had no rental onboard. We spoke with the Maître of Saffron-MDR because we could not find anyone in Baytree and explained the situation. He suggested to us that we should show up with our regular textile pants, tuxedo shirts, and bow-ties. We should hold the tuxedo-jackets under our arms and wear them after we arrived at the table. So it would not attract anybody else's attention when they would come from the reception...

The gala-dinner was not very "exciting" to us. Maybe it was, that we were already spoiled by the alternative dining venues of NCL...

The green was the goat cheese cream... the seafood chowder was a little getting used to... The half lobster was excellent unless it would not be so tiny... The desert was somehow "lovely"... Only the liquid chocolate did not flow out like we used to have it on other ships... and again truffles... the cheese was served on saucers because the little plates ran out...

We came to a very embarrassing situation: we were the only who had enveloped with tips with us while all other four who were long-term loyal guests of P&O forgot the envelopes or had no money with them...



Besonders "aufregend" fanden wir das Gala-Dinner nicht. Vermutlich sind wir schon durch das Niveau der Zuzahlrestaurants bei NCL verdorben...

Das grüne ist eine Ziegenkäsecreme... Die Meeresfrüchte-Chowder war auch wieder etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig... Der halbe Hummer war ganz nett, wenn er nicht so klein gewesen wäre... Der Nachtisch war ganz "nett". ... Nur die flüssige Schokolade aus dem Kuchen läuft nicht so aus, wie wir es von anderen Schiffen gewohnt sind... und schon wieder Trüffel... Der Käse wird auf Untertassen serviert, weil wohl die kleinen Teller ausgegangen sind...

Es entsteht eine peinliche Situation: Wir haben als einzige Umschläge für die Trinkgelder mitgeführt und die anderen vier am Tisch, die alles Stammkunden von P&O sind, haben die Umschläge vergessen und keiner hat Geld bei???

Am Nachbartisch wird für den Geburtstag gesungen: und auch beim Gala: ohne Fliegen mit Stehkragen...



At the next table, they were singing for a birthday: also when we had gala: no bow-ties with stand-up-collars.

Before we were heading to the theater, we looked around outside for the twilight.



Bevor es in das Theater geht, gucken wir uns draußen die Abenddämmerung an.

Im Theater erwartet uns ein spannendes Bühnenbild...



In the theater, they expected us with a thrilling stage set up...

... and the Cruise Director announced the show Chronicles...



... und der Kreuzfahrtdirektor kündigt die Show Chronicals an...

Da ich "Der König der Löwen" bzw. "Africa, Africa!" nicht mochte, habe ich Probleme mit der Musik..., aber die Performance und die Akrobatik fesseln mich und lassen mich nicht gehen... Der Besuch hat sich gelohnt, auch wenn die Musik nicht meinem Geschmack entsprach.

Wir gehen ins Bett zum Packen. Weil aber auf dem Schiff formeller Abend herrscht, gibt es keine Deadline für das Herausstellen des Gepäcks. Frühstück in die Kabine gibt es leider nicht. Und falls ich Hunger habe: bis 01:00 Uhr gibt es Service und Essen. Danach wird er eingestellt...

Since I did not like "The Lion King" or "Africa, Africa!", I had some trouble to follow the music... but the performance and the acrobatics were tightened me up and did not allow me to go... The visit was worth, although the music did not meet my taste.

We went to bed to pack. Since it was a formal night, there was no deadline to place the bags. Breakfast service in the cabin was suspended for the next day. In case I would be hungry: until 01:00 hrs they would provide service and foo. After that, they would suspend the service...
